RIVERSIDE ORANGE DELIGHT (GCHB Riverside Captain Orange x GCH Riverside Get’N Fancy At Lerouge). Owner: Deborah Shindle. Breeder: Darnell Jones & Deborah Shindle. Nicely proportioned young boy with correct outline, adequate length of neck, correct front and proper shoulder assembly. An attractive head with nicely shaped, dark eyes and dark eye rims. His topline was level and held nicely on the move. Clean coming and going, moving well from the side. Overall, a well put together puppy. 2. Breeder: Peggy Kucipak & Cynthia M Savioli & Vincent Savioli & Roberta Lord. This young boy has all of the pieces and promise which only need time and maturity. I loved his long low outline, the length of his upper arm and the matching balance of his rear angles to his front angles, which gave great scope to his side movement. When it all comes together he should be one to watch. 3. RIVERSIDE ORANGE CRUSH (GCHB Riverside Captain Orange x GCH Riverside Get’N Fancy At Lerouge. Owner: Deborah Shindle. Breeder: Darnell Jones & Deborah Shindle. Very similar to the winner of this class in head shape and proportions (littermates), I wished for more length to create the proper height to length ratio. His movement down and back was clean. However, from the side he did not have the ease of the two that placed higher. 4. TRIAD NATURALLY NOTICEABLE (GCH Martindale Black Bart x GCH Triad Pandorable) Owner: Helen Dumond & Patty Gailey. Breeder: Patty Gailey. Nicely proportioned head on this puppy and dark eyes. PUPPY DOGS, 12 TO 18 MONTHS (5 Entered, 2 Absent)1. TRIPLE H BECHANCI STRIKE UP THE

BAND (Ch Talkabout Loving The Knight Away x Ch Lin-Kel Nanteos Eirian) Breeders/Owners: Deborah G Cox & Cheryl A Owens. This BHT caught my eye the moment he walked into the ring. It was a pleasure to see his smooth easy movement and level topline as he went around the ring, clearly a standout. His outline, 40% longer than tall, was so correct that I simply could not wait to put my hands on him. On the table he did not disappoint. Correct head proportions and planes, dark oval shaped eyes with properly set medium sized ears gave him a wonderfully sweet, yet masculine, express. He had me at “hello”. Good front assembly, correct neat feet, adequate bone for his size, (he’s a moderately sized dog), well sprung ribs and a short loin leading to a balanced rear with well let down hocks. Once back on the ground, I truly loved how he stood “four square” without any fuss from his handler. It was my pleasure to see him move again and to award him first place and then WD. (Strongly considered for BOS).

WINNERS DOG.

2. CORGARD’S CATCH ME IF YOU CAN (GCH Corgard’s Dial One-VIII-Hundred Yum Yum CA x Ch Corgard’s Rise Of The Second Stun). Owner: Susan Friedman & Kandy L Boll & Michele Pohl. Breeder: Kandy L Boll & Michele L Pohl. A very nice package overall, correct head type, standing on a little more leg then ideal for his body length. I would have preferred less upright angulation front and rear. His movement was clean down and back.

3. RIVERSIDE ME’N MY SHADOW (GCH Tara Long Story Short x Ch Riverside Don’T Leave Me) Owner: Deborah S Broussard &

Deborah B Shindle. Breeder: Deborah B Shindle. Tri boy with a very pleasing head with

correct eye shape and color, was well presented by his handler. His outline left me wanted more length of body and unfortunately, today he wasn’t moving well.

DOGS, BRED BY EXHIBITOR (2 Entered, 2 Absent)

DOGS, OPEN (5 Entered, 1 Absent)1. AFARA CALICO PONY (Ch Rosewood

Set Sail To Salvenik x Afara Zipadeedoodah) Breeder/Owner: P Chen. A larger dog with good body proportions, correct angles in front and rear, nicely ribbed back. Very pleasing head piece. Level topline which he held firmly while on the move. This guy covered the ring very efficiently without racing. His easy movement and correct head proportions propelled him to first place and then RWD.

