1 INTRODUCTION

This document covers the calculations performed to design the riser, j-tube and caisson supports for the Angel platform above elevation +16500. The supports consisted of deadweight clamps, lateral guide type clamps and welded stub type supports. Where possible the clamp designs already produced by the subsea design contractor were utilised. In the cases where clamps had already been designed, the scope of this calculation consisted of sizing the connecting tubular stubs and checking that the stresses and punching shear of the supporting primary members was not exceeded.

The inplace model used to design the primary steel as described in Reference 4 was retained and modified to design supports. The majority of the model geometry and all loading were deleted with only the trusses at grids A and E remaining. Pinned supports were added at the location of the deleted supporting trusses in order to more accurately represent the stiffness of the system. Fixed supports were added at the location of the connection to the substructure

The supports were designed to withstand the loading imposed during the extreme storm and hydrotest conditions where applicable. The loading applied was supplied by the subsea design contractor (References 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11)

2 MODEL GEOMETRY

2.1 SACS Structural Coordinate System The datum used by the project for reference in documentation and on drawings was Easting 250.000, Northing 100.000 and Elevation 0.000. This represented a point located at the intersection of grids 1 and E with an elevation at LAT.

The SACS model was based on that datum.

The SACS X, Y, Z axis system pointed east, north and vertically up respectively.

2.2 Supports Support previously offered by the SACS Inplace model i.e. the primary trusses and jacket legs were replaced by pinned or fixed supports. Refer to following plots.

2.3 Member Group Plots The following plots illustrate the group labels assigned to the members in the models. These plots are followed by a table of the group labels matching them to section properties and steel grades. All members in the cellar deck and above were excluded from code checking.

It should be noted that the horizontal tubular member at El(+)18500 that supported the majority of the stubs was shown on the primary steel drawings as Ø762 x 20WT (member group V52). Where the deadweight supports for the risers were connected Ø822 x 30mm thick sleeves (member group SLV). were provided for punching shear. These were modelled in SACS as Ø822 x 30mm thick tubulars ignoring any contribution from the Ø762 tubulars underneath.

Common properties used for all groups were:

E = 2.05 x 105MPa

G = 0.8 x 105MPa

Density = 7850kg/m³

3 LOADING

3.1 Basic Load Cases for Grid A Model

3.1.1 Load Case 1: SACS Generated Structural Dead Loading.

For load case 1 the SACS Seastate module was used to generate the weight of the modelled steel members.

3.1.2 Load Cases 2-14: Support Stub Loading

Load cases 2 to 14 were used to apply the combined operating and environmental loading that occurred at each of the support stubs. The majority of the loading was supplied by the subsea design contractor. Refer to Appendix C for details of the loads supplied and the Autopipe axis system. In some cases the sign of the loads provided were changed to ensure that all loads were acting in the same direction concurrently in order to capture the worst case scenario

The loads for the produced water caisson were supplied by the piping stress group.

From the stress isometric for system 204, lateral loads of 95kN in combination with a vertical load of 55kN for the deadweight support for the produced water caisson were obtained.

The loads supplied by the subsea design contractor are summarised below.

3.2 Basic Load Cases for Grid E Model

3.2.1 Load Case 1: SACS Generated Structural Dead Loading.

For load case 1 the SACS Seastate module was used to generate the weight of the modelled steel members.

3.2.2 Load Cases 2X to 2Z: Support Stub Loading

Load cases 2X through 2Z were used to apply the maximum operational plus environmental loading as provided by the subsea design contractor to the NRA power J-tube support stub. Refer to Appendix C for details of the loads supplied and the Autopipe axis system.

The loads for the produced water caisson were supplied by the piping stress group in Reference 6.

Lateral loads of 68kN were applied at each support. Vertical friction loads of 20kN were applied at the guides with a vertical load of 83kN applied at the anchor at elevation (+)21000.

The loads supplied by the subsea design contractor are summarised below.

4.2 Member Justification

Member J267-SP1R exhibited a UC of 1.11. At the face of the supporting 762Ø member the UC dropped to 0.87 as shown in the SACS report below. The member was therefore deemed to be acceptable.
