WIBC: For 17 Years the World’s Largest Annual Gathering of Islamic Finance Leaders

WIBC 2010: Building a New Growth Paradigm

“NCB has been a strong supporter of the World Islamic Banking Conference (WIBC) for many years. NCB Group is delighted to join WIBC 2010 as Platinum Strategic Partners highlighting our long history of innovation in Islamic finance. This year’s WIBC comes at a crucial time for the international industry as Islamic financial institutions seek to further advance their successful achievements in the new global financial landscape.”

Abdul-Kareem Abu Al-NasrChief Executive OfficerThe National Commercial Bank

“The WIBC brings together a unique group of global experts to engage in critical discussions about the most pressing issues today. What emerges is superior insight and inspiring advice about our industry, that tends to give every participant a deeper acknowledgement and appreciation for what the future holds. This truly is an invaluable resource for the global industry players”.

Hussain AlQemziGroup Chief Executive OfficerNoor Investment Group and Noor Islamic Bank

“Gatehouse Bank are pleased to once again be supporting the WIBC in 2010. We are excited about the opportunities presented in an improved trade and economic outlook worldwide, and we are keen to explore new territories also where Islamic finance is now gathering strong momentum. As well as providing a forum for natural Islamic jurisdictions in the Middle East and Asia, we welcome its wider global engagement to help move the industry beyond niche to its absolute relevance in the broader financial services spectrum.”

Richard ThomasChief Executive OfficerGatehouse Bank

“Citi and the WIBC have a long standing relationship with the Middle East. By working together we are helping Middle Eastern and international firms of every kind turn challenge into opportunity by bringing you excellent execution, global consistency and local market expertise.”

Steve DonovanManaging Director, Head of Middle East and Pakistan Global Transaction ServicesCiti

“RAM Rating Services is proud to be the sole ratings partner to WIBC, and we look forward to sharing and exchanging views at this largest gathering of Islamic finance leaders. RAM Ratings has an established presence in the sukuk ratings space; we had the privilege of pioneering credit ratings for sukuk in the early ‘90s when sukuk was a market novelty; today, we stand as the global leader with the largest portfolio of sukuk ratings”.

Liza Mohd NoorChief Executive OfficerRAM Rating Services Berhad – Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

“For Islamic finance to move from 1.0 to 2.0 and from its current $1 trillion state to its deserved level of $2 trillion in the next 5 years, the industry needs paradigm shifting changes. We are observing and actively participating in interesting developments that will move global Islamic finance to that level: from bilateral to multiple liquidity, from fund registration to funds supermarket, from fragmentation to connectivity, from divergence to convergence, and from Islamic finance hub to transaction hub. The World Islamic Banking Conference is an important event for Islamic Finance in this context as it represents the global convergence of multiple stakeholders to create one interconnected transaction hub. As a Knowledge Partner, we look forward to sharing these insights and more at the WIBC 2010 event.”

Rushdi SiddiquiGlobal Head of Islamic Finance & OIC CountriesThomson Reuters

“Luxembourg for Finance (LFF) is a public-private partnership between the Luxembourg Government and the Luxembourg Financial Industry Federation (PROFIL). Its role is to contribute to the development of Luxembourg as an international financial centre by means of a structured international communications policy and by nurturing new business sectors.

LFF supports the development of Luxembourg as an Islamic finance centre, actively promoting its potential as a business hub for Europe and the rest of the world. The Luxembourg market is particularly active in the area of shari’ah compliant investment funds and the listing of sukuk. The World Islamic Banking Conference is an opportune platform for us to showcase the Islamic finance capabilities of Luxembourg. “

Islamic Banking & The New Global Financial Landscape

In collaboration with

The WIBC Competitiveness Report 2010/11A critical reference source for industry decision makers, providing strategic insights from McKinsey & Company.

The WIBC Competitiveness Report - a WIBC innovation - is a ground-breaking initiative designed to not only identify but also to raise the bar of competitive excellence, strategic leadership and performance improvement in the industry. Now in its 7th year, the Competitiveness Report has rapidly evolved into an indispensable reference resource for the key decision-makers in the global Islamic banking & finance industry. The analysis and insights provided in this year’s Report will be even more critical as it comes at a juncture when the major industry players are seeking to adopt best practices and re-visit key strategies and business models in order to ensure continued growth in a challenging economic environment.

The 2010/2011 World Islamic Banking Competitiveness Report, will examine the overall competitiveness of the sector, including its achievements and the challenges it faces; a new focus on the affluent high-net worth segment of Islamic banking; how to measure “real” performance; and the present and future opportunities in the Takaful market.

Keynote Speaker: Shifting Perspectives from Crisis to Recovery to Sustainable Growth

Mark MobiusMark Mobius is the Executive Chairman of Templeton Emerging Markets Group and currently directs analysts based in Templeton’s 15 emerging markets offices and manages the emerging markets portfolios. He has spent more than 30 years working in emerging markets all over the world and was named by Asiamoney magazine in 2006 as one of their “Top 100 Most Powerful and Influential People.” Asiamoney said, Dr. Mobius “…boasts one of the highest profiles of any investor in the region and is regarded by many in the financial industry as one of the most successful emerging markets investors over the last 20 years… and is influencing the direction of billions of investment dollars.“

“The world is unlikely to slide back into a recession”Speaking ahead of WIBC 2010, Dr. Mobius noted “Since the bottom of the market in early 2009, prices have risen from those very low levels. Nevertheless attractive valuations can be found since, on the average, those valuations are in the middle of their long term range. Economic growth in emerging markets is sustainable in view of their strong fundamentals with high productivity, low debt to GDP ratios, and high foreign exchange reserves.”

International Industry AwardsTo recognize and appreciate market leading initiatives and outstanding achievements in the global Islamic finance industry, the World Islamic Banking Conference features three prestigious and high profile awards:

The WIBC Islamic Banker of the Year AwardOne of the oldest and the most prestigious internationally acclaimed awards in the industry, the WIBC Islamic Banker of the Year Award, for 17 years has recognised revolutionary achievements by executive leaders of the international industry. The award uses a unique peer-based voting system to identify the winner each year, with voting forms sent out to renowned figures from within the industry, and the results are audited by Ernst & Young, the official award auditors.

The WIBC Industry Leadership AwardGiven in recognition of an individual’s outstanding contribution to the Islamic banking & finance industry, this award is presented to an industry figure demonstrating strong leadership qualities & long term strategic impact over the industry.

The WIBC Institutional Excellence AwardThis award was established in 2004 and is presented to an Islamic banking & finance institution that has excelled in key performance criteria.
