 Thus I have heard:  At one time the Buddha was at the Jewel Brilliance Pond inthe Immaculate Garden of the kingdom of Magadha.Surrounding im were hundreds of thousandsof Mah!sattvas" great voice#hearers" gods" dragons" $ak%as" gandharvas" asuras" garu&as" ki'naras" mahoragas" human" nonhumans" and others. Atthat time" in the assem(l$ was a great Brahmin namedImmaculate )ight" who was well educated and intelligent.Peo*le delighted in seeing him. aving taken refuge inthe Three Jewels" he *ersistentl$ did the ten good karmas.Benevolent" wealth$" and wise" he intended that other

*eo*le ac+uire (ene,ts" great fortune" and *ros*erit$.  Immaculate )ight rose from his seat" came to the Buddha"circled im seven times" and o-ered the orld#onored/ne incense and 0owers. e also covered the Buddha with*riceless wonderful garments" necklaces" and tiaras of gems.After (owing down at the Buddha1s feet" he ste**ed (ack toone side and said" 2I *ra$ that the orld#onored /ne andthe huge assem(l$ will come to m$ house tomorrow morningto acce*t m$ o-erings.3  The Buddha gave him *ermission in silence. 4nowing thatthe Buddha had acce*ted his invitation" the Brahmin hurriedhome. In the evening" he ordered e5tensive *re*aration offood and drink of one hundred 0avors for the (an+uet. aterwas s*rinkled" the halls were swe*t clean" and cano*ies and(anners were set u*.  In the ne5t morning" carr$ing incense" 0owers" andmusical instruments" together with his retinue" the Brahmincame to the Buddha. e said" 2The time has come" and I*ra$ that the orld#onored /ne will grace m$ house.3

Buddha stood u*" is (od$ emitted all kinds of radiance withintermingled wonderful colors" illuminating and ,lling thes*ace in the ten directions. Being thus alerted" all set o- onthe road. 6es*ectfull$ escorting the Buddha" the Brahmincarried wonderful incense and 0owers with a reverent heart.e led the wa$" along with his retinue" the Brahma#kings"the god#king 7akra" the four god#kings" and the eight classesof 8harma *rotectors" such as gods and dragons.  The orld#onored /ne" having traveled not too far onthe road" came to a garden called A(undant ealth. In that

garden were the ruins of an ancient *agoda" dila*idated andcolla*sed. ith the court$ard covered ($ thistles and thedoors sealed ($ cree*ing weeds" the ru((le resem(led amound of dirt. The Buddha went straight to the *agoda.9orthwith" the *agoda issued vast" (right light" illuminatingand glowing. A voice from the hea* of earth *raised" 2er$good; er$ good; 7!k$amuni" <our action toda$ is e5cellent;And $ou" Brahmin" will receive great (ene,ts toda$;3  The orld#onored /ne *aid res*ects to the ruined

*agoda ($ circling it clockwise three times. e took o- isu**er garment" *laced it over the *agoda" and we*t tearswith (lood. e then smiled. Meanwhile" all Buddhas =inworlds> in the ten directions" looking on together" also shedtears" each emitting light to illuminate this *agoda. Themultitude was so astonished as to lose their color" and the$all wanted to resolve their (ewilderment.  a?ra*!@i and other Bodhisattvas also shed tears. Twirlinghis va?ra in glowing 0ames" he came to the Buddha. easked" 2orld#onored /ne" through what causes andconditions does this radiance manifest h$ didthe Tath!gata1s e$es shed these tears And wh$ do Buddhas=in worlds> in the ten directions emit vast aus*icious light I*ra$ that the Tath!gata will resolve m$ (ewilderment.3  The orld#onored /ne re*lied to a?ra*!@i" 2This greattreasure *agoda of accumulated whole#(od$ relics of

 Tath!gatas contains innumera(le kois of the heart dh!ra@Cs"the secret seal of the essentials of the 8harma of all

 Tath!gatas. a?ra*!@i" (ecause of the essentials of the

8harma contained in it" the *agoda has (ecome tieredseamlessl$ like sesame seeds. The (odies of DEE"EEE koi

