Surah Ar-Rahman (Ayah 26-28) March 16, 2013
Introduction In Surah Ar-‐‑Rahman we can know about Allah through his blessings and through all that Allah bestowed on his creation. Everything we are enjoying in the universe it due to Allah’s Rahmah. The blessings that we enjoy will make the believer attach himself more to Allah because hadn’t it been for Allah he cannot enjoy any of the blessings around him. A believer, knowing the blessings, will make himself to know more about Allah. As for the disbeliever the blessings around will make increase him to transgress more Now in today’s lesson we will continue Ayah 26 from last week.
(Ayah 26-32) ممننن لطططططاىىففف االننعممم
Ayah 26 contd.
.
In this Ayah we are told everything in the universe will perish. What are the benefits in the perishing of all of the creation?
We will list here the benefits in the perishing of everything in the universe
1. It is because of perishing that we realize that all the creation is equal. a. Death will cancel the richness of the rich and the poverty of the poor b. Death will cancel the power of the strong and it will cancel the weakness of the weak. So it will
make them equal c. Death will cancel the heath of the healthy and the sickness of the sick person. Both the healthy
and sick will die. This makes them equal. At the end all the creation is the same d. It will cancel the ugliness of the ugly and the beauty of the beautiful person. At the end we see
the equality.
If we want everlasting richness, beauty, wealth etc. it is only possible in Paradise.

2. When a person dies it makes them to go to the other life. Had it not for death no one can go to Paradise. Death will make a person go from this life to the Journey to eternity. This life is a test so we should not be deceived with the test. Everything in us and around us is a test to make us attach to Allah.
3. Compare between Dar-‐‑u-‐‑Duniya (this life) and Dar-‐‑u-‐‑Uleya (Hereafter). a. Duniya means something low and Uleya means something high. b. Dar-‐‑u-‐‑Duniya will perish Dar-‐‑u-‐‑Uleya is for eternity. c. Dar-‐‑u-‐‑Duniya is place of worry and grief. We can find in the life sadness and grief while Dar-‐‑u-‐‑
Uleya is peace and happiness. d. The main thing in Dar-‐‑u-‐‑Duniya is struggle. Everyone in this life is struggling. Both the good
people and bad people are struggling. In Dar u Akirah / Paradise / Dar-‐‑u-‐‑Uleya there is only enjoyment as we will get what ever we wish and there is no struggle.
e. Dar-‐‑u-‐‑Duniya is place of work while Dar-‐‑u-‐‑Uleya is only the recompense. There we will be rewarded
f. Dar-‐‑u-‐‑Duniya is place of responsibility. We have too much responsibility in this life. In Dar-‐‑u-‐‑Uleya we have no responsibility. We don’t need to worry about anything we only need to enjoy the blessing it. In Akhirah there is no responsibility.
g. Dar-‐‑u-‐‑Duniya is preparation for Dar-‐‑u-‐‑Uleya Everything in this life will finish and perish. Haayat Akirah is everlasting and is better in quality
Now what are the impacts of knowing this Ayah?
1. Our desires and hopes should be mainly for Akhirah. Our dream should be about Paradise. If we want anything in this life we should not stress about it. If Allah decreed it we will get it, if not then we will not get it, therefore there is no need for worrying. We should remember that we are always under the Rahmah of Allah.
2. Everything in the Duniya should remind us of Akhirah. When we see pleasant weather we should imagine how would it be in Paradise. How will be the days and nights in Paradise?
3. Akhirah is our real life. The time that we are spending now is very precious. We need to think of every moment as to how will it make us closer to Allah. Our worship should start from the heart. Our hearts should be busy thinking about Allah. The Prophet SAW said the person is successful who is always accounting himself and is working for Akhirah and not working for himself and the person is a loser and not successful who follows his desire in this life and wishes from Allah to go to Paradise. However wishes cannot make the person to go to Paradise. It is hope means we long for Paradise and at the same time we do some actions. Scholars say every day is calling out to us “ O Son of Adam. I am a new day / creation and I witness over your deeds. Take your provision from your day.” Imagine one day we need to take our provision to go to Akhirah from that day.

