October Is the Month of the Holy Rosary

October Rosary Pearl of the Month: The Rosary for Our Problems

In times of stress from heavy burdens and what seem to be overwhelming problems, we may be tempted to give up on prayer. Our minds, too absorbed in the challenges of the day, fail to quiet ourselves and focus on prayer. However, these are the times that we most need to pray, particularly the Rosary.

We should remember Mary’s Promises of the Rosary, particularly the 6th Promise, that “Those who pray the Rosary with attention to the mysteries shall never be conquered by misfortune.” As difficult as they may seem, all problems can be solved through the Rosary.

Servant of God Lucia, the eldest visionary of Fatima, encouraged our faith and trust in the Rosary for our most difficult problems. She said,

“The Most Holy Virgin in these last times in which we live has given a new efficacy to the recitation of the Rosary to such an extent that there is no problem, no matter how difficult it is, whether temporal or above all, spiritual, in the personal life of each one of us, of our families, of the families of the world, or of the religious communities, or even of the life of peoples and nations, that cannot be solved by the Rosary.” - True Story of Fatima by Fr. John DeMarchi

Trust in Blessed Mother’s words. Take a break from your problems, turn your attention toward Our Lady, and pray the Rosary.

“Humanity Will Not Find Peace UntilIt Turns Trustfully to Divine Mercy.”

- Jesus’ words to St. Faustina

Trust and mercy form the dominant theme of His messages to St. Faustina.

One of 10 children born into a pious family in the heartland of Poland, St. Faustina had barely three years of schooling and left home at 14 to be a domestic. Yet she became one of the three great saints of Poland.

At age 20 she joined the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy. Jesus chose her as the “Secretary” of His Mercy. One of the practices He called for is the powerful Chaplet of Divine Mercy. Jesus told Faustina to pray it “unceasingly.”

St. Faustina’s diary, “Divine Mercy in My Soul,” has instructed millions in the total messages of Jesus’ revelations to this humble nun. St. Faustina prayed “Oh My Jesus, grant me the grace to be an obedient instrument in Your hands.”

Her feast day is October 5.

“Prayer goes where words and action cannot.” - St. Faustina

Through our prayers, sacrifices and fasting, let us be part of the solution to the problems in the Church

Bishop Thomas O’BrienIt was through the inspiration and blessing of Bishop O’Brien that the Radio Family Rosary began 34 years ago. Upon hearing of the

possibility of having the Rosary on the air, his response was, “Do it!” He immediately gave his blessing and supported it. On Sunday, August 26, he was called home, May his soul rest in peace.

All Saints DayAs the world celebrates Halloween, October 31, in secular ways, let us be mindful that this is the Eve of All Saints Day, November 1, a Holy Day of Obligation. A Great Intercessor for These Times of CrisisOn October 22, the Feast of St. John Paul II, let us thank God for this amazing Holy Father and seek John Paul’s intercession for our troubled and persecuted Church in our distressed world.

In 1978 Karol Wojtyla of Poland was elected the first non-Italian Pope in over six hundred years. He chose the name John Paul II and reigned for 27 years. He spoke nine languages, made 104 apostolic visits outside of Italy and was seen by more people than any other figure in history.

Among his many accomplishments, he promoted the new Catechism and established World Youth Day. His motto, Totus Tuus (Totally Yours), reflected his complete reliance on Our Lady. An Apostle of the Rosary, he added the Luminous Mysteries.

He had a gift of reaching the hearts of old and young. In 2000 he told young people “It is Jesus that you seek when you dream of happiness…He is waiting for you when nothing else you find satisfies you.”

John Paul II’s legacy finds its roots in the suffering of Poland at the hands of Nazi Germany and then the Soviet Union.

“St. John Paul II was a great witness to the Lord’s power to do what seems impossible.” – Magnifcat, October 2018.
