THE NIGHT OF QADR SEPTEMBER 09 / RAMADHAN 1430 AH A PUBLICATION OF THE ISLAMIC EDUCATION CENTER WAHDAT The entire holy Quran was revealed to the holy Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) on the Night of Qadr during the month of Ramadhan. During Ramadhan, the holiest month of the year, when a Muslim recites one verse of the Holy Quran, Allah (SWT) will grant him or her the reward of reciting the entire Quran. The night of Qadr is better than a thousand months which is about 83 years or a complete life worship of a believer. The Night of Qadr is the night of Godly Given proportion and determination. All affairs of a person for the coming year is determined by Allah (SWT). In various reported narrations, the Night of Qadr has been noted to be the 1st, 17th, 19th, 21st, 23rd, 27th, or 29th night of the month of Ramadhan. The most reliable of narrations have reported the Night of Qadr to be during the last 10 days of Ramadhan, during the odd nights, such as the 19th, 21st, and 23rd Nights, where the accursed Satan is chained. These nights are full of security and peace where the deeds of believers are accepted and the rewards on that night better than 1,000 months of worship. The Night of Qadr is 24 hours in duration from one end of the globe to the other end, the duration of complete cycle of Earth around the Sun. This night is noted in the holy Quran as a blessed Night and repeats every year. The highly recommended deeds on this holy night is to perform good deeds such as reciting extra prayers, helping the needy, spending in the way of Allah (SWT), reciting the holy Quran, making peace with family members and friends, praying for the believers, reciting Salawat. Also, seek forgiveness for yourself, parents, and all believers while continuing to recite blessings of Allah (SWT), upon the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and his holy purified family . During the Night of Qadr we should honor, obey, and develop love and respect for Allah (SWT) and the Fourteen Masumeens. BR. Imam Ali(as) said in his last will before he left this world-

“Be opponents of the oppressor and defenders of the oppressed.”

Standing up against oppressors, standing up against injustice; This is an objective that every Prophet and Imam had, be it Musa against Pharaoh, Ibrahim against Nimrod, Imam Hussain (as) against Yazid. TThis is the goal our Imams struggled with because of the lack of fol-

lowers. This is the duty you are performing by coming out for a few minutes and protesting against oppression.

During the month of Ramadan, we all fast, pray and do dua However one important duty many of us forget is standing up against injustice and oppression. It is the duty of every Muslim, every person who believes in justice to unite and speak out. It is the least we can do. The Holy Prophet [s] said: "The one who sees a wrong action done should prohibit it by his deed, if he is capable, of course; and if he cannot do that, he should prohibit it by his tongue…” Wasa'il-ush-Shi'ah, vol. 16, p. 135 Whoever has the power to change an oppressor but does not change him, he is like an agent [of oppression]. How can the oppressor be frightened when he is safe among you and he is neither prohibited, nor changed, nor are his hands re-strained? Why should the oppressors then give up? How should they not become arrogant? It is enough that one of you say, 'I shall not oppress, but whoever wants to oppress, go ahead,' and he sees oppression but does not change it.- Prophet Isa (as)

What is the day of Quds? Imam Khomeini has said “The Quds Day is a universal day. It is not an exclusive day for Quds itself. It is a day for the op-pressed to rise and stand up against the arrogant.” “The Quds Day which is coincidental with the Night of Destiny (laylatal Qadr) must be revived among the Muslims and be the starting point of their awakening and awareness.”

The issue of Quds is not a private or personal issue. It is not the exclusive problem of one country nor a present-day problem of all Muslims. Rather, it is a phenomenon concerning the monotheists and faithful people of all ages-past, present and fu-ture.”

What is happening in Palestine? Many of you might have heard about the situation in Palestine on the news. Although most news sources are bias, you can see the devastation that has occurred there. The Palestine-Israel issue is not something new; Palestine has been occupied for over 60 years. Our brothers and sisters live under constant oppression. Israel has violated dozens of UN resolutions and continues to do so. Recently there has been a blockade on everything, food, cloths, medicine. Thousands of children have been killed, and many are still dying, if not from the bullets of Israeli military, from the lack of medicine and food. There are people who break their fasts only with bread and milk, if they can break their fasts at all. There are children who cannot go to school, who live in refugee camps, who watch their families if they have any, suffer every day; there are women who have to deliver babies at “check points” only to find the baby still born or even die themselves because they were stopped and not let through. Many there wonder if they will live to see tomorrow. This is the reality of Palestine.
