    SUPPORT FOR SINGAPORES DISABLED ATHLETES AT THEINAUGURAL ASIAN YOUTH PARA GAMES IN TOKYO

    A twenty-strong contingent from Team Singapore will be part of the inaugural Asian Youth Para Games,to be held from 10 to 13 September in Tokyo. The Games will commence with the Opening Ceremony on 10September, and competition events from 11 to 13 September. Mr Teo Ser Luck, Senior ParliamentarySecretary for Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, will be attending the Games from 10to 12 September to show support for our youth para-athletes.

    2 The Asian Youth Para Games is a multi-sport event for athletes with physical disabilities. This yearsevent will involve the participation of approximately 1000 participants from countries all over Asia, in 6 sports

    Athletes, Boccia, Goalball, Swimming, Table Tennis and Wheelchair Tennis as a demonstration sport.Eight youth athletes will be representing Singapore in Athletics, Boccia and Swimming.

    3 The objective of the Games is to contribute to the development of the Paralympic movement throughoutthe Asian region and around the world; strengthen bonds among the participating countries; as well asencourage youth athletes to step forward to pursue their dreams, and nurture resilience and determinationthrough sports. This vision is represented by the slogan for this years Games; Your Dream, Our Legacy.

    4 Mr Teo said, I am excited to be in the midst of the competition atmosphere to cheer on our youth para-athletes, and hope we will continue to see increased participation among youth at such sports meets in thecoming years. As we strive to strengthen our overall youth sports system to create a long term youthpipeline in Singapore, we will ensure that we provide all-inclusive opportunities to encourage moreparticipation among our local youth, whether able or disabled.