RESERVE WINNERS DOG.

2. GLAMUR NOTTINGHAM (Mont Dwynella Rough N Rowdy x Hailait’s Zegna) Owner: Li Zhi Peng. Breeder: S G Ponomarenko. This red and white dog has a lot to like about him; his height to length ratio gives him the correct outline. Longer in the muzzle then the standard calls for. He has well sprung ribs and feels well-muscled and conditioned. His Angles front and back allow him to move around the ring well. And yet, his handler moves him way too fast, simply not necessary.

3. DOUBLE G’S 007 SHAKEN NOT STIRRED (Ch Double G’s James Bond x GCH Baker Street Olive Oil) Owner: Marthina Greer. Breeder: Yvette Huesler. Pretty Tri boy with correct head proportions creating a pleasing expression. A decent length of neck leading into a nice

shoulder, good bone and feet. I would like more body length for balance and outline. Today his topline did not hold.

4. RIVERSIDE IT’S ABOUT TIME (GCH Hum’nbird Groundhog Day x Ch Riverside Black Magic Woman) Owner: Victoria Lowell. Breeder: Candace Brown & Deborah B Shindle. Pretty head on this Tri boy, dark pigment, good eye shape and color. Too upright in his front and rear angles to allow unrestricted movement. Presented well by his handler

PUPPY BITCHES, 6 TO 9 MONTHS (4 Entered, 0 Absent)1. SANDFOX GOLDEN SYLPH (GCH

Sandfox Golden Whistler x GCH Sandfox Chance Encounter At Perivale) Owner: Vicki Sandage DVM. Breeder: Vicki Sandage DVM & Feli Noeller DVM. A very appealing red and white puppy bitch with wonderful length to height proportions. With pretty and very correct head type, featuring dark correctly shaped oval eyes with dark eye rims, lip line and nose. Her properly placed ears and muzzle to skull proportions made up her feminine expression. A lovely reach of neck set onto a nicely angled shoulder gave her a very sound front. A good spring of ribs, carried well back to a short loin made it easy for her level topline to hold on the move. The balanced rear angles allowed her to move freely around the ring. Being a very young puppy, she had her moments of silliness, as they all did. Yet overall she was quite ring wise for her age. It was a joy to award her first place in this class and the Best Puppy.

BEST PUPPY.

2. TRIPLE H WHAT GOES AROUND (Ch Calloway Memories Of Cinonnie x Triple H Knight Brew) Breeder/Owner: Deborah G Cox. Another red and white puppy showing

good breed type, very similar qualities to the

winner of the class. The difference today; I would have liked just a bit more length through the body. Her outline might have been hidden by her puppy antics on the day. (it was a very busy arena with dock diving not far from our ring). A lot of promise here once she learns her job.

3. RIVERSIDE NEVER STOP BELIEVE’N (Ch Riverside Keep Believe’N x Ch Riverside When You Believe II) Owner: Deborah Shindle. Breeder: Deborah B Shindle & Tonya Jordan. . At the moment, this very young puppy is smaller and finer boned then I prefer. I would also like to see more length through the body to fit the 40 % longer then tall requirement. She was very attentive to her handler. She certainly could lengthen. If she does, there are enough virtues to make her competitive in the long run.

4. NORTHRUN THE SOUTHERN CROSS (Trehilyn Dont Hold Back x GCH Northrun Small Craft Warning) Breeder/Owner: Cathy Donovan. Another very young puppy needing more time to mature and become accustom to the commotion at a dog show. It isn’t really

fair for me to write a critique until she is more comfortable with the whole process and capable of showing me her best.

