• The 3 components that make up a the Agriculture Education Program are:
- Classroom (Rigor)- FFA (Youth Leadership
Development )- Supervised Agriculture
Experience (Relevancy/hands on learning)
SAE - Definition
• SAE –Supervised Agricultural Experience –
oSupervised program consisting of all the planned real-world learning activities conducted outside of class-time in which the student develops and applies agricultural skills and knowledge.

• What did that mean?
• This is a project designed to encourage students to learn more about an area of interest to them in agriculture.
How do we complete it?• Complete the SAE plan and turn it in for
approval.•Pick a topic/project that is of
interest to you!• A minimum of 30 hours outside of class
must be spent on this project.(per semester)
• This will make up 20% of your grade.• This project is graded twice a semester
First 15 hours Due: October 23, 2015
Final hours and project due: December 11, 2015
How do we complete it? (continued)
• All projects must include a portfolio with pictures.
• Summary/personal reflection about the project and what was learned.

SAE Project Idea Suggestions
• 1. Start your own businesso Example: build and sell bird feeders, make and sell
corsages, plant and sell blue berries, etc.
Product: a. Develop a business plan - What are you going to sell? How are you going to get
started? What is your timeline for completion of each step? How are you going to market your product? Who is your target market?
b. Explain how your business has grown and developed.

• 2. Conduct an Experimento Examples: research plant fertilizers, compare the
effectiveness of different fishing lures, etc. Product: a. Hypothesis – what do you expect to find out doing the
experiment? b. List of supplies needed. c. Keep a journal/log of the experiment data and results. d. Results – What did you find out? e. Why do you think the experiment turned out the way it
did f. What would you change about the experiment if you
were to do it again.

• 3. Build/Design a Productexamples: birdhouse, a series of floral arrangements, sawhorses, design and plant a flower garden, etc.
Product:a. Turn in what you built/designed and/or pictures of the final product and its construction. A video tape or power point presentation are also options.

• 4. Teach a topic to a groupo Examples: teach an elementary class– teach
an Elementary group something related to agriculture, set up and guide a field trip to a greenhouse or dairy farm etc. Show them how to plant and care for flowers/crops

• 5. Raise and care for an animal or plant.
Product:a. Explain the basic needs of the animal or plant.b. What are the signs of health?c. What are the common illnesses or diseases?

choose one, types of dogs, how to care for a salt water aquarium, etc.
Product: a. A 5 page paper, typed and double- spaced,
12 pt. font. b. At least 3 different sources, only one source
may be from the internet

• 7. Volunteer or Job Shadow-Examples: Volunteer at a humane society, animal shelter or other business. Job shadow at an agriculture business, horse barn, etc.

• 8. Farm Facilities management• -Examples: Complete hours at school helping
to build structures, take care of plants, and improve the farm.

• SAE Related Web-Site Assignmento Locate 5 web sites related to your SAE Project. Record the
web site address, name, and briefly describe the web site and how it is useful for your project.
AND
• SAE Career Study Assignmento Select and describe 3 careers related to your SAE Project.
Include Name of career; Preparation Required (Education Needed); Personal Qualities Needed; Income Possibilities; Future of Occupation; Desirable Qualities Associated With The Position; Undesirable Qualities Associated With The Position.

• Education Assignmento Locate 3 Post-Secondary institutions that have
a degree related to your SAE project. Provide the following information about each institution:
