Banat belongs to Serbia and Romania nowadays; however, some of its
villages can be found on Hungarian territory. The most important name
in the area is definitely the Recaș Winery and the Recaș D.O.C. in
Romania, although the Banat D.O.C. area around Buziaș is also interesting
in terms of its past and hopefully also its future. Crossing the border into
Serbia, the most interesting wine region is around Vršac. German settlers
from Alsace produced amazing Gewürztraminers and Rieslings here,
however the Banat Riesling was also an interesting variety.
