Learning Objectives:

Understand the difference between hearing and listening

Know some ways to improve the verbal skills of asking questions and communicating with power.

Identify ways of sharing one’s opinions constructively. DEALING WITH DIFFICULT EMPLOYEES (NSC – Module 3) Description: Lots of supervisors moan about their "difficult employees." Usually that's because they try to fix the wrong thing, because they don't start early enough, and don't want to take the time needed. You'll hear lots of people say, for example, that someone who works for them "has a bad attitude." When they talk about dealing with difficult employees, they want to fix that attitude. But that's not what supervision is about. The only thing you can supervise, because it's the only thing you can see and measure is behavior. Behavior is what people say and what people do and nothing else. Learning Objectives:

Identify what makes employees “difficult”

Recognize what things they may do as a supervisor that enables an employee to be difficult

Identify typical people problems

Understand why it is important to work to turn around these people

Use a 4 step process to take action with the employee MANAGING AND RESOLVING CONFLICT (NSC – Module 4) Description: People often assume that conflict is always negative. This is not true! People are inherently different, and conflict simply happens when those differences come to light. Viewing conflict in this way can help us maximize the possible positive outcomes of the problem at hand. Equipped with a conflict resolution process, people can explore and understand those differences, and use them to interact in a more positive, productive way. This course will give participants a process that they can use to modify and resolve conflicts of any size. Participants will also learn crucial conflict resolution skills, including when to manage conflict versus resolve.

BUSINESS ETIQUETTE (NSC – Module 5)

Description: Success in any industry relies on relationships, whether with co-workers, clients, suppliers or investors. When you’re well-mannered and considerate in dealing with others, you create engaging, productive and long term business relationships. As such, it is important to learn, not just the technical side of a business, but how to conduct one’s self in the company of others. This is where business etiquette comes in. This workshop will introduce participants to business etiquette, as well as provide guidelines for the practice of business etiquette across different situations. Learning Objectives:

Define etiquette and provide an example of how etiquette can be of value to a company or organization.

Understand the guidelines on how to make effective introductions.

Identify the 3 C’s of a good impression.

Identify at least one way to minimize nervousness while in social situations.

Understand how to use a business card effectively.

BUSINESS WRITING (NSC – Module 6) Description: Writing is a key method of communication for most people, and it’s one that many people struggle with. This workshop will give participants a refresher on basic writing concepts (such as spelling, grammar, and punctuation), and an overview of the most common business documents (such as proposal, reports and agendas), giving you that extra edge in the workplace.

The main objective of this session is to provide basic guidelines for compliance with important federal employment laws. SUPERVISORS AS LEADERS (BSSC – Module 1) Description: Supervising others can be a tough job. Develop competencies for managing change BUSINESS ETHICS (BSSC – Module 3) Description: A company's ethics will have an influence on all levels of business. It will influence all who interact with the company including customers, employees, suppliers, competitors, etc. All of these groups will have an effect on the way a company's ethics are developed. It is a two-way street, the influence goes both ways, which makes understanding ethics a very important part of doing business today. But when management learns effective ways to handle and deliver constructive criticism, employees can not only learn from their mistakes, but even benefit from them. Learning Objectives:

Intermediate Supervisory Skills Certificate (ISSC) Because successful supervisory leadership is dependent on the willingness of others to follow, understanding oneself is paramount to understanding and influencing others to achieve desired workplace results. This training process will enable supervisory leaders to integrate the foundational tools acquired in the Basic Supervisory Skills Certificate program to successfully reduce conflict and tension, motivate employees to higher levels of performance, and to effectively manage expectations. LEADERSHIP AND INFLUENCE (ISSC – Module 1) Description: Leadership is not telling others what to do. Leadership is inspiring others to do what needs to be done. Many people around the world who are in leadership positions are not leaders. What is it that makes a leader, and what separates the good from the great? This workshop will explore different leadership theories and examine what makes a great leader.

Influence is subtle, yet incredibly powerful. You can order someone to do a task, but you cannot order them to do their best. It simply does not work and usually has the opposite effect. WHAT IS A MIDDLE MANAGER (ASSC – Module 1) Description: Traditionally, middle managers make up the largest managerial layer in an organization. Communicate between employees and their supervisors LEADING CHANGE (ASSC – Module 3) Description: In your role of managing people, you likely have experienced resistance to change from employees. However, you may not recognize the role you can plan is preventing that resistance and leading change. Most managers do not make this connection until they experienced failure in an important change project. Failure occurs when attention is paid solely to the business change and little or no attention is paid to the employees affected by the change. The result is higher turnover, loss of valued employees, reduced productivity and project delays. This workshop will prepare you to “sponsor” the change by leading employees through the change. FACILITATION SKILLS (ASSC – Module 5) Description: Facilitation is often referred to as the new cornerstone of management philosophy. With its focus on fairness and creating an easy decision making, facilitation can make any organization make better decisions. This workshop will give participants an understanding of what facilitation is all about, as well as some tools that they can use to facilitate small meetings. Learning Objectives:

Define facilitation and identify its purpose and benefits.

Clarify the role and focus of a facilitator.

Differentiate between process and content in the context of a group discussion.

Provide tips in choosing and preparing for facilitation.

Identify a facilitator’s role when managing groups in each of Tuckman and Jensen’s stages of group development: forming, storming, norming, and performing.

NEGOTIATION SKILLS (ASSC – Module 6) Description: Although people often think of boardrooms, suits, and million dollar deals when they hear the word “negotiation,” the truth is that we negotiate all the time. For example, have you ever… - Decided where to eat with a group of friends? - Decided on chore assignments with your family? - Asked your boss for a raise? These are all situations that involve negotiating! This workshop will give participants an understanding of the phases of negotiation, tools to use during a negotiation, and ways to build win-win solutions for all those involved.

Since the manager interacts with several aspects of the workplace, one should learn how to effectively work with colleagues, supervisors, and upper management in order to help keep the department functioning as a whole Learning Objectives:

Recognize how you are a part of a group and how you function. STRESS MANAGEMENT (ASSC – Module 8) Description: Positive and negative stress is a constant influence on all of our lives. The trick is to maximize the positive stress and to minimize the negative stress. This workshop will give participants a three-option method for addressing any stressful situation, as well as a toolbox of personal skills, including using routines, relaxation techniques, and a stress log system. Learning Objectives:

Identify the best approach to a stressful situation (Alter, Avoid, or Accept)

Understand what lifestyle elements you can change to reduce stress

Use routines to reduce stress
