Friendship day 7 Aug

A TRUE FRIEND

Ashley Montgomery

A true friend never walks away

A true will always stay

A true friend looks out for you

A true friend will guard your secrets

Like a precious gift

A true friend is there for you

To give you a helpful lift

A true friend tries to make you smile

Tries to replace that frown

They may not always succeed

But they rarely let you down

These arms for you are open

This heart for you does care

And when I think you need me

I'll try to always be there

I'll listen to your fears

I promise not to laugh

Comfort your falling tears

I'll make this friendship last

I'll keep you near to my heart

I'll always hold you dear

Even when we're miles apart

Even when you're here

I hope I am to you

Everything you are to me

For the friendship we have

Is a special one indeed.

In Memory of Pauline Brayford

Thank you Pauline,

For all the laughter and tears that we shared

along life’s journey, for the fun that we had, and

most importantly for the marvellous support that

you unstintingly and freely gave me, when my

Joe died

Pauline also used to go to the Children’s Ward at Easter as the

Easter Bunny, giving out Easter eggs that she had bought.

Pottery is now very quiet without you.

Thank you for bringing me back to daytime theatre. And also for

introducing me to Support Links and all the wonderful friends I

have made there.

Through Pauline I also met Sanat and joined his meditation group.

So you see, Pauline was a very important friend to me, and I would

like to share her last funny (and brave) story that happened to her,

which she told me about, when she had just gone into hospice.

Shortly before she went into hospice, her oldest daughter Lucinda

had to return a piece of baby furniture to Logan Dome shopping

centre.

I think that that was one of Pauline’s many gifts, to see the funny

side of life, and to make you smile, to feel good, and to think about

things, and how to change things for the better.

Like Pauline’s wake held at the Ipswich Little Theatre, when she

was well enough to enjoy it too!

I know that I miss you Pauline, and I value greatly the friendship

we shared, and I feel very special to have known you, as others

also do.

I know that I am not alone in these feelings, for you touched many

lives and in this your memory truly lives on.

Your friend, Cynthia Graham

Myth : Boat people' are swamping Myth : Boat people' are swamping

our shores.our shores.

The vast majority of asylum seekers arrive in Australia by air. In 2008, of the 13,500 people granted asylum in Australia only 206 of those arriving without visas came by boat; 2,291 came by plane - well over 90%. There is also data to suggest that people who arrive by boat are more likely to be legitimate refugees. Of asylum claims made by people who arrive by aircraft, 55% are rejected. Only 2 - 15% of claims made by people arriving by boat are denied.

This number is also small when compared to the number of people who over-stay their visa in Australia each year, particularly those on travelling visas, the majority of whom are English-speaking tourists.

Conservative estimates suggest that, on average, 50,000 people stay in Australia without the proper documentation each year.

Some media have been misquoting data that last year 13,500 asylum seekers were granted refugee status. The Department for Immigration & Citizenship has responded that the vast majority of these in fact 'came to Australia on valid visas as part of Australia's dedicated offshore refugee resettlement program or were proposed as s p e c i a l h u m a n i t a r i a n p r o g r a m entrants - largely, they were not asylum seekers', with over 11,000 visas granted before entry to Australia through proper processes.

Reducing High Blood Pressure

Bottle gourd / Calabash / Long melon or Lagenaria

vulgaris is a very common vegetable .

150 gm of this gourd is washed well and cooked with

500 ml of water in a pressure cooker till soft. The skin need not be

peeled . Crush the vegetable and filter the water and drink it while

lukewarm. This must be done on an empty stomach in the morning . One

should not eat or drink anything for an hour after drinking this .This

will definitely bring down the high B.P levels in a person.

"Our wedding in Switzerland Six years ago we were both travelling

the world with our work and discovering new places and cultures. Then we

discovered each other and immediately had a undeniable attraction. Our only

problem was how to stay together in the same place, so I came to Australia.

One of the things we share is a love for nature and the outdoors - possibly because these are beautiful in ANY

language. However no matter where we are, we're careful to communicate

well - even underwater. We celebrate with our friends and

family, that our commitment to each other is true and deep and unending.
