SysTrack Visualizer The Visibility IT Needs for Great End-User Experience

1

Visibility into the End User Environment from the CIO to Desktop Engineering to the Help Desk.

SysTrack Visualizer introduces a quality measurement system that is purpose-built for the desktop world, with systematic support for massive scale, mobility and actionability of data.

SysTrack puts CIOs, administrators and help desk technicians on the same page by providing a uniform system that promotes role-appropriate views on a common data mine. Additionally, SysTrack reports desktop quality in a metric that is directly relatable to business productivity and costing.

SysTrack Visualizer is a collection of modules designed to objectively answer enterprise IT questions from different audiences and perspectives.

Challenge

Until recently, the desktop has been a largely unmanaged part of the IT infrastructure. Problems that derive from narrow data sets, mobility obstacles, diversity of environment and sheer scale have resulted in a world where CIOs and IT administrators lack visibility.

Without an objective view into how well the endpoints in the computing environment are performing, critical information necessary to optimize that environment and drive costs down has been unavailable.

Compounding this problem has been the inability to link IT infrastructure quality to underlying system and application matters. Without this linkage, perceived quality problems are not actionable.

• The Risk module provides reports to assist in identifying areas of potential security risk including details of application configurations and inventory, hardware and system configurations, and installed software packages.

• The Virtual Infrastructure module provides information about how virtual hosts are performing. Key data points are provided to analyze host usage and understand which hosts are over/under utilized within the organization.

• The Persona module provides abstract models of applications and resources according to user types, or personas. These models are based on actual work patterns, behaviors and tools observed in the environment.

Together, the SysTrack Visualizer modules allow organizations to proactively manage the environment, anticipating user problems and eliminating them before they occur. This increases IT performance and lowers the costs of dealing with problems reactively.

Powerful Tools for Complex TasksManaging virtual environments is a complex task since it touches on many technologies and reaches from the user to the Cloud. Troubleshooting and optimization can be difficult because of information from disparate tools that frequently do not interoperate, or provide an integrated view.

The SysTrack management suite includes tools to perform tasks like automated power management, user auditing, performance monitoring, change management, event management, latency and end user experience management, application resource analysis, chargeback, virtualization assessment and planning, application pool design and many others. SysTrack provides all of these features in both web reports and interactive forms.

Objective Measurement and QuantificationSysTrack is the first tool to objectively measure and quantify the end user experience in a multi-disciplined fashion. It is the first tool to directly correlate the performance of the infrastructure with the productivity impact on the end user. The ability to compare various application delivery architectures from a common scoring system, promotes minimization of the cost of that application delivery through selection of optimal platforms and related technologies.

Measuring the End-User ExperienceSysTrack Visualizer is the only desktop management solution to objectively measure and report on the quality of the end user experience. Leveraging a data mine that assesses resource demands (e.g. CPU, memory, storage, and network), application and system reliability, latency and other criteria, SysTrack Visualizer measures the extent to which the user’s productivity is impacted.

Quantifiable ReportingUsing these real measurements, SysTrack Visualizer delivers a quality scoring system that objectively reports the user experience. By comparing scores against established SLAs, SysTrack Visualizer rates this user experience, thereby providing reporting and trending. Reports at user, desktop, group, line of business site and enterprise scale are available. Reports transcend the delivery mechanism, supporting both virtual and physical environments, and facilitating comparative analysis. For virtualized desktops, both persistent and non-persistent desktops are supported.

Mobile Device SupportToday’s IT environment is managed by a highly mobile workforce with a range of delivery devices. SysTrack Visualizer is similarly available on many device form factors and is fully touch-screen enabled.

PerformanceA key to optimizing performance is a clear understanding of user behavior, applications accessed, and introduction of workloads. Through detailed analysis, SysTrack tools promote multi-dimensional optimization of these workloads.

SysTrack Visualizer provides insight into workloads and how well the site delivers application performance that promotes user productivity. Since tools model resource usage, network and infrastructure conditions, events, faults, and other factors, correlation of how these forces work together to influence the end user’s experience is possible.

SysTrack tools promote end-to-end visibility. Supporting user management, application management, virtual infrastructure management and back-end server management from a common platform allows diagnosis of how these components interact and influence the end user experience.

Ease of IntegrationSysTrack is easily deployed and integrated into existing environments. It may be deployed using built-in technologies or aided through any third-party software deployment mechanism (such as Microsoft® SCCM, Altiris®, HP® Radia, IBM® Tivoli®, CA® etc.), or alternatively through login scripts and other mechanisms. It may be deployed in a running environment without reboots and while users are actively using targeted systems.

The product does not require the use of device drivers or kernel components, which makes attainment of change control approvals in large organizations easier. Products with kernel mode components receive much greater scrutiny and require much longer test/approval cycles due to their potential to blue screen a system in the event of a bug. The product does not

change the behavior of managed systems, making no changes to current applications, stored application information or application data streams on the network.

The product works with a wide variety of targeted clients and in large active directory environments with full integration for authentication and encryption, but without requiring schema changes.

SysTrack is compatible with all known hardware and has no application compatibility restrictions. It works on internal as well as cloud infrastructures. SysTrack supports VDI desktops, physical desktops, terminal servers and servers, all from a common architecture and dashboard.

Ease of UseSysTrack provides a variety of user interfaces oriented toward various audiences. While managers and executives may prefer to access SysTrack Visualizer ’s Enterprise module from a mobile computing platform in a touch screen form factor, administrators may prefer more complex interfaces that facilitate interactive troubleshooting. Support for multiple user interfaces and form factors make SysTrack functionality available to a broad community.

SysTrack Visualizer is intuitive and fully web-based. Designed for and end-user audience with varying degrees of IT sophistication, these tools are accessible to executives while providing deeper drill-in capabilities for technical audiences. No configuration is required.

SysTrack installations scale to approximately 20,000 systems per site, and sites may be linked through provided mechanisms into unified forests with more than a million systems. A patented distributed architecture not only facilitates this scalability, but works seamlessly with the demands of mobile computing users.

PRODUCT BRIEF

Breadth of Technical CoverageIn today’s complex desktop world, many factors contribute to overall performance and user experience. Compute resource, storage, networking and latency, application demands, user behavior, faults and events and the interdependencies among these factors all are significant and require management. SysTrack functionality encompasses the management of all of these aspects of application delivery and provides the broadest analysis available today.

Scalability for Enterprise-Class OrganizationsAggregation of data from many data sources, combined with meaningful sampling intervals and granularity, often challenges products in scaled-out environments. Large organizations frequently find that solutions that served a department well simply don’t scale to the enterprise. SysTrack’s unique, patented architecture delivers the required scale without sacrificing functionality.

Integration/Correlation of DataGreat user benefit is delivered through the correlation and integration of this data. Not only is correlation of different data types possible, but correlation of data sourced at different points in the environment is also achieved. The ability to view the user experience, application and system behaviour, virtualized platform factors, and effects from back-end servers across the environment provides insight into optimization and performance concerns while facilitating fast troubleshooting in complex environments.

Value & ROISysTrack is a low cost solution, requiring a minimal amount of infrastructure and little service work to install and operate. Very small sites (typically less than 1000 systems) need no additional software, while larger sites require only a single database instance for data storage. No additional components are required. SysTrack can be installed quickly and easily on a wide range of physical or virtual platforms.Quantification of realized ROI is easy with SysTrack. The wide range of management facilities from a single product offers many ways in which ROI can be found. Examples include:
