SuperFlex – Broadband DVB IP Solutions

The SuperFlex family of DVB-S/S2 products provide a flexible andhighly modular system solution for virtually any IP multicastingapplication imaginable.

Based on IDC’s decades of experience in data broadcasting, SuperFlex is the mostmature IP multicasting product on the market today.

SuperFlex is based on open standards for maximum interoperability and backwardscompatibility—helping to future-proof networks and to protect customers’ capital invest-ments. Because the SuperFlex system is compliant with the DVB-S/S2 (satellite)standard, it’s interoperable with both satellite networks and terrestrial IP networks.

The multimedia distribution business is driven by the ability to deliver broadband contentreliably. IP multicasting via satellite is the most cost effective point-to-multipointdistribution method available today. The SuperFlex family offers the proven technologyto make it happen.

The leader in DVB-S/S2IDC is a longtime leader in DVB technology and was the first in its class to deliverDVB-S2 products. Building on that experience IDC is now pleased to be expandingits range of DVB-S/S2 products. Through improved FEC and modulation modes aswell as spectral efficiency DVB-S2 offers superior performance and significantcost savings.

SuperFlex includes head end equipment, networkmanagement and software needed to configure anuplink for virtually any broadband IP multicastingapplication.

CORE HEAD END ITEMS:

IP Encapsulator – the IPE is the coreelement around which the rest of thehead end system is configured. Availablein four different speeds (8, 110, 160 and210 Mb/s) to match the application andbudget, the IPE provides an easy wayto connect the rest of the head endequipment.

DVB Modulator – the modulator isextremely bitrate agile – from kilobits persecond to megabits per second – allowingnetwork operators to easily reconfigurenetwork data speeds as requirementschange. DVB-S/S2 compliant.

NetManager – is IDC’s proven in band(over-the-satellite) Network ManagementSystem (NMS) solution for configuring,managing and controlling satellitereceivers. It features a browser-based GUIfor operator-friendly local and remoteoperation. NetManager can be driven byother management applications via theSOAP / Web Services (WSDL) interface.

FlexKey Encryptor – provides highlysecure 128-bit encryption of selectedcontent of the DVB ASI stream. IDC alsointegrates third-party encryption andConditional Access Systems.

The Datacast XD Host, a core head endcomponent, is IDC’s Content Management& Distribution software system. It’s madeup of core software components withoptional add-on modules. The integrated

modules combine to implement highlyreliable Store and Forward file transfersystems as well as streaming applications.

Datacast XD includes application-levelForward Error Correction (FEC) andencryption, automated scheduling,confirmed delivery reporting, remote siteclient management and database logging.It also comes with a built-in SOAP/ WebServices (WSDL) interface for ease ofautomation and integration with othermonitoring and control systems (e.g.,via WSDL/.NET/XML commands).

EVERYTHING FOR THE UPLINK – reliable, versatile and scalableThe SuperFlex head end consists of a set of core subsystems as well as options for additionalfunctionality. Enterprise-grade, designed to be installed in industry standard 19-inch racks, themajority of the IDC head end equipment is provided installed on standard 1RU industrial serversbased on a common processor platform for easier maintenance and low cost of ownership.

The SuperFlex head end equipmentis highly modular and is providedin standard 1RU high 19-inch rackconfigurations.

SuperFlex receiver appliances come in a varietyof configurations for today’s applications andperformance specifications. Controlled by acommon network management system, thevarious receivers and appliances can even bemixed together in a single DVB network—idealfor multiple applications and business modelswith a single network investment.

Choice of Encryption & ConditionalAccess SystemsSuperFlex offers a wide range of options fornetwork security and conditional access:

Irdeto Cyphercast/Pisys – the industry’s lead-ing IP encryption and CAS system. Featuresboth 56-bit and 128-bit encryption and anextensive Subscriber Management (SMS).

DVB Common Interface CAS – SuperFlexsupports DVB-CAS systems, including: Irdeto,Nagra, NDS and others using a CAM andSmartCard.

IDC FlexKey 128-bit encryption – IDC’sproven 128-bit AES encryption. The decryptionkeys are stored in a secure internal device inthe receiver. No smart card is required. Ideallow-cost or entry-level solution.

Datacast XD Encryption – 128-bit applica-tion encryption of both files and streamscomes built-in with Datacast XD. Featuresuser-selectable AES128, CAST128 orMicrosoft™ algorithms so content can beencrypted all the way to the enduser.
