Unit I: Meaning Definition; Nature & Scope of Cartography. Globe & Maps, Essentials ofMaps; History of Map-Making; Types & Uses of Maps.

Unit II:Scale; Conversion of Scale: Statement to R. F. & R. F. to Statement; Simple, Diagonal, Comparative & Vernier Scale; Reduction & Enlargement of Maps.

Unit III:Relief: Hachures, Contours, Form Lines, Spot Height, Bench Mark, Trig Point, Layer Tints ; Representation of Landforms by Contours: Types of Slope, Conical Hill, Plateau, V Shaped Valley, U Shaped Valley, Water Fall, Ridge; Profile (Serial, Superimposed, Composite & Projected) ; Block Diagrams; Interpretation of Topographical Sheets.

Unit IV: Organize Field Visit to collect field data. Field work report should be prepared based on collected data and it should be submitted in practical examination. Main objective of the field work is to provide the students with the understanding of ground reality of a chosen site i.e. village/town/tourist site by observation. One aspect such as geomorphic forms and processes, land use, irrigation, economic activities, village morphology, population characteristics etc. should be selected for field work.
