BUILD A CORPORATE TEAM

LET’S GET STARTED:

SCHEDULE a one-on-one call or meeting with the SunriseWALKS Regional Director to begin planning your campaign strategy and fundraising goals.

SELECT your Team Captain(s) and start a Sunrise Committee to spearhead campaign planning and identify ways to motivate your workforce to get involved. • Plan staff incentives. • Determine what in-office or external events your staff would want to participate in and build your campaign calendar.

REGISTER your Corporate Team at sunrise-walks.org/longisland and set your team fundraising goal. It costs $6,000 to send one child to camp for the full summer. When setting your goal, consider how many children you would like to send to camp.

WORK with SunriseWALKS staff to host a team kick-off meeting. • Introduce Team Captain(s) and Sunrise Committee members. • Play the SunriseWALKS video or arrange for a Sunrise staff member or parent to speak. • Encourage staff to join your team with their friends and family, and set their own individual fundraising goals.

SPREAD AWARENESS about your participation in SunriseWALKS on your company and personal social media platforms, community boards, email signature, and newsletters. Include instructions how they can join or donate to your team.

RECOGNIZE individual and company-wide victories along the way. Make sure to keep the momentum going!

CELEBRATE your hard work on the day of the WALK! Consider using the event as a team-building experience, or company and family outing.

Motivate staff to join your efforts and keep them engaged throughout the campaign with some of these fun and meaningful incentives. As you read through these ideas, consider your office culture and identify which will work best for your company.

PROMOTE FRIENDLY COMPETITION: Consider breaking your staff into smaller teams and challenging them with specific fundraising goals. This will promote team-building and leadership in your office.

OFFER INCENTIVE PRIZES: Create incentives that are enticing for all members of your staff. For example, offer prizes for the employee who brings in the most money AND for the employee who recruits the most team members. Be mindful that not everyone will have the same access or reach. INCENTIVE IDEAS: • Paid Time Off • Summer Friday Half Days • Prime Parking Spot • Dress Down Day • Sports or Theatre Tickets • Cash Prizes, Gift Cards, or Trips

CELEBRATE SMALL SUCCESSES ALONG THE WAY: Remember to celebrate milestones, large and small. A little bit of recognition goes a long way. • Praise team members who reach and exceed their fundraising goals. • Send “shout outs” to acknowledge team captains and active team members. • Host team celebrations to keep employees motivated and engaged. INCLUDE FAMILIES: The WALK is a family-friendly event, so encourage your staff to invite their families to join your team. Use this event as an opportunity for your employees to get to know each other outside of the office. Consider paying registration fees for staff and immediate family members.

A campaign calendar is designed to keep SunriseWALKS a part of your company culture and on the mind of your team members throughout the course of your campaign. Create a calendar with a mix of small, engaging activities in your office and larger external Do-It-Yourself (DIY) fundraising events. Consider adding variety to your events to engage as many individuals as possible.

Below is a sample calendar of a 2019 Corporate Team: FLW Walks for Sunrise. Frenkel Lambert Weiss Weisman & Gordon, LLC is a Law Firm in located in Suffolk County, and was first introduced to Sunrise in 2019 by one of our chair families. You, your team, or your in-house SunriseWALKS committee can use this timeline as a guide when building your own campaign!

FEBRUARY• Attended Corporate Breakfast to learn about Sunrise• Scheduled meeting with SunriseWALKS Staff at Law Firm• Planned Campaign Calendar and Incentives

MARCH • Registered Team FLW Walks for Sunrise• Took a $3,000 Silver Sponsorship• Requested and received custom flyer to advertise participation in SunriseWALKS internally and to networks• Planned DIY event- “Sips for Sunrise” and secured raffle prizes from local community

APRIL• Hosted in-office cookie bake sale, “Sweets for Sunrise:” $175• Requested Custom Flyer from Sunrise staff to advertise upcomming DIY event

MAY• Held “Sips for Sunrise,” a silent auction & raffle event, and invited friends, family, and staff: $6,595

JUNE• Attended and celebrated with team at SunriseWALKS event! • Total Raised: $22,484 • Total Walkers: 156• Debrief and send notes/ideas to SunriseWALKS Staff to begin planning for next year

DIY Fundraising Events are a great way to raise money and spread awareness for your organization’s involvement with SunriseWALKS. You can host events ranging from networking happy hours to fitness classes and everything in between. These events can be company wide or hosted by an individual team member. SET A GOAL: Make fundraising goals attainable, but challenging. Many Corporate Teams set a goal of $6,000–the cost to send one child to camp for the entire summer.

DESIGN: Decide what type of event you will have (fitness, cooking, networking, etc.) Select a venue, date and time, and realistic fundraising goal.

BUDGET: If charging for admission, base the ticket price on event expenses. For example, if it costs $200 to rent the venue, make sure to charge attendees enough to cover this expense while still raising money for your team.

INVITE: Consider your audience and outreach methods. How will you invite people to your event? Promote using social media, e-invite, or in person. SunrsieWALKS staff will customize a flyer to help promote your event and set up an online ticketing site to collect donations and RSVPs.

PROGRAM: Plan your event to make it fun and memorable for your attendees. Think about adding raffles, guest speakers, food, and decor. Make sure to promote the walk at your event- disperse flyers or informational cards to your attendees to join your walk team and continue to be a part of Sunrise.

DIY EVENT IDEAS: • Sips for Sunrise: Networking cocktail party or happy hour • Sweat for Sunrise: Fitness class with raffles • Ready, Set, Play: Afternoon of cards, lunch, raffles and shopping • Restaurant or retail campaign (Ex: Chipotle, Panera, Denny’s...etc.) • Special Occasions (Birthday, Anniversary, or Tribute to)
