PURPOSE:This class is designed to offer activities and assessments to strengthen student performance in the principles of algebra, introductory trigonometry, problem solving, mathematical thinking, and basic algebraic concepts. Topics include: operations on polynomials, equations, special products, factoring, algebraic fractions, exponents, radicals, quadratic equations, right angle trigonometry, and graphic linear equations.

CLASSROOM RULES:1. RESPECT yourself, your peers, and your teachers2. BEHAVE LIKE A YOUNG ADULT, not like a child3. BE ON TIME- if you are late, you SHOULD have a pass 4. BE PREPARED- bring your materials to class every day!5. DON’T TALK while I am teaching or while others are talking6. EAT IN THE CAFETERIA- not in my room!7. REQUIRED MATERIALS:1. Pen or pencil (everyday)2. 3 or 5- subject notebook, for Math only (or binder with loose leaf paper)3. TI- 84 graphing calculator4. Math textbook (unless I say otherwise)

CLASS GRADES:Averages are determined by the following:

Homework and participation- 10% Cumulative Reviews- 10% Quizzes- 20% Benchmark Tests- 10% (1 per quarter)

Page 2: Syllubus

Post Assessments- 50%

Homework is assigned almost daily. It is either checked at the beginning of class the next day. My policy is simple, “Do it and receive 2 points, don’t do it and receive a 0.” No homework will be accepted late without an excuse. If you are absent, you have 2 class days to make up the work (with an excuse). 1 point is given if you do half of the assignment.

Tests, quizzes and cumulative review dates are posted at the beginning of the chapter. Review for each exam will be done in class the day before the exam. If you are absent for the review, you still have to take the test the next day. If you are absent the day of the test, you will take it the next day you are in class. There are no exceptions to this rule!

Parents you may check your child’s progress at http://powerschool.albany.k12.ny.us/public

HVCC Part of the class:If you choose to take this class for HVCC credit, your HVCC grade will be calculated the following way:37.5% Quarter 137.5% Quarter 225% Final

Only test scores count for your HVCC grade. Your HVCC Final will be given in January. This final is also the midterm of the Albany High Intermediate Algebra class.

The cost of this class is $50/ credit. If you earn above a 70%, you will earn 3 HVCC credits. The cost to take this course is $150. If you receive a free or reduced lunch, you may apply for a fee waiver to cover the cost of the HVCC class.
