C E C O R N E R Your Christian Education Ministry is alive and thriving! The "CE CORNER" is
a new addition to The Covenanter to provide information and to highlight
Christian Education activities at Covenant. To start off the CE Corner, we
would like to share the recently developed purpose statement for Christian
Education at Covenant: The purpose of Christian Education at Covenant
Presbyterian Church is to nurture our discipleship, build our spirit of
community, and cultivate clarity of thought about our faith.
We welcome your input. So if you are a teacher, student, or participant in
any of Covenant's Christian Education ministry and want to include something in the CE Corner,
please send it to Karen Wetherington or any of the Ministry Team Co-Chairs: Christine Carpen-
ter, Brian Herndon, or Betsy Pless. Thank-you!

Welcome to our newest members who met with the Session on May 5 and were introduced to the congregation on May 12. Jennifer Frey and her daughter Margaret come to us as transfers from Milledge Avenue Baptist Church, with a Methodist background in NC. They are already friends with the Ballard-Myers and Colleen Cook. Jennifer’s husband Eric participated in Covenant’s youth program as a teenager in years past, and Jennifer’s sister Valerie & mother Willene have visited with us recently too. She is a night nurse at ARMC, and Margaret is a rising 9th grader at Cedar Shoals HS who loves horses and TaeKwonDo. Kerri Leslie comes to us as a transfer from Knox Presbyterian in Falls Church, VA, having also attended Leesburg United Methodist. She has 3 grown children (2 daughters, 1 son) also in VA. Kerri is already participating in the Upper Room CS Class and the Wednesday morning Bible Study, and she volunteers as a reader at Whispering Pines assisted living facility. We look forward to many good years of wor-ship & service ahead. Introduce yourselves to our new friends and put their contact info in your church directories. I've just received confirmation that the last box of Dairy Tubs that I shipped weighed more than 15 lbs, so we were awarded 250 additional points. Thanks to all of you who contribute clean, dry plastic dairy tubs, lids and foil seals to this worthy cause! Recently, more tortilla and tostada bags are being contributed. That's great! Just please remember that chip bags are not acceptable. The Athens Clarke County Public Utilities Department will hold 2 water-related events in June. On Tuesday, June 11, the Water Smart Landscapes Workshop: Drought and Trees will be held from 6-7:30 PM. On Tuesday, June 25, Vegetable Gardens: Water Wise Style! will be held from 5:30-7 PM. These events will be held at the Snipes Water Resources Center, 780 Barber St. Both events are free, but registration is required. Register at www.thinkatthesink.com

SUGGESTIONS FOR THE
OFFICE OF ELDER
The nominating committee is
charged to nominate
persons for the office of elder
to serve on the Session for a
three year program. Please
make known to the committee those you want to
be considered. You are encouraged to seek
permission from those persons whom you sug-
gest to the committee. In this way everyone is
more deeply involved in the election process.
Please find the nomination forms in your mail-
box. You may leave them in the drop box in the
gathering room.
Come along for some Covenant fun at a Mon-treat con-ference, July 2-6, entitled “Parenting with Soul.”
This is for families with chil-dren of any age, offering time together & alone. You’ll learn ways to nurture your own soul and care for the souls of your chil-dren and health of your family, finding your best rhythm as par-ents. See this website to regis-ter - http://www.montreat.org/current/2013-parenting-with-soul - and talk to Colleen Cook & Mary Barnett to plan shared housing. Printed registration forms are in the gathering room.
ELDER BREAKFAST TO FOCUS ON COVENANT GROWTH On Saturday, June 1, 2013, from 8:15-9:45am, all of Covenant’s Elders have an opportunity to share a covered dish breakfast of fellowship as well as renewal. “Growing relationships to grow Covenant” provides the foundation for discussion. As our local community of faith in 2016 approaches the jubilee of its found-ing, Covenant’s missions and identities merit affirmation. Covenant’s ministries targeting witness, worship, Christian education, nurturing youth, care of young children, older adult fellowship, public service outreach, congregational care and fellowship, grounds and buildings, etc., can be strengthened through growing inter-personal relationships. Each Elder is invited to bring ideas on how more successfully to accomplish such a goal. Please RSVP to Beecher.
