Supplementary Measurments

Measure the circumference of the thigh when seated.Place two ngers underneath the tape measure.to include at least 3 to 5 cm to the measurement for ease of movement.

The trouser legs should be at least 3 to 5 cm widerthan the actual body thigh width.

NOTE. This measurement is checked on the patternto establish that the trousers will t comfortably aroundthe thigh.Should the thighs be thin, you will not have to applythis measurement to the basic pattern, howeverif the thighs are wide, the width must beapplied to the pattern.

Thigh WidthThe circumference of the waist. The trouser pattern is formedfrom the hip width and crutch depththen shaped at the waist, to t to the waist width.by darts, or by elastic.

Measure the bent knee, allowing atleast 4 to 6 cm ease as well

This measurement is applied to the patternif a very snug t around narrow leg are requiredas in stretch denim or boot leg style.

Measure from the waist downthe leg to the "middle" of theknee cap.

14 -18 PLUS SIZE

These two measurements form theframework for every trouser pattern.

The Hip width

The Crutch depth.

Some gures will have TWO hip widths. Thus two hip widths are measured and recorded.

The widest hip width

Observe that the higher hip is smaller. Therefore the higher hip is NOT the measurement to use to make the trouser pattern.

High hip

Correct hip width

The widest measurement may be:-1. the higher hip width, 2. the 2 nd hip width or, in some cases, 3. the tummy width.

The widest measurement between thewaist and the crutch depth is the measurement that is used to draft a trouser pattern. Tie a piece of string around the waist.

Sit on a at hard surface.Measure down the side, from the waist to the seat of the chair or table on which you are seated.

CrutchDepth

The widest measurementis the size numberto use on thepattern ruler.

1. The Hip Width

2.The Crutch Depth

If the widest measurement is below the crutch -this will not be the hip width. This is the width of the thigh. The thigh circumferwence is measured around the top of the leg and applied to the pattern at the top of the leg.

This is the width ofthe hip, this hip width will be the size used to draft the basic trouser pattern.
