Do You Want to Know a Secret? By Donna Weeks

but, speaking from experience, I be-lieve I might have figured it out.

Teaching Sunday School is fun. Can you imagine telling the marvelous and exciting stories of the Bible to eager learners, singing with those who love to sing out loud and move with the music, playing mystery games, and drawing with sparkly paint markers? What we often see in our classes is children hav-ing a wonderful time. Look at little clos-er, and you’ll also see a happy teacher having just as much fun as any child.

Teaching Sunday School is easy. When Jesus told us to “Go and make disciples of all nations,” He did not give us this commandment and then leave us to do it all by ourselves. The Holy Spirit is the greatest teacher resource. He shows us not only what to teach, but also how to teach. Whether we are

The buses and traffic on the roads remind us that school is back in ses-sion. Much like it does in our schools, September brings the start of a new Sunday School year in the church. Teachers share in the ex-citement as they look through the church’s new curriculum and make plans for the lessons and projects that will follow.

Although the materials are new, the story is not new. It’s an old, old story that never wears out.

But have you ever wondered why there are a few old Sunday School teachers still around who have also not worn out—yet? Why do they stick with it year after year? I believe it’s because they know a secret that they have kept well-hidden. No one has ever told me what that secret is

preparing lessons at home or buying materials at the dollar store, the ideas we need come to us from Him. It is never difficult, because His yoke is easy and His burden is light.

There is much more that could be said about the rewarding experiences of being a Sunday School teacher, of hav-ing a small part in training up a child in the way he should go. But it might be well to save that for later.

You know enough now to decide just how much longer you want to miss out on the excitement. Substituting is a great way to try it. Be listening for the announcement of the substitute teacher training session that will be offered soon.

Meanwhile, just so you won’t get the wrong idea, I’ll still be teaching for a quite a while. Wouldn’t miss it for any-thing—I’m having too much fun.

out for nourishment? Sunday is not enough. Nourish and nurture

your own spiritual life and be a good example for your family by

reading the bible daily. Praise be to God for this daily bread!

Contagious Wisdom

At the outset of his reign as Israel’s third king, Solo-

mon saw the Lord in a dream. God invited Solomon to

request anything he wanted. What did Solomon ask

for? A. understanding B. long life C. riches D. victory

Answer: (See 1 Kings 3:4-14.)

Shift your prayer life from “Please, God” to “Please

God.” Take the comma out of those two words when

you pray, and transition your praying from asking God

for things to asking God for the pleasure of God’s

pleasure. —Homiletics