PUPPY BITCHES, 9 TO 12 MONTHS (4 Entered, 0 Absent)1. LIONHART’S THAT’S HOW IT’S DONE

AT STERLING (Ch Foxwood Lionhart Alada Finn-Esse x GCH Lionhart’s Cameo Appearance) Owner: Kara Janiszak & Daniel Hartman. Breeder: Daniel Hartman & Debbie Royster & Judy A Manley & Kara Janiszak. A pretty red and white bitch with a pleasing head and nicely put together front. She displayed good bone and correct feet and correct length to her well-proportioned body. She moved soundly in all directions

2. XIII MAPLES STAR BRIGHT (GCHS Corwinn Incredible Dash x Ch Readfield & XIII Maples Sundance) Owner: Ellen C Childs. Breeder: Ellen Childs & Marianne Read. Very similar in many ways to the class winner, perhaps a little finer boned, certainly a quality bitch in every respect. She has a lovely outline, level topline, and moved confidently around the ring. One to watch as she grows on.

3. WINDDANCER AYLESFORD CONSTANT READER (Ch WindDancer Royale High Card x Aylesford Primary Sensation @ WindDancer) Breeder/Owner: Mary DeToma. Correct front on this tri girl with a pleasing head and expression. She carries good bone down to her well-shaped feet. Proper body proportions. Unfortunately, her topline was not level on the day.

4. CAJUN CREEKS HOT CHICK (GCHP Riverside Xtra Style x Cajun Creek’s Calm Before The Storm. Owner: Sean Michael Boyle & Dorothy Clare Gilreath. Breeder: Wayne Lanza Jr & Giulia Luzzana & Patricia Panzarella & Junior McDaniel. Long and low with a lovely length of neck. Not holding a level topline and appearing unsettled by her surroundings today

BITCHES, 12 TO 18 MONTHS (2 Entered, 0 Absent) (the toughest class of the day)1. COVENTRY BOMBSHELL (GCH

Martindale Black Bart x GCHP Coventry Just A Little Crush) Owner: Elizabeth Sessions & Bill Shelton & Beckie Williams. Breeder: Shelton & Williams & Leyerly & Johnson. This ultra-feminine bitch walked into the ring and took my breath away with her exquisite breed type, excellent balance and proportions. Every inch of her a show girl. Presented in sheer perfection and maintaining her composure throughout. A smaller overall package than the second place bitch, yet both displayed the proper outline for their size. The class winner simply never put a foot wrong. As I looked at her standing the words moderate, balanced and elegant came to mind. It wasn’t an easy decision, as the other bitch was stunning as well. I worked them quite a bit before choosing. In the end, this bitch’s focus, in an arena that at times felt like a circus, is what tipped the scale in her favor. I was pleased to award her first place and then WB and BOW.

WINNERS BITCH, BEST OF WINNERS.

2. AUBREY’S GO FOR THE GOLD (GCHS Nchanted Concerto x GCHG Aubrey’s Moon River) Breeder/Owner: Cynthia M Savioli & Vincent Savioli. Difficult choices are the ones that make you dig deep, two beautiful bitches stood before me, both oozing breed type. They had differences; this bitch is bigger and therefore longer and definitely a fantastic example of our breed standard. In my opinion, if pushed to split hairs, this bitch was probably the better mover of the two. Yet when it came

down to the finer points, the eye shape of the class winner and her focus gave her the edge.

I was very happy to award this bitch RWB.

RESERVE WINNERS BITCH.

BITCHES, BRED BY EXHIBITOR (7 Entered, 2 Absent)1. XIV KARAT COME SAIL AWAY WITH

ME TO BRIGADOON (Ch (Byendebrok Tiddlywinks x Ch XIV Karat Cook’N Up Something Special At Brigadoon) Owner: Willys Treanor & Sherri Hurst. Breeder: Sherri Hurst & Betty M Cook. A lovely bitch with balance, level topline and a gorgeous correct head, ample bone and proper proportions who moved well coming and going and from the side. BEST BRED BY EXHIBITOR.

