Former Sunderland footballer Gary Bennett has spoken of his pride over hisdaughter's Brit award nomination.

His daughter Janee, more commonly known in the industry as Jin Jin, is nominatedfor Best British Single alongside the likes of Adele, Ellie Goulding, Calvin Harris andYears and Years.

The English singer songwriter from Stockport co-wrote the Jess Glynne single HoldMy Hand, which reached No 1 in the UK charts in March 2015.

Her father, Gary, made 442 appearances for Sunderland in an 11 year career onWearside, and also played for Cardiff and Carlisle

At the end of his playing career he took on a single job in management in charge ofDarlington between 2000 and 2001.

He now works as a radio pundit, regularly commentating on Sunderland games.

Speaking in the Sunderland Echo, the former defender said, 'It's a great privilege forher just to be nominated and this is her profession, it's what she does.'

Jin Jin, who has also worked alongside Little Mix, Tinie Tempah, David Guetta andRihanna, admitted it felt 'surreal' to be nominated.

'I've done this for years and I've never really been nominated for anything before.

'It just feels so surreal, it was like 'Oh my gosh' that's amazing.

'I've watched the Brit awards for years and it was an event I've always wanted to goto, but I never imagined I would be going as someone who has been nominated foran award.'
