Background Information

The Innovation Precinct will bring together design, manufacturing and digital innovation to create a hub of interdisciplinary collaboration that will includestudents, staff, mentors, community and industry. It will focus on design-led thinking and leverage off Swinburne’s state-of-the-art facilities.

The Swinburne Innovation Precinct extends across the whole university, but our front door and headquarters will be located in the former Fire Station on William Street, adjacent to our Hawthorn campus. This is currently being redeveloped and will be completed by mid-2017. The station dates from 1910, just two years after Swinburne wasfirstestablishedasatechnicalinstitute. Innovation EnterpriseTo be world class we must perform like a world-class university. That means being agile and responsive to the evolving demands of a fast-changing world.We want to continue innovating so that we are in the best possible position to deliver Future Ready Learners and Research with Impact. Purpose of the postThe Senior Development Manager is responsible for growing institutional relationships with philanthropicpartners,andforsignificantly growing philanthropic investment into Swinburne University of Technology (SUT).

Reporting to the Director, Development, the role requires the ability to work across the breadth of the university’s activity,conceptualisingsignificantnewprojectsthatdeliver to the university’s 2025 strategic vision and simultaneously meeting the needs of sophisticated, established philanthropic partners.

As Swinburne’s innovative research agenda has matured, the focus is now on growth in philanthropy. The Advancement team is focused on growth, innovation excellenceandthedeliveryofmutuallybeneficial,respectful and enduring relationships with our donors.

Strategy and Fundraising

• In collaboration with senior academic colleagues and SUTresearchoffice,conceptualisemajorprogramstopitch to philanthropic bodies.

• In collaboration with Director Development, develop and execute strategies to increase philanthropic investments from philanthropic partners including individual donors, private foundations and commercial entities.

• Attend a range of external functions and networking events, engage and grow enduring, respectful, trusting relationships with potential major donors and philanthropic partners.

• Postgraduatequalificationsandextensivesubsequentrelevant fundraising, business development experience. or; extensive experience and specialist expertise or broad knowledge in fundraising; business development or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
