It is Sunday night, it’s the Super Bowl and Ian could care less.He roamed the streets1 gazing up at office buildings that only housed two or more

people, with one cube of lights among the stack 2.Outside, he was not alone. There were others like him.Others who didn’t care about the Super Bowl, Others who didn’t know who was

going to win3

, or still others who didn’t even it know it was going on. They weren’t at Super Bowl parties; They weren’t laughing together about the

newest commercial4; They weren’t holding hands with someone who they may or may not of loved5.

Instead, they roamed these streets6, either listening to the wind pass throughthem or to their iPod7, drowning out everything around them with the music8 - includinghim9.

1Streets being a relative term; alleys and pathways were also used.

2

These “stacks” consisted of, as obviously (or better: arguably) alluded to, buildings, of an indescript height. In reality, they may have been only 7 to 10 stories high, or in

altitude as technical-minded people say, but they looked higher at the moment.3

Or have any strong opinion on it.4

Which ended up being one for an Internet provider, or something, that was shot like alow-grade porno but cut right before the woman showed her bosoms.5

Some people love, or are in love, while others don’t, or aren’t. There is a wide array of potential reasons and/or backstories for every possible person Ian could possibly be

referring to in his head, but it’s rather complicated, and going into each case would beincredibly hardheaded and time-consuming. It would probably be easier just to boil it

down:So, boiled down, it can be argued that everyone in the world is either in love, or

not in love. This is easy to see (discounting those ‘asexual’ people, or people who don’tbelieve in love – well actually, they can be counted in the latter category so it still works)

and rather effective.Maybe this is a cheap argument, because anything can really ‘boil down’ to

anything, can’t it? You either are something, or you aren’t – is that really a philosophicalargument?6

Streets once again being a relative term; alleys or pathways can still be implied.7

Or ‘Zune’ – these things are hard to tell.8

But what were they listening to? This important note is not adequately described. One could argue that it was probably of the classic variety – i.e., the Beatles, the

Stones, or to a lesser extent the Kinks – but that’d only be because that ‘one’ who issuggesting and/or actually arguing is probably inclined to listen to such things.

Maybe it was indie – Pavement, maybe? They are, from what is being said onsocial networking sites, the quintessential indie band, are they not? College kids listen to

indie, don’t they? Does this story even take place in college?9

Now, this can’t be said with certainty – regardless of whether or not it is implied or not.

Ian believed he was being drowned out. All evidence cited points to his conclusion, aswell, but then again we don’t know what these other potential characters were thinking

about/doing so we can’t speak for them, can we?

So, instead of watching the Super Bowl10, he roamed the streets11 with theseother, lonely, busy, people12, wishing he could hold someone’s13’hand; be someone’s14 friend; eat salsa15 at some gathering to celebrate16 the outcome of the game17 with somesense of camaraderie18.

Instead, he walked19.

All we can say for sure is that the effect of whichever actions these othercharacters – the term “characters” being used loosely, as studies have shown to be

inconclusive on whether or not a character can be a character without characterization(would they just be setting?) - had a ‘drowning’ effect on Ian.10

And/Or the Commercials11

Once again not only streets; but also alleys and designated pathways.12

Arguable.13

Ian is not talking about just anybody here – he is thinking of a particular person.14

This, however, is more general.15

The term “salsa” isn’t as important as the idea of something used for the dipping of

chips, or any really popular product that draws most of its revenue from party-hosters. Itwould completely work if Ian were to desire melted cheese (implying that they were to be

used on corn chips, of course) or even, to a further extent, buffalo wings. This does not, or was not designed to, imply that Ian is a fan/even-occasional-

partaker of salsa, or that he is a vegetarian (this is a stretch, but some equate salsa eatingto the lack of meat eating, which, to their minds, may or may not imply that Ian is a

vegetarian. He is not. But there’s nothing wrong with that, say, if he was), and rather justdesired it at the moment.16

Or Mourn – it really depending on the popular vote of Happiness v. Despair in theroom after the game had finished.17 Super Bowl XLIV, in particular.18 Not that military-based camaraderie you are force fed from Hollywood. None of the

“Saving Private Ryan” stuff. Just that “hey, let’s cheer and yell about some meaninglessevent”-type, where everyone feels closer without actually being closer. It’s peculiar, and

deserving of further academic study. Also, if one happens to find themselves interested in such a query, Ian would

place this second (or even possibly third) on his stated wish list of would-be relational-based activates.19

No footnote is necessary here.
