Owning a pool can sometimes be a stressful experience and this holds especially true when a storm hits.

Critical pool health is affected by storms, but if you take some specific steps, you will be able to avoid the majority of storm damage by securing your pool.

BEFORE A STORM:

Water Level- Check the water levels in your pool. Anything over normal

levels need to be safely drained off. However, you only want to drain the excess because the water in the pool acts as a protective defense against objects and debris blown in storms that could otherwise damage the finish of the pool.

Equipment-

Circuit breakers and power switches need to be turned off that power the pool pump, motor, lights, and chlorinator, as well as all other pool equipment.

Cleaning supplies, toys, pool floats, chemicals, and equipment should be removed from the pool area

and stored indoors to protect against flooding.

Be sure to put them up high in a dry area until after the storm passes.

Furniture- Strong winds can carry away or throw around pool and patio

furniture, so if you know that there are strong winds headed your way, you will want to move the furniture indoors to prevent damage to the house, pool, or other property.

AFTER THE STORM:

Equipment- Check to ensure that all of your pool equipment and

electronics are dry, undamaged, and properly working. Electronics that gets wet in storms needs to be inspected by a

professional pool technician to determine if there are any replacements or repairs that need to be made.

Clean up-

All large debris needs to be removed from the pool that entered during the storm. You cannot rely on the pool pump to do this because the big objects will clog it.

It is recommended that you use a rake, net or skimmer to remove the large debris.

Chemicals- After you have checked all equipment and removed all

large debris, it is time to add shock to the water with chlorine in order to counteract contaminants and rainfall.

Professionals- For the best results and

pool health after a storm, you should call a professional pool services company.

They will visit your pool to ensure that there is no hidden damage, that all equipment is safe to use, and the pool is secure and safe to enjoy swimming in again.
