• Artistandveteran,JesseAlbrecht(Bozeman,MT)analyzeshistorical,cultural,ethical,andcontemporaryaspectsofwar.Heworksinamediainclusivemannerandusesprint,sculpture,drawing,andinstallationworktofindreliefintheprocessofcreatingart.“Myworkisavesselforinformation-emotional,historical,andphysical.Ithinkofmypiecesasfreelectures.Itcanbearefugefromhiddenagendasandaffiliations,andachancetoholdamirrortosociety,ormaybeataleofwhatisbehindthecurtain.”• SharifBey(Syracuse,NY)hasaparticularinterestandscholarshipin
African-Americanarthistory,arteducationofformercommunistEurope,andcontemporarycrafts.Hehasconductednumerouslecturesandworkshops,andexhibitednationallyandinternationally.Hisstudioworkrangesfromdecorative/functionalpotterytoconceptualceramicworksinfluencedbyritualandAfrican-Americanidentity.“Myinitialtrainingasafunctionalpotterhasnotonlyinformedmysculpturewithregardstoformandsurface,butitiswheremyearliestdiscussionswithregardstoobject,function,andritualbegan.Iexplorealternativewaysofpayingrespecttotraditional,functional,adornment,andceremony.Theseformscross-referencenotionsofpower,ornamentation,andnaturalhistorywithobjectsandimagesassociatedwithvarioustraditionalAfricanjewelry/currencies.”