2. SASSAPINE SHINE YOUR LIGHT (GCH Linincorgi Livin’ On A Prayer x GCH Sassapine New Light) Breeders/Owners: Amy Caple & Marjorie Wilmarth. A nice bitch slightly higher on leg then than the class winner, good head proportion. Eyes slightly rounder than ideal. Her topline was off today

3. KESTREL LEFTBANK PARTY GIRL (Ch Kestrel Leftbank Victory x Ch Leftbank Kestrel Where’s The Party) Breeders/Owners: Ann Caterson & Lynne Bloor Wolfe. One of the younger bitches in the class, this red and white was nicely proportioned with a good height to length ratio, finer boned and more restricted in movement than the two that placed higher.

4. NORTHRUN LEEWARD (Ch Sandfox Eweknow Eclipse Of The Heart x Northrun By The Lee) Breeder/Owner: Cathy Donovan. I liked the head on this bitch, she had a good length to height ratio, good bone, and correct foot shape. I would have preferred a firmer

topline and less dropping off at the croup when she moved.

BITCHES, OPEN (6 Entered, 3 Absent)1. SASSAPINE GOODNESS & LIGHT

(GCH Linincorgi Livin’ On A Prayer x GCH Sassapine New Light) Breeders/Owners: Amy Caple & Marjorie Wilmarth. A red and white bitch with proper length to height ratio, balanced angles front and rear and a level firm topline. Lovely easy movement as she went around the ring.

2. THE GOODBOY EARLY BIRD (GCH The Goodboy Beyond Fame x Ch Aubrey Tenbay Rock & Roll Fantasy) Owner: Dong-Seok Yoo & Cynthia Savioli. Breeder: Dong-Seok Yoo. A tri bitch very similar to the class winner in head type and length, though she was a bit higher on leg the balance was still evident, she had a lovely turn of stifle

3. KEELMTN SOTTO VOCE (GCHS Nchanted Concerto x GCH KeelMtn Bless Your Heart CAA BCAT CGC).Breeder/Owner: Leslie Gene Reed. This lightly sabled girl was presented well, has good length to height proportions. Could use a firmer more level topline.

DOGS, VETERAN 7 YEARS and OVER (1 Entered, 1Absent)

BITCHES, VETERAN 7 YEARS and OVER (1 Entered, 0 Absent)1. GCHP RIVERSIDE GET OVER IT (Ch

Aberlee Phantom Sequence x GCH Riverside Wicked Wonderful) Owner: Deborah Shindle & Victor Malzoni. Breeder: Deborah Shindle & Tonya Jordan. Still correct, still full of breed type and in great condition. This beautiful veteran is still highly competitive which earned her the first AOM.

BEST VETERAN, AWARD OF MERIT.

~BEST OF BREED

GCHG AUBREY’S MOON RIVER (GCH Heartsong Brynlea Pavarotti x Ch

Aubrey’s From This Moment) Bitch. Owner: Cynthia M Savioli & Vincent Savioli. Breeder: Cynthia M Savioli & Vincent Savioli & Roberta Lord. So much has been written about the breed type and exquisite quality of this bitch, all of it very well deserved, all I can tell you that she still has it! Today, what impressed me most was her ability to take control of the ring and capturing my complete attention. On the day in a ring with several beautiful exhibits, she was without equal. It was my great pleasure to award her BOB.

SWEEPSTAKES

I want to thank the Sunshine State Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club for the opportunity to leave Wisconsin in December and judge at your specialty show. I would like to thank your show chair, Lesley Hammar and Dianne Tharp for hosting us and caring for us; the site of this show is outstanding—held in conjunction with Royal Canin’s National Championship Show, it is a huge spacious, dog friendly venue. I enjoyed my assignment and getting to spend time with Donna Gilbert and Neal. I was thrilled with my winners, they are lovely representatives of this breed and should continue to do some nice winning. Thank you again for having me judge at your specialty show and wish-ing you continued success.

