SWITCH TO THE FUTURE OF FIELDBUS
THE INTRINSICALLy SAFE HIgH-POWER TRUNk
DART Fieldbus, the latest addition to FieldConnex provides what many users have been asking for: The intrinsically safe High-Power Trunk concept. DART Fieldbus overcomes the limitations of FISCO or Entity fieldbus systems and enables:
n Live working on trunk and devices allowed without hot work permitn Redundancy of power supplies with load sharingn Longer cable runs and more devicesn Reduced requirements for cabinet space
Dynamic Arc Recognition and Termination (DART) is recognized as a major innovation. However for planners and plant operators only few things change as DART is easy to understand, easy to engineer:
n A completely intrinsically safe installationn Reduced requirements for trainingn Simple validation without calculations
And most importantly: Spur connections for all intrinsically safe field instrumentation in gas group IIC.
DART protects the trunk. Compared to just limiting the power, DART detects and quenches a spark as it is occurring.
Complex technology, high availability, limited power – the challenges of instrumentation and control technology in the process industry can be overwhelming. But reliable solutions are available for any specific application with fieldbus systems such as FOUNDATION Fieldbus H1 and PROFIBUS PA. They are established worldwide particularly for the easy application of intrinsic safety. With DART Fieldbus, Pepperl+Fuchs provides a trend-setting technology that combines intrinsic safety with high power in one system. Fieldbus installation is as safe, available and powerful as never before – with full intrinsic safety.
THE WORkINg PRINCIPLE
This means that more power can be transmitted. And in case of a fault or disconnect, the spark – electrical energy transformed into heat – is limited to intrinsically safe levels.
As practically all sparks are of temporary nature, such as a disconnect operation of a Segment Protector the DART power supply will attempt to switch back on after only a few milliseconds.
During this very short interruption the Segment Protectors power the field instrumentation – the availability of communication and power supply is ensured.
