More information about requirements can be found at www.sunflowersupreme.org.

All heifers that are consigned to this sale have met strict guidelines in regards to health and reproductive care. All heifers come with documents supporting their management and have been 3rd party verified by K-State Research and Extension personnel. An overview of minimal requirements that all heifers have met are described below:

HEALTH- BVD-PI negative test- Bangs vaccination- Weaning and booster vaccination against IBR, BVD (Type I and II), PI-3, BRSV, Leptospirosis, and Vibriosis- Pre-breeding vaccination against BVD, IBR, Leptospirosis, and Vibriosis- Pregnancy exam vaccination against LeptospirosisAll heifers were treated for internal and external parasites 30 to 45 days prior to sale

PRE-BREEDING EXAMHeifers were checked by veterinarians to determine normal pelvic shape and reproductive tract. Heifers had a minimum of 150 cm sq pelvic area.Heifers were confirmed pregnant 30-45 days prior to sale.

SIRE USAGE AND BREEDINGAll sires used to breed Sunflower Supreme heifers are registered with a known breed association and were approved prior to use based on criteria described online and with educational packets. To summarize, for each breed classification minimal cutoff values for the Calving Ease EPD were determined based on percentile ranks within each respective breed association. If that breed does not have a Calving Ease EPD then Birth Weight EPD was used and a maximum value was determined, once again by percentile ranks.

Active Sire Percentile Rank RequirementsAmerican: Upper 20%

British: Upper 30%Continental: Upper 15%

Hybrid: Upper 20%

All heifers bred by AI have a minimum accuracy of 0.60 for Calving Ease or Birth Weight EPD. All sires, AI or natural service, must have met EPD requirements prior to use on heifers. Maximal breeding season is 60 days, with the requirement that the AI confirmed heifers must have a 14-day gap between AI date and beginning natural service date.

LIABILITYAll persons who attend this sale do so at their own risk, legal or otherwise, for their own safety or for the behavior of the animals. The owners, sale barn owners and staff, sale managers or partners, etc. assume no liability for property loss or any accident that may occur.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATIONA supplement sheet will be available sale day with any changes or updated information. Announcements from the auction block regarding the cattle selling in this sale take precedence over information listed in this catalog.

FOLLOW UPA survey will be sent to buyers within the year to capture heifer performance information. The survey will help in developing future direction and guideline requirements for the program in order to continually improve the product.

Greetings, Thank you for your continued support of the Sunflower Supreme Bred Heifer sale. We are proud to continue partnering together on this program and are confident it will result in long-term improvement to the beef cattle industry, will help Kansas cattlemen improve their herds, and will add value to the state’s cattle industry, the largest sector of Kansas agriculture. In the last two years, the beef cattle industry has experienced extreme volatility in the marketplace – from historic prices throughout 2014 to large price swings in 2015. While individual producers cannot control what happens in the marketplace, they can take steps on their operations to add value to their herd by improving reproductive management protocols and replacement heifer selection strategies. We are proud to say the Sunflower Supreme Bred Heifer Program is helping in cattlemen adopt these proven management tools and is becoming a recognized brand for high quality replacement heifers in Kansas and beyond. In its inaugural year, 33 ranches enrolled approximately 1,000 heifers in the program. Of those, more than 750 sold either through the Sunflower Supreme Bred Heifer Sale or through other auctions and sales throughout the year. By participating in the program and focusing on improving reproductive efficiencies, these 33 ranches not only took steps to increase their individual potential for profitability but they also helped add value to the overall Kansas beef cattle herd. With strong enrollment numbers in year 2, we are confident you will find high-quality replacement heifers in this year’s sale. The beef industry in Kansas is critical to our state’s overall economy, contributing more than $11.8 billion and supporting more than 48,400 jobs. Programs like the Sunflower Supreme Bred Heifer program provide cattlemen with the tools to add additional value to their animals through improved reproductive management tools and increase the overall quality and value of the Kansas herd. Kansas is a recognized global leader in the beef cattle sector – for the outstanding genetics and high-quality beef products. We are proud to work with Kansas cattlemen and our partners throughout the industry on this program and all endeavors to help grow and promote the Kansas beef industry.

Sincerely, Jackie McClaskey Daryl Buchholz Kansas Secretary of Agriculture Associate Director, K-State Research and Extension

PECK BROTHERS CATTLE CO.- ERIE, KS

These heifers are 100% home raised on our ranch. They are 50% Red Angus and Charolais cross and 50% Black Angus and Charolais Cross. We started out with 83 heifers and we culled down to 81 of the best heifers. We did not keep any heifers for ourselves. The Red Angus Cross heifers source back to the Wagon Hound Ranch at Douglas, Wyoming. A truly outstanding Red Angus Ranch. The Black Angus Cross heifers source back to a set of cows that we purchased 12 years ago from the Padlock Ranch in Wyoming and Montana. We have bred these heifers to low birth weight bulls from McCabe Genetics and have had excellent results in the past 3 or 4 years using their bulls. We are proud to say that everyone we sold to last year has told us that their bred heifers got along very well.

Withdrawal Periods and Residue WarningsAnimals intended for human consumption must not be slaughtered within 48 days of the last treatment. This drug product is not approved for use in female dairy cattle 20 months of age or older, including dry dairy cows. Environmental HazardsNot for use in cattle managed in feedlots or under intensive rotational grazing because the environmental impact has not been evaluated for these scenarios.Other Warnings: Underdosing and/or subtherapeutic concentrations of extended-release anthelmintic products may encourage the development of parasite resistance.