~Janet Bodin, (Peri Lane)

PUPPY DOGS, 6 TO 9 MONTHS (4 Entered, 0 Absent)1. AUBREY’S AN IRISH LULLABY (GCHS

Nchanted Concerto x Ch Aubrey Tenbay Rock & Roll All Night On Broadway) Owner: Cynthia M Savioli & Vincent Savioli & Roberta Lord. Breeder: Peggy Kucipak & Cynthia M Savioli & Vincent Savioli & Roberta Lord. A red and white male with a correct dark eye and a good head; he has a lovely reach of neck that flows into a level topline which is nice to see at this age, good bone for his size and correct feet; a dog that is clean on the move and shown in good coat and condition. Well handled.

2. RIVERSIDE ORANGE DELIGHT (GCHB Riverside Captain Orange x GCH Riverside Get’N Fancy At Lerouge) Owner: Deborah Shindle. Breeder: Darnell Jones & Deborah Shindle. I preferred the headpiece on this red and white male on the day; again a nice dark eye, a bit soft in topline at this stage, he carried good bone and a correct shaped foot, a clean mover as well.

3. HERONSWAY RUN FOR THE ROSES AT HICKORY TAVERN (GCHS NChanted Concerto x Ch Heronsway Younger Than Springtime) Owner: Judy Descutner & Anne H Bowes. Breeder: Anne H Bowes. This puppy has a very correct shaped head and pretty expression; would like to see more angle in the front; he held a level topline and was an adequate mover.

4. RIVERSIDE ORANGE CRUSH (GCHB Riverside Captain Orange x GCH Riverside Get’N Fancy At Lerouge) Owner: Deborah Shindle. Breeder: Darnell Jones & Deborah Shindle. This red and white boy would rather have been doing something else, but he improved the longer he was in the ring; at this age he doesn’t carry the length of those above him, but held a level topline and was good on the move.

PUPPY DOGS, 9 TO 12 MONTHS (1 Entered, 0 Absent)1. SUA MAH KERED ON A QUEST (GCH

Rosewood Sea Quest x Sua Mah Normandy) Breeders/Owners: Judy A Hart & Gail Steinmetz. This dark red and white boy had very good bone and substance; he had a very nice shoulder with a good reach of neck. He was a very nice, clean moving boy; a larger

ear on this male to give him the correct head proportions would finish off his look very nicely, he was a well-made boy and handled nicely. Sound and easy on the move.

PUPPY DOGS, 12 TO 15 MONTHS (2 Entered, 0 Absent)1. RIVERSIDE ME’N MY SHADOW (GCH

Tara Long Story Short x Ch Riverside Don’T Leave Me) Owner: Deborah S Broussard & Deborah B Shindle. Breeder: Deborah B Shindle. A very sweet expression on this red/headed tri male with good head proportions. He had a level topline and carries good bone with correct shaped feet. He was an adequate mover.

2. SGF WORTH THE WAIT (Ch Milkywey’s Get Ready To Rumble x Milkywey’s Free-N-Easy) Owner: Sandra L Johnson & Beth Stewart. Breeder: Beth A Stewart & Sandra L Johnson. This red headed tri male was a much longer dog in outline than #1, stacking he gives a pretty outline. At this age he had very soft pasterns which didn’t help the shape of his feet; he was an adequate mover.

PUPPY DOGS, 15 TO 18 MONTHS (1 Entered, 0 Absent)1. TRIPLE H BECHANCI STRIKE UP THE

BAND (Ch Talkabout Loving The Knight Away x Ch Lin-Kel Nanteos Eirian) Breeders/Owners: Deborah G Cox & Cheryl A Owens.

A stunning black headed tri male with the correct moderately long outline. Very pretty expression; correct shaped head and ear that was in a lovely coat and great condition. He had good bone for his size, a lovely reach of neck into a firm topline and was very clean on the move. I really liked this male and was happy to watch him go Winners Dog the next day at the specialty. He was my Best of Opposite Sex in Sweepstakes and I congratulate his breeders/owners. He was very well handled.

