EXHORTATION & OPENING SENTENCESP Beloved in the Lord! Let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins unto God our Father, beseeching Him in

the name of our Lord Jesus to grant us forgiveness.

Our help is in the name of the Lord,C who made heaven and earth.

P I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord,C and You forgave the iniquity of my sin.

Kneel. If you are not able to kneel, please remain standing.

CONFESSION OF SINSP O almighty God, merciful Father,C I, a poor miserable sinner, confess unto You all my sins and iniquities with which I have ever offended You and

justly deserved Your temporal and eternal punishment. But I am heartily sorry for them and sincerely repent of them, and I pray You of Your boundless mercy and for the sake of the holy, innocent, bitter sufferings and death of Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to be gracious and merciful to me, a poor sinful being.

ABSOLUTIONP Upon this your confession, I, by virtue of my office as a called and ordained servant of the Word, announce the grace

of God unto all of you, and in the stead and by the command of my Lord Jesus Christ I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit.

In the voice that came from the bright cloud You wonderfully foreshowed our adoption by grace. Mercifully make us co-heirs with the King in His glory and bring us to the fullness of our inheritance in heaven; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

OLD TESTAMENT READING Exodus 3:1–14Now Moses was keeping the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian, and he led his flock to the west

side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. And the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. He looked, and behold, the bush was burning, yet it was not consumed. After six days Jesus took with him Peter and James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light. And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. And Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.” He was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” When the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces and were terrified. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and have no fear.” And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.

And as they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, “Tell no one the vision, until the Son of Man is raised from the dead.”
