When we set up Just Kampers way back in September 1989 I was a hard and fast air-cooled VW enthusiast. Fast-forward to 2013 and I am equally enthusiastic about the VW T5 and, love driving one as my daily. As I live and work out in the sticks I chose the 4-motion panel van. I couldn’t resist adding a few of my own ideas to make it unique using parts you’ll find in this catalogue.

We also have as 2009 T5 panel van that has been remapped by Pendle Performance and shod with a set of 20” Wheelwright rims. The reason we wanted a T5 and T5.5 or GP as they are officially known, is that we test our products before they make it into our catalogue, so needed one of each style.

Thinking about it, in many ways we have gone full circle and gone back to 1989, as we have recently set up our own workshop with a fully-trained mechanic and an in-house coach-trimming department. Service Regimes for Diesel Engines*

The LongLife Service Regime is so called because there are no set intervals. The intervals between services will vary depending on how you drive your vehicle and the conditions of use. There is however maximum time/distance parameters set and if the service light has not come on it will do so when either maximum mileage or time limit is met.

The maximum mileage/time parameters vary by model, for more detailed information on LongLife Service regimes and their suitability for your requirements please contact your local Van Centre.

If you would like a more traditional service regime the vehicle can be adapted by your authorised Volkswagen Van Centre or Van Service Centre to the Time/Distance regime. This can be done at the point of vehicle sale or when an inspection service is carried out. An oil change is required every 10,000 miles for Caddys and Transporters and 12,500 for Crafters on the Time/Distance regime.

LongLife Service Regime

We recommend this service if you are likely to drive more than 25 miles a day, and if you tend to drive in the following way:

• Regular long distance driving• Driving at a constant speed with minimum vehicle and engine loading, and minimal towing• Economical driving

This LongLife regime has been made possible due to the development of new Volkswagen engines with the latest technically advanced longlife oil. These engines use built-in sensors that continually monitor the oil quality, making it possible to enjoy reliable and confident motoring for up to a maximum of 18,000* miles or 24 months (whichever occurs first).

A brief history of the VW T5 2003 onwards

April 2003 to August 2009The T5 was the replacement for the T4 and is the fifth generation of Volkswagen Transporter. Available as a medium sized light commercial vehicle and people carrier, it featured petrol and diesel options as well as a choice of front wheel drive or 4 wheel drive (4-Motion).

In June 2009, VW announced that the one-millionth T5 had rolled off the production line in Hanover.

September 2009 onwardsThe T5 was revised with a facelift and new engine and transmission options, including a 7-speed (DSG) double clutch gearbox.

We recommend this service if you are likely to drive less than 10,000* miles in a year, and if you tend to drive in the following way:

• Mainly city centre driving, short journey with frequent cold starts• High engine loading activities, e.g. frequent hill climbs, driving with your vehicle fully loaded and towing• Uneconomical driving using high rpms with heavy acceleration and heavy braking

*Please note that all mileages are approximate as the service indicator system uses kilometres as the distance measurement.

What is LongLife oil?

LongLife oil is a high grade, fully synthetic oil with increased resistance to ageing and high temperatures

Can I use any high grade fully synthetic oil even just to top up?

No! All Model Year 2007 and later Caravelle and Transporters require LongLife III VW norm 50700 oil. Although this oil is designated 5w30, not all 5w30 oils are the same. The critical oil standard is VW 50700 which MUST be displayed on your bottle. Use of the incorrect specification of oil may cause damage to your engine.

It is the customer’s responsibility to check that our wheels and tyres comply with the conditions of their insurance company. You must make certain the C rated (commercial vehicle), RF (Reinforced) or Extra Load tyres you use have the correct load rating.

It is your responsibility to check for changes in the law and the terms and conditions of your insurance company to make sure neither affects fitting of wheels or tyres purchased from us.

You must inform your insurer of any changes made to the specification you have made to your vehicle as failure to do so could invalidate your insurance policy. You should be aware that there have been cases where inappropriate tyres have resulted in the failure of accident claims, this includes both load and speed ratings. You should never use a lower spec tyre than is or was fitted by the manufacturer, but any change in size or spec should be agreed with your insurer.

Fitment of tyres and wheels should always be undertaken by a qualified person. The wheel nuts must be re checked and re-tightened after driving the first 30 miles.

The new revised VW T5 GP was introduced by Volkswagen in September 2009. Whilst some refer to this model as the T5.5, the official VW name is T5 GP. For those who are wondering, GP stands for Große Produktaufwertung which basically translates to; Great product improvement. This is a term used by VW for vehicles which are facelifted. The good news is that it is very easy to make the same external changes to any VW T5 built between April 2003 and August 2009. We can supply all the parts you need as a kit with the options of front fog lights and a simple plug in wiring conversion needed for the headlights.

The new Just Kampers SWB Kombination Seat

The Kombination Seat has been designed and manufactured exclusively in the UK, for Just Kampers.

We set out to address the obvious failings of the aftermarket ‘rock and roll’ seats on the market, the main one being the way they are mounted to the vehicle. The Kombination seat is unique in that it offers full-width seating for three adults in the center of the vehicle leaving the rear section as a van. The Kombination also offers load space under the seat.

We have designed the seat to be mounted to a frame which in turn mounts to the VW factory fitted pallet mounting points – as these are crash tested and far superior to other methods of aftermarket seat fitment, such as bolting it through the floor. Both the Kombination seat and the frame have been pull-tested to comply with all the current legistlation by the Specialist Transport Advisory & Testing Utility Society. The Kombination seat is also removable should you wish to have the full carrying capacity of the van.

DynaDeck is vinyl flooring, which has a very similar appearance to carpet, but is hardwearing and water resistant, and can be removed to be cleaned. The 1/8 of an inch vinyl top layer has a ¼ inch noise and heat suppressing Dynaliner layer underneath it. This makes for a flooring which is not only easy to cut to shape – but it will drastically cut down road noise.

The JK delivery van was in need of some help in the performance department. So we invited Terry Harborne of TH Performance (a Pendle Performance Main

Agent) to work his magic.

We knew Pendle Performance were leaders in the field of vehicle tuning, especially with T4’s, T5’s and Caddy’s so, we knew we would be safe in their capable hands.

The process began with a visual inspection of the engine including checking the oil levels. Next, Terry carried out a full VAGCOM check of

the vehicle to ensure it was fault free. Next he downloaded a copy of the original software from the vehicles ECU

which is kept by Pendle Performance in case we wished to revert to the stock tune at a later date.

The next step was live data logging, a process where data is recorded whilst the vehicle is moving. The data and original software is then uploaded onto the Pendle Performance server where Martin Westwell (the owner of Pendle Performance) custom tunes the software, which

is then available for agents (in this case Terry) to download onto the ECU. The result is a 35%

increase in BHP and 31% increasae in torque.

another live datalog run is carried out and the data is analysed to ensure that the vehicle is perfectly tuned.

The JK T5 now has more power and increased MPG which means we

can deliver parts quicker whilst saving fuel.

Our own T5 breathable van cover has some great new features. The addition of a full length, under-vehicle securing strap and rain flaps on all the zips make the Deluxe van cover, in our opinion, the best value van cover on the market.

It has an all-round elasticated hem, with 3 under-vehicle adjustable securing straps – one lengthways and two widthways.