BEST OF OPPOSITE SEX

PUPPY BITCHES, 6 TO 9 MONTHS (4 Entered, 0 Absent)1. SANDFOX GOLDEN SYLPH (GCH

Sandfox Golden Whistler x GCH Sandfox Chance Encounter At Perivale) Owner: Vicki Sandage DVM. Breeder: Vicki Sandage DVM & Feli Noeller DVM. A very pretty outline

on this red and white girl; a correct head with a good reach of neck flowing into a level topline. She has good bone and a correct shaped foot; well up to size for her age, but a quality girl that you could not miss, handled very well and a sound mover.

2. TRIPLE H WHAT GOES AROUND (Ch Calloway Memories Of Cinonnie x Triple H Knight Brew) Breeder/Owner: Deborah G Cox. This red and white girl has a very correct balanced outline; pretty headpiece and good reach of neck, a firm topline with beautiful bone and front to rear angles. She was in good coat and condition and pushed the number one girl hard.

Judges Selection Report

December 2017 11www.sunshinepwcc.com

At the time of this writing, Sunshine PWCC has successfully closed out the 2017 year with a great specialty and agility trial. I would like to thank ALL the club members who came to the events and pitched in the help. Without those people we as a club would not exist. If you would like to volunteer for either the specialty or the agility trial please reach out to a board member and we will get you to the show chairs and find you a job. If you cannot volunteer, we gladly accept donations that help with trophies, meals and worker raffles. Look for the information on your dues notice that will go out in a few months.

Thank you to the board members for the tireless hours you give to the the club. We all have busy schedules and you help make this club better with your input and efforts. Each one of you add create ideas and guidance, for that I am thankful and feel very supported in my roll as president knowing we all have the breed in our best interests.

Please be sure to read the interesting article by Al Gapsch about what you can do for your club, and how to be a better club member. My mind keeps going to popular phrase that I am changing a few words that better apply; “ask not what your club can do for you but what you can do for your club”!

I look forward to seeing many of you at our next meeting in Elkton Saturday April 7, 2018 - 30 minutes after corgi judging. We will take nominations from the floor for our 2018/2019 Elections. Our program will be “Show Grooming Tips” by Deb Shindle. Corgi-aly,Lesley HammarSPWCC President [email protected]

President’s Message

Dedicated, active club members are the essential element in the success of any club. Ways you can help by Al Gapsch.

A GOOD Club Member:• Attends meeting regularly. No one has the right to

"grumble" if not in attendance.• Communicates. Stand up and make your voice

heard. More than one club has been saved from an unwise decision by the voice of one individual.

• Conserves the club's financial resources. Keep expenses under control. Many worthwhile clubs have disbanded because of waste or mismanagement of funds.

• Encourages others. Don't be a wet blanket, "a person or thing that quenches or dampens enthusiasm, pleasure or the like."

• Fulfills the duties of membership. Be willing to fulfill responsibilities as well as exercise rights.

• Gives credit where credit is due. Don't be a "credit grabber" - one who is always first in line when it comes to taking a bow, but nowhere to be seen in the midst of responsibility. Don't hesitate to praise fellow member for a job well done.

• Has/Keeps a sense of humor. Don't take yourself too seriously or others not seriously enough.

• Is personally involved. Try to inject a warm

personal note in club work. Blend gentleness with firmness when taking a stand.

• Keeps the purpose of the club in mind. If certain goals or methods appear to be outmoded, take the necessary steps to update them.

• Prepares for each meeting. Be prepared for meetings, a lack of preparation is one of the main reasons for unproductive meetings.

• Promotes a spirit of teamwork. Don't let your club be crippled by a membership that splinters into uncooperative or hostile cliques.

• Resolves differences. Be a peacemaker - when misunderstandings, disputes and clashes arise, help to clear the air by trying to reach a peaceful accord.

• Respects ALL club members. Give other appreciation and cooperation.

• Thinks for themselves. Take the effort to be a thinker instead of a perennial "yes" member

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO MAKE SUNSHINE PWCC A STONGER, MORE INDUSTRIOUS CLUB?

