Yardages and Cutting Note: There are 3 color possibilities for this quilt—pink (color 520), purple (color 620) and aqua (color 920). The purple and aqua quilts are shown at the end of the pattern. Label each piece in the cutting list with the letter given.

Piecing the Blocks Note: Use a 1/4" seam allowance for all stitching.

1. Sew an A strip lengthwise between 2 B strips to make a strip set. Press seams toward the B strips. Repeat to

make a second strip set. Crosscut the strip sets into (10) 6 1/2" AB units. 6 1/2"

2. Stitch a C strip to opposite sides of each AB unit to complete 10 block centers. Press seams

toward the C strips.

3. Sew a D strip to opposite sides of each block center. Press seams toward the D strips.

4. Stitch an E square to each end of the remaining D strips. Press seams toward the D strips. Sew the pieced strips to the top and bottom of each block center to complete (10) 12 1/2" x 12 1/2" A blocks. Press seams toward the pieced strips.

5. Sew an F strip lengthwise between 2 G strips to make a strip set. Press seams toward the G strips. Repeat to make a second strip set. Crosscut the strip sets into (10) 6" FG units. 6"

6. Stitch an H strip to opposite sides of each FG unit to complete 10 block centers. Press seams toward the H strips.

7. Sew a J triangle to 2 adjacent edges of 40 I squares to make 40 corner units. Press seams toward the J triangles. Set aside the 4 remaining I squares for the quilt border.

8. Stitch a corner unit to opposite sides of each block center. Press seams toward the corner units. Sew a corner

unit to the remaining sides of each block center to complete (10) 12 1/2" x 12 1/2" B blocks. Press seams toward the corner units.

Preparing the Scallops

1. Prepare templates for the side and end border scallops using the full-size shapes given at the end of the instructions.

2. Press each of the 3 1/2" x WOF green stripe strips flat. Cut 1 strip in half to make (2) 21" strips.

3. Trace 16 side scallops on the wrong side of 4 full-length green stripe strips, aligning the straight edge of the template with the edge of the strips.

4. Place each marked strip right sides together with an unmarked strip. Pin the strips together inside each scallop. Cut out the scallops through both layers.

5. Stitch around the curved edge of each scallop, leaving the straight edge open. Clip the seam allowance along the curve. Turn each scallop right side out. Press edges flat to complete 16 side scallops.

6. Trace 14 end scallops on the wrong side of 3 full-length green stripe strips and 1 of the 21" strips.

7. Repeat steps 4 and 5 to complete 14 end scallops.

Completing the Quilt Note: Refer to the Exploded Quilt Diagram on the next page throughout steps 1–4.

1. Sew 2 A blocks alternately together with 2 B blocks to make a row. Press seams toward the A blocks. Repeat

to make 5 rows total.

2. Join the rows, turning every other row end for end, to complete the 48 1/2" x 60 1/2" quilt center. Press seams in 1 direction.

3. Sew the 3 1/2" x WOF white circle print border strips short ends together to make a long strip. Cut into (2) 60 1/2" strips and (2) 48 1/2" strips. Stitch the longer strips to the long sides of the quilt center. Press seams toward the strips. Sew an I square to each end of the 48 1/2" strips. Press seams toward the strips. Stitch the pieced strips to the top and bottom of the quilt center. Press seams toward the strips.

4. Sew the 1 1/2" x WOF pink (purple or aqua) tulip border strips short ends together to make a long strip. Cut into (2) 66 1/2" strips and (2) 56 1/2" strips. Stitch the longer strips to the long sides and the shorter strips to the top and bottom. Press seams toward the strips.

5. Place an end scallop on the top edge of the quilt top 1/4" from 1 corner with the straight edge of the scallop aligned with the outside top edge of the quilt top. Pin in place. Repeat on the opposite end of the top edge. Arrange 5 more end scallops along the top edge and pin in place. Machine-baste in place 1/8" from the edge of the quilt top. Remove pins. 1/4"

6. Repeat step 5 on the bottom edge of the quilt top.

7. Repeat step 5 on each side edge of the quilt top using 8 side scallops on each edge.

8. Sew the 6 1/2" x WOF large floral border strips short ends together to make a long strip. Cut into (4) 68 1/2"

strips. Place a strip right sides together on the long sides of the quilt center with the scallops sandwiched between the border strips and the quilt top. Stitch in place. Press the border strips and scallops away from the quilt top with the seam allowance toward the quilt top. Repeat on the top and bottom to complete the quilt top.

9. Remove the selvage edges from the 88" backing pieces. Join the pieces on the long edges with a 1/2" seam allowance. Press seam open. Trim the edges to make a 76" x 88" backing piece.

10. Layer, quilt, and bind, using your favorite methods and the green stripe binding strips, to complete the quilt.
