I. INTRODUCTION
1.1. Background
The challenge of global job-seeking competition and
ASIAN Economic Community requires Ganesha University of
Education prepare students to be competent and ready for
international job competition. Internship program is one of the
ways to reach the idea especially in diploma departments and
in some undergraduate departments. The program gives
students opportunity to gain work experience in particular
industries. It offers students a hands-on opportunity to work in
their desired fields. They learn how their course of study
applies to real world and build a valuable experience that
makes them stronger candidates for jobs after graduation.
Internship program is an integral part of the curriculum
in vocational departments of Undiksha. The students are
required to undertake the program as a step in finishing their
study. The vocational atmosphere opens wider chance for the
students to have more practical skills than theoretical
knowledge in their study. Through the internship program, the
students are expected to recognize, know, comprehend the
objective conditions of the job qualification, the kinds of tasks
at work, fields of business, technology development, and any
opportunities in industrial world, companies, and institutions.
There is also another benefit that can be obtained from
internship program, that is the initiation or improvement of the
mutual cooperation between Undiksha and various companies
or institutions which can be the end users of the graduates.
Undiksha will have inputs for curriculum development to yield
graduates who meet the requirements of the companies. Then,
the companies will be able to recruit more qualified staff from
the university graduates.
Vocational departments in Undiksha have been sending
their students to companies in Bali and also to some in other
islands. The program have been well-implemented for years. In
2
order to face the challenge of the ASEAN Economic
Community, Undiksha expands the implementation of the
internship program to companies and institutions overseas. By
having overseas internship program, the students will have
better insights about job competition at least in ASEAN or
countries around Asia.
In the implementation of the program, a guidance is
really required for avoiding misconception between Undiksha
side and companies side. It includes the initial preparation,
implementation, and the evaluation of the internship program.
The following parts will explain some aspects in the internship
program.