Tim Mathiesen, Cotati, CA “Nebriowa”As an avid animal lover (especially dogs) I had owned several purebred dogs before discovering Pembroke Welsh Corgis. The first Nebriowa corgi, Halmor Bonny Bess came from Roy and Eileen Pimlott in 1963 and was to be the dam of my first homebred champions. Since that time there have been many champions, specialty and best in show winners bred here. Recently the 118th homebred Nebriowa Pembroke champion finished and another Nebriowa bred corgi has been added to the ROM list bringing the total to seven with eight more on the ROMX list plus others bought in on the lists. I have also finished several champions bought in including Cardigans and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels as well as several homebred champions in these breeds. I have had the honor of judging most of the Pembroke specialties in the U.S. including dogs and the breed at the National in 1995,

bitches at the National in 2007 and dogs and the breed again in 2014. In addition I have judged the breed at championship level in Canada, Australia (3 times), New Zealand, Japan, England, South Africa, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Holland. The most recent overseas assignment was the specialty in Melbourne Australia. I judged bitches at the Welsh Corgi League Championship show in England in 2006 and the breed at Crufts championship dog show in England in 2012.

This is the board’s selection for the membership to vote on for our 2020 Specialty.

You will be receiving a ballot by email or USPS. Please let me know if you do not receive one. It must

be returned by March 1, 2018 to be counted.Thank you,

Sunshine Corgi Rescue

GREETINGS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR to the Sunshine Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club

I am Joe Cavanaugh and very honored that the Sunshine Corgi Rescue Board recently appointed me as its new Rescue Coordinator. My wife Cyndi and I live in Riverview, just south of Tampa. I’m an accountant for Foundation Partners and have the benefit of working from a home office, which gives me some greater flexibility in addressing the needs of SCR. Cyndi works for a large management consulting firm as an event coordinator. Her background in marketing and public relations is going to be tapped into to help us increase our visibility and strengthen our messaging.

We adopted Walker (my second Corgi) through Sunshine Corgi just over two years ago and decided at that time we wanted to do whatever we could to give back to the organization.

Shortly after adopting Walker, I started working closely with Jeff Mullen, previous Rescue Coordinator, processing applications. He generously shared his wealth of knowledge of the organization with me on a near-daily basis. When he discussed the possibility of taking on his position, it seemed like an opportunity to contribute in a truly meaningful way.

One of my priorities is to connect regularly with all of our Sunshine Corgis Rescue volunteers. I am equally interested in reaching out to members of the SPWCC and

look to forward to hearing from you and meeting many of you over the coming months.

The biggest need to be addressed right now is looking for foster families to provide temporary homes for Corgis surrendered to Sunshine Corgi Rescue.

Foster families provide a home for a minimum of two weeks, using that time to provide for the dog’s immediate health needs (taking the dog to a vet for a check-up, which we will pay for) and evaluate his or her behaviors, prior to adoption. Families are encouraged to socialize the dogs during this time, observe how they relate to other dogs, as well as observe their food behaviors, relationship with children, and strangers, and to gain an understanding of their energy levels. Our adoption coordinator uses the report prepared by the foster family to filter our list of nearly 300 families waiting to adopt to find just the right family for each rescued dog.

Foster families play such an important part in this adoption journey, providing a haven during a stressful time for our surrendered dogs and gathering important information that ensures thoughtful consideration is taken when finding a “forever home” for each dog. The time with these dogs may be brief, but the impact will be lasting.

I am hopeful that fostering for SCR sounds like a volunteer opportunity of interest to some of you. We can use your help! If you would like to learn more or would like to fill out an volunteer application, please contact me at [email protected].

Thanks,

Joe CavanaughRescue CoordinatorSunshine Corgi Rescue

We will hold an all-breed Obedience A match with Treasure Coast and a breed only Obed A match for SPWCC. We will review and revamp our constitution and by-laws. See Debbie Gapsch if you would like to work on this project.
