WHY LEARN THE SPANISH ALPHABET?

•Helps with pronunciation and spelling

• Improves listening, speaking, reading, and writing (LSRW) skills

•Similar, but not the same as the English alphabet

Spanish speakers write their letters the same way that we do.

The only difference is the way they sound. I will show you the pronunciation of the

letters.

A=ah

B=baySometimes called bay grande

C=say

Ch=chayNo longer a separate letter,

but used in the song.

F=f-ay

LL=ay-yay

WHY ARE THERE EXTRA LETTERS?

The English alphabet has 26 letters whereas the Spanish alphabet has 30. The four extra letters are:

• CH• LL• Ñ• RR

**Some letters can be confusing because they sound different in the Spanish alphabet.