 Tath!gatas are also like sesame seeds. Fontained in the*agoda is the accumulation of the whole#(od$ relics ofDEE"EEE koi Tath!gatas and even the store of H"EEE8harmas. Also contained in it are (illion koi Tath!gata#

crowns. Because of these wondrous things" the site of this*agoda has su*er(" awesome virtue and serves as as*iritual testament. It can ,ll the entire world with aus*iciousevents.3  hen the multitude heard the Buddha1s words" the$shunned dust and ,lth =their aictions> and ac+uired the*ure dharma#e$e. Because the ca*acities of the multitudewere so varied" each received a di-erent (ene,t. Some(ecame Prat$eka(uddhasK some achieved voice#hearerfruits" (ecoming Srot!*annas" SakLd!g!mins" An!g!mins" or

Arhats. /n the Bodhisattva a$" some achieved the levelof avinivartanC$a or ac+uired sarva?aK some attained the9irst Ground" Second Ground" or even the Tenth GroundK andsome ful,lled the si5 *!ramit!s. The Brahmin shunned dustand ,lth =his aictions>" and ac+uired the ,vetranscendental *owers.  itnessing these un*recedented occurrences" a?ra*!@ie5claimed" 2orld#onored /ne" how wonderful and howe5traordinar$; If *eo*le ac+uire such e5cellent merit ($

merel$ hearing a(out this matter" how much more merit willthe$ ac+uire if the$ hear the *rofound truth and elicit theirfaith with an earnest mind3  The Buddha re*lied" 2earken; a?ra*!@i. In future times"if" among male (elievers" female (elievers" and m$ fourgrou*s of disci*les" there are those who are ins*ired to co*$this sNtra" the$ in e-ect co*$ all the sNtras *ronounced ($ (illion koi Tath!gatas. Their merit will sur*ass the rootsof goodness the$ have (een *lanting for a long time in the*resence of (illion koi Tath!gatas. All Tath!gatas willsu**ort" *rotect" and remem(er them in the same wa$ asthe$ cherish their own e$es or as loving mothers care fortheir $oung children. wonderful ornaments to this sNtra" he in e-ect makes anentire o-ering" (efore (illion koi Tath!gatas =in worlds> inthe ten directions" of divine incense" 0owers" garments" andornaments made of the seven treasures" all *iled high likeMount Sumeru. Planting one1s roots of goodness can (eaccom*lished in the same wa$.3  aving heard these words" the eight classes of 8harma*rotectors" such as gods and dragons" as well as humans"nonhumans" and others" ,lled with wonder" said to oneanother" 2ow marvelous is the awesome virtue of this old

*ile of earth; Its miraculous manifestation must have (eencaused ($ the s*iritual *ower of the Tath!gata.3  a?ra*!@i ne5t asked the Buddha" 2orld#onored /ne"through what causes and conditions does this *agoda madeof the seven treasures now manifest as a *ile of dirt3  The Buddha re*lied to a?ra*!@i" 2This is not a *ile of dirt"(ut a wonderful" great treasure *agoda. It is hidden (ecauseof the inferiorit$ of sentient (eings1 karmic fruits. Althoughthe *agoda is hidden" the (odies of the Tath!gatas are

indestructi(le. ow could the va?ra#store (odies of the Tath!gatas (e destro$ed After I have a(andoned m$ (od$"the ending of the 8harma will (e unrelenting in future times.Sentient (eings that act against the 8harma are (ound tofall into hell (ecause the$ neither (elieve in the Three Jewelsnor *lant an$ roots of goodness. 9or this reason" the Buddha8harma should (e hidden. But this *agoda will still (e solidand will not (e demolished (ecause it is su**orted ($ thes*iritual *ower of all Tath!gatas. owever" ignorant (eings"covered and o(structed ($ their delusion" not knowing howto unearth and use the treasure" sim*l$ leave it (uried. 9orthis reason" I now shed tears" and other Tath!gatas shedtears as well.3  The Buddha then told a?ra*!@i" 2If a *erson co*ies thissNtra and enshrines the co*$ in a *agoda" this *agoda willthen (ecome the va?ra#store stN*a of all Tath!gatas and thestN*a su**orted ($ the heart secret of the dh!ra@C of all

