Business Law Honors Course Number: BB30

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Principles of Business and Finance
Description:
This course is designed to acquaint students with the basic legal principles common to all
aspects of business and personal law. Business topics include contract law, business
ownership including intellectual property, financial law, and national and international
laws. Personal topics include marriage and divorce law, purchasing appropriate
insurance, renting and owning real estate, employment law, and consumer protection
laws. Social studies and English language arts are reinforced.
For the 2015 – 16 school term, this course will be offered to select students who will
work on an independent schedule in close cooperation with the instructor. We will rely
heavily on Edmodo and other electronic resources for communication, assessment, and
transmittal of assignments.
This honors course extends the Essential Standards to a higher, more challenging level.
Students will complete extensive written assignments and unit projects, expanding
knowledge beyond recognition and recall, emphasizing critical analysis and application..

• Structure of the court system
• Elements and characteristics of a contract
• Business Ownership
• Personal and Business Law
Essential Questions for Honors Credit
Student will demonstrate understanding and proficiency as he/she progresses through the
curriculum and will use for discussion and application to real-life scenarios. Expansion of
the following standards will be required during this course:
• Goal 1.02.1 – Evaluate the organization, purpose and caseloads of the local court
system.
• Goal 2.01.1 – Create a model that demonstrates the connectedness of the six
elements of a contract.
• Goal 4.02.1 – Conduct research on insuring a home after developing a criteria and
obtaining quotes from at least three companies.
Expectations and Performance:
In addition to mastering the course objectives listed in the Business Law course blueprint,
the honors Business Law student is expected to maintain and submit an honors portfolio,
to include unit projects, objective summaries, and case studies that demonstrates the
appropriate completion of the Essential Questions for Honors Credit..
Requirements:
All students are required to have the following each day for class:
� Sharpened pencil or pen.
� 1 ½” to 2" 3- ring binder with notebook paper and dividers (4).
� Flash drive for saving student projects (may use one that is also being used for
another class).
� Portfolio
Class Rules:
The student is expected to follow all school rules and any rules set for the computer
laboratory for which they are assigned. Attendance will be taken daily.
Grading Procedure/Policy:
Students will receive regular progress reports in accordance to school calendar.
Grading Scale:
100 – 90 = A
89 – 80 = B
79 – 70 = C
69 – 60 = D
59 or less Failure
Grading Weights:
Assessments and Summative Evaluations 70%
Homework/Classwork 20%