4. Everything in the life will go away and only our good deeds will accompany us. Our children and wealth will leave us while good deeds accompany us. The Prophet SAW said for the dead person that when they will carry him to his grave. Three things will follow him and two will go back except one thing will remain. His Children will be the first one to go back and his wealth will be distributed and only his good deeds will be his companion in his grave. For every day we need to think about what we need to do so we will benefit. We should do everything for Allah.
5. Both the good people and evil people are struggling in this life. Some are struggling in doing good while others are sinning. When they die both the good and the sin will end. The good deeds will end for the believer and the sins will stop for the sinner. Only the recompense will remain. Only the deeds we do for Allah will remain.
Ayah 27
means “to last” or “Will remain”, Who will remain? No one will remain except Allah. Here we find وویيبقى
the name of Allah “االحي”. Allah is االحي as he will remain and everyone else will perish. There is a Hadith of the Prophet SAW that consider yourself among the dead people, as you will die one day. Allah is ever lasting. Allah will always exist. Therefore Allah is the only one praiseworthy. Why do we need to work
and struggle for something that will perish? We need to struggle and work for something for االحي as that will be everlasting. When we do any good deeds, we need to think that only those good deeds will be ever lasting that we do for the sale of Allah. Why should we struggle in this Duniya and have our deed perish?
The answer is to work for االحي. We need to resign from working for ourselves and for other people. Our intention should be to do everything just for Allah. Allah is the everlasting and he is the only one who deserves to be worshipped.
We will enjoy the goods deeds only if we do it for Allah. If we do for Allah then we will not get bored with our good deeds as we are doing for someone who is ever living. This is the key. If we do our worship with sincerity then we can enjoy the fruits of the worship.
ووجھه means “face” This is Allah’s attribute. Even the Quran is Allah’s attribute as it is Kalam Allah. Here
we are told that everything will perish except Allah’s face. The face of Allah is not like the face of any of his creation. This is one of his attributes. It is the most beautiful and we cannot even imagine. Because of his beauty and the light on the face of Allah, he covered his face and his beauty with a veil. This is because
Surah Ar-‐‑Rahman (Ayah 26-‐‑28) • • • • • •

the human being and his creation cannot stand the beauty of Allah and will die e.g. when the women in the city saw Prophet Yousuf, who got half of the beauty of the whole world in one person, they their hands. In this life our body cannot bear extreme beauty/ enjoyment as well as extreme punishment. Too much of happiness and sadness is harmful for us in this life but on Day of Judgment the believers can feel extreme happiness. Feeling of happiness in the Duniya is very limited as compared to the enjoyment for the believers on the Day of Judgment.
This is out of Allah’s Rahmah that he covered himself with a veil. The veil has a glow and light from Allah’s beauty. The face of Allah is the greatest delight. The greatest delight in Paradise is not Paradise itself but to look at the face of Allah. Allah gave only special people the permission to see him. Now in this life we don’t know beauty. Imagine the creator of beauty. Imagine talking with Allah, hearing Allah and seeing Allah which the people of Paradise
When we do good deeds why should we do it for ourselves or other people who will perish? We should do good deeds only for Allah’s sake. Only Allah will be everlasting so our intention should be for Allah. Allah will appreciate our deeds if we do it for him. Allah is most rich. It is unjust to share our good deeds with anyone else.
Allah said in the Quran in Surah Qiyamah Ayah 22:23
Allah said in the Quran when the people in Paradise will see the face of Allah it will add more glow and beauty to their face. People in Firdous ul Alaa will see Allah every day and night. Other levels in lower grade will see Allah once a week others will see Allah once a month. This is according to how much in this life we are longing to see Allah. Ihsaan is to do good deeds as if we are seeing Allah and we do it the best. We long to see the face of Allah. This will make our good deeds sincere.
”.means “your lord, creator, owner, provider, nurturer, reformer, The one who disposes the affairs رربك
What makes us to do Ihsaan? It is knowing that we are slaves of Allah and we are working for our master.
“Roobobiat Allah” means Allah will reform us in our life such that it will make us deserve to see him in Paradise. This requires people to go under too much nurturing and reforming. We need to do best in order to deserve to live in Paradise. Who can nurture and reform us to make us worthy to live in Paradise and see Allah? It is Allah.
Surah Ar-‐‑Rahman (Ayah 26-‐‑28) • • • • • •