 Tath!gatas. It will (ecome the stN*a of (illion koi Tath!gatas and the Buddha#crown and Buddha#e$e stN*a of

all Tath!gatas" and it will (e *rotected ($ their s*iritual*ower. If $ou enshrine this sNtra inside a Buddha statue in a

things: cano*ies" nets" columns" dew#catching wheels" ,neeaves" (ells" foundations" or ste*s. hether $ou use earth"wood" stones" or (ricks" the$ will turn into the seventreasures (ecause of the awesome *ower of this sNtra.Moreover" all Tath!gatas will increase the *ower of thissNtra. 4ee*ing a sincere *romise" the$ su**ort it incessantl$.  2If a sentient (eing makes o(eisance and gives ano-ering of onl$ a little incense and one 0ower to this*agoda" his grave sins" which would entail E koi kal*as oflife and death" will all (e e5*unged at once. e will (e free

from catastro*hes during his life and" after death" (e re(ornin a Buddha famil$. ven for a *erson who should fallinto AvCci ell" if he onl$ makes one o(eisance to the *agodaor circles it clockwise once" the door to hell will (e (lockedand the (odhi road will (e o*ened.  29urthermore" the *lace of the *agoda or of its image will(e *rotected ($ the s*iritual *ower of all Tath!gatas. The*lace will not (e damaged ($ hurricanes and lightning (olts.It will (e neither distur(ed ($ venomous snakes" vi*ers"

scor*ions" or other *oisonous insects" nor harmed ($ lions"ram*aging ele*hants" tigers" wolves" ?ackals" or otheranimals. It will (e free from the terrorof $ak%as" rak%asas" *Ntanas" *iQ!cas" s*irits" monsters" ande*ile*s$. It will not (e trou(led ($ diseases" such as chills"fevers" skin ulcers" car(uncles" sca(ies" or *soriasis. /ne canavert all disasters ($ seeing the *agoda (rie0$. At the *laceof the *agoda" horses" si5 kinds of livestock" and *eo*le"including $oung (o$s and girls" will not (e *lagued ($e*idemics. The$ will not die unnatural" accidental deaths"nor (e harmed ($ knives" clu(s" 0ood" or ,re. The$ will not(e attacked ($ (andits or enemies" and the$ will have noworries a(out famine or *overt$. The$ will not (e su(?ect tothe *ower of sorcer$ or curses. The four great god#kings andtheir retinues will *rotect them da$ and night. In addition"the twent$#eight classes of $ak%a generals" the sun" themoon" the ,ve *lanets" and cloudlike comets will *rotectthem da$ and night. All dragon#kings will increase their vitalenerg$ and (ring rainfall at the right time. All gods" including

those in Tra$astri'Qa eaven" will descend during thethree*eriods of the da$ to make o-erings. All fairies will gather

during the three *eriods to circle the *agoda" sing songs of*raise" give thanks" and *a$ res*ects. The god#king7akra and goddesses will descend during the three*eriods of the da$ to make o-erings. The *lace will (e

remem(ered and su**orted ($ all Tath!gatas. Such will (ethe *agoda (ecause it contains this sNtra.  2If *eo*le (uild a *agoda using earth" stone" wood" gold"silver" (ronRe" and lead" and if the$ co*$ this s*iritualmantra and enshrine the co*$ in the *agoda" then as soonas it is enshrined" the *agoda will in e-ect (e made of theseven treasures. The u**er and lower ste*s" dew#catchingwheels" cano*ies" (ells" and columns will all (e made of theseven treasures. Also" the four sides of the *agoda will havethe images of Tath!gatas. Because of the essentials of the

8harma" all Tath!gatas will ,rml$ *rotect and su**ort the*agoda" sta$ing in it da$ and night without de*arting.Because of the awesome *ower of the mantra" the *agodamade of the seven treasures" which contains the wonderfultreasure of the whole#(od$ relics" will soar u* into the midstof the *alaces in Akani%ha eaven. herever a *agodastands like a mountain" all gods will view it with reverence"stand guard" and make o-erings da$ and night.3  a?ra*!@i asked" 2Through what causes and conditions

essentials of the 8harma will long remain in the world"(ringing wide" a(undant (ene,ts and ?o$ful *eace.3  Then the Buddha told a?ra*!@i" 2earken; earken; Theessentials of this 8harma have ine5hausti(le s*iritual *owerand (oundless (ene,ts; It is like a wish#ful,lling ?ewel ato* ac$lindrical (anner" constantl$ raining down treasures andful,lling all wishes. e5t" I will (rie0$ descri(e one ten#thousandth of these (oundless (ene,ts. <ou shouldremem(er and u*hold it for (ene,ting all sentient (eings.

