SPACE Sampling Perfection withApplication optimized Contrasts usingdifferent flip angle Evolution is thenew application allowing high-resolution3D images at incredible speeds.SPACE sequence is single slab 3D TSEsequence with slab selective, variableexcitation pulse.

Distinct Advantages of SPACE:1. Head-to-toe applications head,

    C-spine, whole spine, abdomen andorthopedic

    2. All three contrast: T1W, T2W andPDW and more

    3. High SNR due to the 3D acquisition4. Improved spatial resolution due to

isotropic acquisition5. Short acquisition times by combining

iPAT with high turbo factors and sliceturbo factors

    6. Low SAR due to lower flip angles7. Ability to reformat data in any plane

    due to high resolution isotropic

    acquisition

Clinical Role:1. Better diagnosis by providing more

    information:

    a) 3D spine acquisition to evaluatecomplex spinal deformities andcord adhesions if any to plantreatment options. If the cord istethered, it is important that thesurgeon releases it beforestraightening the bony deformity(Figure 1, AC).

    b) Excellent free breathing 3D MRCPwith navigator-based SPACE(Figure 3).

    c) 3D pelvic imaging for detailedoncologic staging e.g. ProstateCancer and for endometriosis(Figure 4).

    d) High resolution PD weighted FatSat images of the knee.

    2. Better workflow and speed:

    e) T2 W 3D imaging done with

SPACE. Speed image acquisitionwith volume brain acquisitionparticularly in pediatric cases.Multi-planar reconstructions donelater for reviewing details of thecase (Figure 2).

    f) Combining iPAT, partial fourierand high turbo factors make fasterisotropic 3D scans possible.
