Supersensitive Hydrogen Sensors

TItania nanotubes have been found to be 1.500 times better material for sensing hydrogen. On entering ap array oj titanija nanotubes, hydrogen, not only flows around an the surfaces but also splits into individually charged atoms and permeates the surface of the nanotubes. Electrons for hydrogen ions are provided for conductivity. The change in conductance indicates the presense of hydrogen. The material is velY sensitive, cheap and reusable.

The research findings were reported by Dr Craig A Grines of Penn State and his coworkers in sensors and Actuators B: Chemical (August 1, 2003). Low-cost hydrogen catalyst

A nickel-tin catalyst has been discovered, that can replace the platinum metal used in the preparation of hydrogen fuel from plants through a newenvironmentally sustainable, green house-gas-neutral, low temperature process. The hydrogen is made without vaporizing water, because, the process occurs in a liquid phase at low reaction temperatures resulting in considerable energy saving in comparison to the conventional fossil fuel-based hydrogen generation methods where water is required to be boiled away.

The research has been reported in Science (June 27, 2003) by a group of chemical and biological engineers from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Lost cost transformation of composite materials

As innovative technology which allows rapid transformation of composite materials has been developed and patented by a lTench SME. The technology involves direct heating of the composite material to be transformed and not the whole mould. The main advantages of this technology includes the reduction of time cycle and energy consumption and also, there is no need to pre-heat the moulds. . . '. ,

New Patents Synthesis of amorphouzed polyvinyl alcohol

A method has been reported for the synthesis of novel amorphouzed polyvinyl alcohol that swells rapidly in cold water imd is suitable for the preparation of gels and spinning solutions. Technological effectiveness of the method is good. It facilitates the exclusion of toxic methanol from the components, utilization of the parent polymer, polyvinyl acetate in any form i.e. grqnule, powder or latex.