  2If an evil man after death falls into hell" he must su-eruninterru*tedl$" not knowing when release will come.owever" if his descendants sa$ his name and then recitethis s*iritual mantra" u*on com*letion of onl$ sevenre*etitions" the molten co**er and (urning iron in hell willsuddenl$ change into *ond water with the eight virtues. Thisman will have a lotus 0ower su**orting his feet and a

 ?eweled cano*$ over his head. The door of hell will (reak andthe Bodhi a$ will o*en. is lotus 0ower will 0$ him to the)and of Ultimate Bliss. There" his knowledge of all

wood for incense *owder. Then he goes to the *agoda tomake o(eisance and o-erings" circling it seven times"re*enting in tears. Because of the *ower of this s*iritualmantra and the awesome virtue of the *agoda" his *overt$re+uital will end and fortune will suddenl$ arrive. The seventreasures will a**ear like a(undant rain. owever" at thistime" he should give to the *oor and need$" com*letel$honoring the Buddha 8harma. If he is reluctant to give" hisriches will suddenl$ vanish.  2Su**ose a *erson" *lanting roots of goodness for himself"

(uilds a *agoda at his *leasure" using earth or (ricks that hecan a-ord. The *agoda is as (ig as a mango" its height a(outfour ,nger lengths. e co*ies this s*iritual mantra andenshrines the co*$ in the *agoda. Then he makes o(eisanceand o-ers incense and 0owers. Because of the *ower of themantra and his faithful heart" vast" fragrant clouds will comeout of the little *agoda. The fragrance and the light of theclouds will *ervade the dharma realm" widel$ doing Buddhawork with fragrance and radiant clouds. The (ene,ts he will

receive are as I have ?ust stated. In sum" all his wishes will(e ful,lled without e5ce*tion. 8uring the 8harma#endingage" if" among m$ four grou*s of disci*les" good men" andgood women" there are those who" following theunsur*assed a$" do their (est to (uild *agodas andenshrine this mantra in them" I cannot ,nish descri(ing themerit the$ will ac+uire.  2If a *erson goes to the *agoda to ask for fortune" heshould make o(eisance and o-er a 0ower and a littleincense to the *agoda" and circle it clockwise. Because of hisvirtuous act" rank and glor$ will arrive unsought. )ongevit$and *ros*erit$ will increase without e-ort. 9oes and (anditswill fall without (eing su(?ugated. engeful thoughts andcurses will return to their source without resistance.*idemics and evil forces will (e turned awa$ without needof (eing *urged. Their hindrances caused ($ sin will all (eannihilated" and their wishes ful,lled. Their *resent lives will(e *eaceful" and the$ will (e re(orn in the Pure )and ofUltimate Bliss.  2If a *erson" without e5tra e-ort" a**lies a glo( of mud tothe damaged wall of a *agoda or uses a ,st#siRed stone tosu**ort a leaning *agoda" (ecause of this virtuous act" hisfortune will increase and his lifes*an will (e lengthened.

After death" he will (e re(orn as a heel#Turning 4ing.  2After I have a(andoned m$ (od$" m$ four grou*s ofdisci*les" in order to rescue sentient (eings in misera(lee5istence" should come (efore this *agoda" make o-eringsof incense and 0owers" and recite this s*iritual mantra"making vows in earnest. ach and ever$ mantra word and*hrase =the$ utter> will radiate vast" (right light" illuminatingthe three evil life#?ourne$s to end all su-ering. /nce thosesentient (eings are delivered from su-ering" their Buddha

seed will germinate. The$ will then (e re(orn as the$ wish inPure )ands in the ten directions.  2If a *erson recites this mantra earnestl$ on the to* of ahigh mountain" all sentient (eings within the sco*e of hissight" including those in furs" feathers" scales" and shells"residing near and far in mountain valle$s" forests" streams"lakes" rivers" and oceans" will annihilate their aiction#hindrance and recogniRe their ignorance. The$ will realiRetheir three Buddha natures and eventuall$ attain thegreat nirv!@a.
