East-West Trade Lane Demonstrator: Scope • Aim: Optimise import/export operations between the Far East and inland destinations in Spain via the
Ports of Valencia, Barcelona and Algeciras
• Main focus:• Land transport planning optimisation:* Optimise the inland transport planning* Match compatible import/export operations (triangulations)* Minimise empty container movements
• Ship route planning optimisation:* Demonstrate the benefits of real-time smart steaming strategies* Evaluate the impact that unplanned events occurring during port
calls have on a ship* Re-calculate and adopt in real-time the vessel’s speed and a new
strategy according to the evaluated impact
East-West Trade Lane Demonstrator: Benefits
• Demonstrate the impact of slow steaming in terms of reducing emissions and costs
• Increase modal shift to rail by using synchro modal optimization
• Optimize last mile truck operations and reduce logistics operators’ costs
• Allow designing of more efficient Oceanic lines

Regional Demonstrator: Scope • Aim: Optimise regional logistics movements of the K+N/DELL EMC Irish supply chain from Cork (Ireland)
into mainland Europe
• Main focus:• Customer Cumulative Freight Transport Weight & Volume
Optimisation* Increase the overall efficiency of customer supply chain activities* Optimise the volumes involved in individual shipments
• Modal shift from Ro-Ro land-bridge to Lo-Lo direct to/from mainland Europe & Emissions Benchmarking* Explore opportunities to increase container traffic through the
regional Port of Cork on Ireland’s South coast* Calculate pollutant emissions
Regional Demonstrator: Benefits • Provide a tool to calculate the emissions consequences of shipping a
particular cargo unit via a particular route at a particular time using a particular mode
• Identify specific trade lines to and from Ireland that allows switching from road-based freight to shipping and rail
• Customer cumulative freight transport weight and volume optimisation
• Modal shift from Ro-Ro land bridge to Lo-Lo direct to/from mainland Europe
Pan European demonstrator: Scope • Aim: Test the SYNCHRO-NET platform to optimise freight flow management through the Piraeus hub
• Main focus:• Transport options and quotations assessment:* Identify alternative routes that fulfill client transport orders’
requirements during the preparation of quotation* Evaluate most efficient transport combination for consignments* Reduce distance travelled, time elapsed, CO2 emissions and costs
• Synchro-modal planning and scheduling:* Optimise the inland transport planning* Estimate pollutant emissions* Support Piraeus Rail Control Tower (RTC) to match rail and
maritime service