This is why when Allah puts us in any decree we need to thank and appreciate Allah for our reforming. When Allah put us in any good situation we should not think it is a reward but we need to think of it as nurturing. We should attach to Allah so we will be upgraded. On the other hand if we are in a bad situation then we need to understand that it is also a test from Allah and we need to be patient. Our test is our reaction to the good or bad situation. All of it is just our reforming. So we should not worry about anybody except our Rub. All our deeds that are not for the sake of Allah will perish except deeds that we do for our master. Master is the one whom we serve. We are concerned only about his pleasure. When we do good deeds we worry about people, if they are happy or pleased. It is said all these worries will perish and only those deeds will remain that are done for Allah, as he is our master. What makes us to do the deeds for him? It is pleasure of Allah.
So what will remain? The pleasure of Allah. So we need to work for our Rub and Master. This Ayah is a blessing that Allah said that everything would perish except the face of your lord meaning the one for whom you need to do the deeds is your master.
The core of all Surah Ar-‐‑Rahman is in these two Ayah. Surah Ar-‐‑Rahman is going aroundذذوو االجلالل وواالإكراامم as this is repeated in the end too. Some scholars say this is Allah’s name and others say this is his description.
There are two supplications having this name ذذوو االجلالل وواالإكراامم:
1. The supplication we recite after the obligatory prayers has the name ذذوو االجلالل وواالإكراامم
2. About The Prophet SAW said this supplication is with Allah’s greatest name.. In ذذوو االجلالل وواالإكراامم
This Dua is a treasure as it has the greatest name of Allah
Some scholars said Allah is the greatest, some say االجلالل وواالإكرااممذذوو is the greatest name and
some say it is یيا حي یيا قیيومم. If we ask Allah with greatest name then Allah will grant us our request.
Surah Ar-‐‑Rahman (Ayah 26-‐‑28) • • • • • •

3. The Prophet SAW said we supplicate we should constantly use ذذوو االجلالل وواالإكراامم
What is the secret behind وو االجلالل وواالإكرااممذذ ? Let us see the jewels of this name:
“ mean “ Sahib the owner ذذوو
means “ Greatest االجلالل and Majesty “ It includes all the names which indicates Allah’s Greatest and Majesty like Al Azeem, Al Aziz , Al Qahhar (Irresistible) , Al Jabbar , Al Qoee , Al Mutakabir. These names indicate Allah’s greatness. The Owner of Greatness and Majesty is Allah. In the life if people have rank, majesty and greatness it is from Allah. He is the one who is the owner of the Greatness and Majesty.
When we know Allah is ذذوو االجلالل وواالإكراامم then how will it make us do our deeds? The result will be that we will do the deeds for Allah alone. No one is great except if Allah makes him or her to be great. And even when Allah gives greatness to someone then it is for a limited time only. Even if people are great they are great in a particular thing only like work or at home. This greatness of the man is granted from Allah so why is the human being arrogant? If we need our good deeds to remain then we should do the good
deeds only for the sake of Allah who is ذذوو االجلالل
When you are slave of ذذوو االجلالل it will free us from all other types of slavery. This way we are slave of someone who is very great, as all attributes of greatness will never be separated from him. This is like the name Al Azeem. Knowing ذذوو االجلالل وواالإكراامم will make us do the good deeds for Allah and no matter how great are our deeds we know it is nothing because it is for Allah who is the owner of greatness so this will make us more humble to Allah as we know Allah deserve so much more.
mean “Honor”. Allah is dealing with us with االإكراامم كراامم When we do good deeds whether big or .ٱٱلإ
small we should not think that our deed would suit Allah, as Allah is most great. When we do good deeds we need to thank Allah and feel more humble to Allah because if we don’t appreciate then Allah will take it away form us. We don’t have relation with Allah except our Taqwa. We should not be proud no matter how great are the deed we do because Allah is the owner of greatness. When people do great deeds we admire them but when we know it is from Allah. At the same time if we do good deeds we should not feel proud as we are giving the good deeds to Allah who is the owner of Greatness.
Allah is dealing with us with كراامم .which means Allah will appreciate our deeds whether good or small ٱٱلإ
We need to thank Allah and feel more humble to Allah is dealing with us with كراامم ٱٱلإ
Surah Ar-‐‑Rahman (Ayah 26-‐‑28) • • • • • •
 7
We should not worry about quantity but rather we need to worry about quality. Even if we do little Allah will give us the honor. A person went to Paradise because he removed the tree from the path. Sometimes people do many good deeds but it is not for the sake of Allah or if they are proud then their deeds will be cancelled.
Allah is the owner of the Honor. Allah will give us the honor when we do deeds for the sake of Allah and he will enter us in Paradise. Paradise is the honor of Allah. Nothing will give us the honor except when
we are working for .i.e. when we work for the face of your lord ذذوو االجلالل وواالإكراامم
Allah is ذذوو االجلالل وواالإكراامم so if we want honor we should work for ذذوو االجلالل وواالإكراامم and resign from working for working for our own self.
Both these things will make us love Allah, magnify Allah and do everything for the sake of Allah. If we want to be great we need to do our deeds for the sake of Allah and Allah will give us the honor.

So which of Allah’s blessing you both deny?
