Stewardship of Prayer

Pastor’s MessageDear Parishioners,Not all women become mothers and not all men be-come priests. Our religion places great importance on Motherhood. Wives and husbands are called to find perfection in unitive and procreative love. Unitive love never separates relationships from sexuality as the world often does. Fruitfulness makes procreative love true to life. Children are a gift from God and are the

living image of God. We cooperate with the creator and a miracle of God’s love is multiplied. Life is holy, as holy as God. Women and men alike stand in awe of these truths.Mother’s Day takes on even greater meaning because of our religion. Mary’s highest title is “Mother of God.” The wise and nurturing mother steadfastly cares for her children. The sacrifices that mothers make are part of the self-giving roles women nobly accept. Our gratitude to God for our mothers is a debt of gratitude we owe to God. Let us be thank-ful to both God and our mothers. I stand in reverential awe of mother-hood. Happy Mother’s Day!Sincerely in Christ,

Saturday, June 3rd

Come pray for the sanctity of hu-man life and for an end to the per-secution of Christians worldwide.

Our rosary begins at 8:30 am following the 8:00 am mass. Please join us at the Ten Commandment Monument located on our parish grounds. We will meet on the fol-lowing Saturdays:

June 3rdJuly 1stAugust 5September 2nd

October 7thNovember 4thDecember 2nd

What is a 1st Class Relic?

There are three classes of relics:• A first-class relic is a part of the saint’s body (this is the part insert-ed in the altar).• A second-class relic is a piece of the saint’s clothing or something used by the saint.• A third-class relic is an object which has been touched to a first-class relic.

So if your rosary, medal, or holy card has touched a first-class relic, you now have custody of a third-class relic!

St. Simon Stock

Itinerant preacher. Pilgrim to the Holy Lands, but left when invading Muslims chased out Christians. Joined the Carmelite Order soon after its arrival in England. Simon lived and studied for several years in Rome, Italy and Mount Carm-el. Elected sixth general of the Carmelites in 1247 around age 82. He helped the Order spread through England, southern and western Europe. Founded houses in Cambridge, England in 1248, Ox-ford in 1253, Paris, France in 1260, and Bologna, Italy in 1260. Revised the Rule of the Order to make them mendicant friars instead of her-mits. Our Lady appeared to Simon bringing him the brown Scapular of Mount Carmel.

“Call of the Crucified Heart: A Program with Relics of Christ’s Passion”

Sunday, June 4th - 2:00 pm

St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Parish and School will host a presentation called, “Call of the Crucified Heart: A Program with Relics of Christ’s Passion on Sunday, June 4 at 2:00 PM. This event allows participants of all ages, in any level of spirituality to deepen and grow in their faith. A unique collection of relics has been brought together in a pro-gram of meditations, music and prayers commemorating the events of Passion of Our Lord, Jesus Christ.

For those of you that have attended this program in past years, this year’s version takes you to an even deeper level in your walk with Jesus during His Passion. We encourage you to join us for a special opportu-nity that is sure to touch your heart and connect you with the roots of your faith.

Extend your mercy towards others, so that there can be no one in need whom you meet without helping. For what hope is there for us if God should withdraw His Mercy from us?

that surrounds us. We’ve also learned about the difficulties that birds experience hatch-ing from their shells. Please feel free to call the school office if you would like to see our “flock”!

Full Day Preschool and Part-Time Options

Importance of Praying for Vocation

Prayers for vocations are for more men and women to dedicate themselves to serving our Lord and His flock in the religious life. Now more than ever, in these difficult times, “the world needs heroes,” as the New York Archdiocese’s Office of Vocations puts it. Our police and firemen are considered heroes when they save lives. Why not also think of our priests that way when they do so much to save souls?

As Christ once said, in sending out His disciples in ministry, “the harvest is great but the laborers are few” (Matt 9:37).

We offer these prayers for vocations to help send more “laborers” to bring our Lord an abundant crop of people whose lives have been transformed by the graces they receive from our faith! from CatholicPrayers.com website

Vocation Chalice

We need good, holy priests to bring us the Eucharist. Therefore the purpose of our program is to pray for priests and priestly vocations every day. The chalice is the

sacred cup that the priest uses at Mass in which the Precious Blood of Jesus is consecrated then given to the faithful. We hope through our efforts and God’s grace that this spiritual devotion will plant the seed of a priestly vocation in many young men.

Host for the week of April 30th is the: Gillies Family

Sign up, in the back of the church, to host the Vocation Chalice at your home or in your SVdP classroom!

Please visit www.Archden.Org/GiveToday or call 303.715.3111 to make your gift today. Our parish goal is $121,813.

Charitable Contributions from Saint Vincent’s Tithe of the Tithe

This special collection held on Mother’s Day in May supports the oper-ating expenses of the Archdiocese’s Respect Life Ministry, and the con-tinued training of clergy, parish staff, and other representatives on the vast array of life issues and healthcare directives in relation to Catholic Social Teaching.

In lieu of a second collection, St. Vincent de Paul Parish will donate, on behalf of parishioners, $1,500 to promote the sanctity of life from concep-tion to natural death. As a Stewardship parish we believe in sharing God’s many gifts with those less fortunate than ourselves. Thank you for your support to our parish.

Fifth Sunday of Easter

If you saw me driving around these days you’d probably worry about my mental health. That’s because I’m listening to Charles Dickens’ third and funniest novel, The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby. Parts of this book are so hilarious I’m laughing out loud, all alone in the car.

There are, of course, terrible, cruel adults oppressing innocent, orphaned children. But, oh, how luminous are the adults in the book who model Jesus’ words in today’s gospel: “Whoever believes in me will do the works that I do.”

In a world of greedy, greasy sociopaths stalking the streets of London, we meet the Cheeryble brothers, a pair of middle-aged, millionaire businessmen who inhabit every gift of the Holy Spirit, and spend their lives cheerfully (note their onomatopoeic surname) carrying out the corporal works of mercy.

It’s so healing to observe their kindness and thoughtfulness toward each other. These two brothers cherish each other. They abound in gratitude for their business acumen, which has brought them a fortune that they delight in sharing with everyone who comes their way.

Somehow they are still shocked and outraged that any child would ever be hurt in their beloved city. No hungry person is ever met with anything but the warmest friendship. Jobs are found, apartments are found, food and fireplaces and new clothes are found.

Dickens allows us to imagine a world where everyone behaves with outrageous, passionate love, doing the works that Jesus did. The two brothers prefigure, I suspect, his later immortal character Ebenezer Scrooge, who wakes up just in time to learn that humankind was supposed to be his business. That’s our business too, of course. So, how’s business?

In this Easter season, how are you doing the works that Jesus did?

Who better to look to for guidance on evangelization than the Apostles and disciples of the early Church? And what better place to read their stories than in the firsthand account of the Acts of the Apostles? In the ten-part series Evangelization and the Acts of the Apostles, Dr. Mary Healy combines insightful biblical

study with Church teaching and practical advice to show how modern Catholics can effectively impact their world for Jesus Christ. She explores topics such as the call of Jesus to evangelize, the power of the Sacraments, the role of charisms for building up the Body of Christ, techniques from St. Paul for reaching a secular culture, and more.Using the Lectio Divina approach of reading, reflecting, responding, and contemplating, the accompanying workbook presents classic artistry, penetrating questions, and personal reflection to take the teachings to a deeper level.
