Summer Term April to May 2017 Newsletter 07950 791952 [email protected] Welcome back, we hope everyone has had a lovely Easter Break. We have some very exciting activities planned with brand new topics over the next 6 weeks, where we will be exploring the book world. In the first week children will be learning all about books, the authors, different types of books, the library and stories. The remaining five weeks of the term we have selected individual children’s stories and they will explore the characters and the meaning to some of them. We would love any parents, grandparents or carers to come and visit our preschoolers and join us in story time. Books are a great way to encourage communication and language with your children and it would be lovely to hear what story books you have been reading with your children at home. Week 1 – The Book World (18 th -21 st April) We start the term with our children exploring the world of books and enhancing on their literacy. We will talk about the author Eric Carle who wrote The Hungry Caterpillar and 70 other stories, types of books and different characters of many different stories. They will have the opportunity of being librarians in our very own role play Library. They will learn about book marks and their purpose in books and will have the opportunity to create their own bookworm marks to take home. At snacktime the children will make their very own Hungry Caterpillar and will apply their maths brains in the Hungry Caterpillar Problem Solving. Week 2 – Tyson The Terrible (24 th -28 th April) Stegg, Serra, and Plod are playing soccer when they suddenly hear BOOM BOOM BOOM in the distance. This can only mean one thing, of course: Tyson the Terrible is coming with his scaly skin, horrible horns, and gigantic jaws, he's the biggest, scariest dinosaur around and these dinosaurs better run for cover before Tyson gets there. . . shouldn’t they? Our children will also be learning about the importance of keeping our teeth clean, just like Tyson and they will have their very own Dentist Role Play Area. Lets not forget the tooth fairy, the children will be making their very own tooth fairy boxes.

Welcome back, we hope everyone has had a lovely Easter Break.

Week 3 – Mabel’s Magical Garden (1 st -5 th May) Mabel loves playing with her friends Nigel and George in her beautiful garden… until the day she thinks they have been stealing her flowers! Furious, she builds a wall round her garden to keep them out. Even the sun can’t get in. The flowers start to die. Mabel grows lonely and sad. How can her friends show her that if she’d only take down the wall, they could enjoy a whole meadow of flowers together? A joyful story of friendship and the rewards of sharing. Our preschool will develop their understanding of making friendships and we will be supporting the children in writing friendship letters and post cards. They will be planting their own sunflowers and keeping them watered and giving them light.

Week 4 - Fairytales (8 th -12 th May) Goldilocks and the three bears, The Gingerbread man and Little Red Riding Hood. We have selected three popular fairytales for this week. The children will be developing their communication and language skills and the hidden meanings to these stories. We will be talking to the children in how to be safe when out and about and the importance of ‘Stranger Danger’ and that children must not leave adult carers when out on a day trip, shopping etc. Our preschoolers will have the opportunity in decorating their own gingerbread men and singing our Goldilocks song. They will also be practising their fine motor skills and threading Bear Pictures and will use the creative minds to make their own Gingerbread Man Story Maps.

Week 5 – Class Two at The Zoo (15 th -19 th May) On the day Class Two went to the zoo, they saw a koala kissing a kangaroo, they saw a giraffe having a laugh, but they didn't see the anaconda.....Watch the anaconda slide from the water and make a meal of Class Two. Will anyone notice before it's too late? Our Preschoolers will have the opportunity of having their faces painted (animals of course) from our very own Kelly. They will be using their pencil and Literacy skills to make their very own Snake Mobiles with their names. Our climbing frame will be turned into our very own Monkey Enclosure and making their very own Snake Hand Puppets.

Week 6 – Picnic on The Moon (22 nd -26 th May) The animated adventures of a young fairy called Holly learning how to practice magic and her helpful elf friend Ben. Like them, the fellow inhabitants of where they live are all very small. In this story they visit the moon, where they encounter friendly aliens and have a picnic. Nanny Plumb floods the sea of tranquility with a Jelly Flood. Our preschoolers will be using their creative imaginations and making their own friendly aliens and paper mache planets, in the water tray the children will be able to develop their sensory play in our own jelly flood.

General HousekeepingWe aim to take our preschoolers outside every day and the weather is starting to warm up. Please can you make sure that children have sun hats labelled with their names and water bottles. Sun cream lotion with the bottle also labelled with their names that we could keep at preschool for your child.Note: Please do not send your children in with open toed sandals or crocs during the summer months as this footwear is unsuitable in the preschool environment and garden area. If you have any questions, please do ask a member of staff, Thank you.

IMPORTANT - MedicationIf your child has prescribed medication, could we ask that you please ensure we have a permission letter signed and dated, with details of the dosage and times to be given. The medicine should be in a labelled bottle or box with childs name.

Also a reminder that it is important that Inhalers or Epipens are given to a member of staff to be kept in a safe place, whenever a child is attending Preschool, and NOT left in their bag in the corridor

Can you help us at PreschoolPlease help us to continue to provide the care and education your child deserves by supporting our high adult to child ratios at Lovat Hall Pre-School. By giving us just one hour of your time to help with the washing up, snack preparation, art activities or just playing with the children, you can free up a member of staff to HELP your child develop further. Please add your name to the white board which has been placed on the outside of the door or just ask a member of staff who will be glad to help.

Open Door PolicyWe are always happy for parents to stay with their children if they feel it would be beneficial, but if you need to discuss your child’s settling in with us at any time please feel free to approach any member of staff and we will do our best to help.

Our newest children are settling in brilliantly but the transition can be made so much easier for your child simply by making drop off a positive time for them. We all know what an anxious time it can be but try asking lots of questions “Can you do me a picture today?”“Do you think the bikes will be out?”“What do you like for snack?”Will all help to distract your child, as will statements such as “When Mummy picks you up we can….” So they have something positive to focus on.
