O God, the giver of every gift that endures, only by your grace can we rightly understand the wonder of life and why it is given.

By the word of your Son challenge our foolishness, confront our greed, and shape our lives to the wisdom of the gospel.

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,God forever and ever.

HYMN AT 9:15 AM

Hymn 550

I danced in the morning when the world was begun,I danced in the moonand the stars and the sun,and I came down from heavenand I danced on earth,at BethlehemI had my birth.

Dance, then, wherever you may be,I am the Lord of the Dance, said he,and I’ll lead you all, wherever you may be,and I’ll lead you all in the Dance, said he.

I danced for the scribeand the pharisee, but they would not dance

and they wouldn’t follow me;I danced for fishermen, for James and John -they came with me and the Dance went on:

Dance, then, wherever you may be,I am the Lord of the Dance, said he,and I’ll lead you all, wherever you may be,and I’ll lead you all in the Dance, said he.

I danced on the Sabbathand I cured the lame:the holy peoplesaid it was a shame. They whipped and they strippedand they hung me on high, and they left me there on a cross to die:

Dance, then, wherever you may be,I am the Lord of the Dance, said he,and I’ll lead you all, wherever you may be,and I’ll lead you all in the Dance, said he.

I danced on a Fridaywhen the sky turned black -it’s hard to dancewith the devil on your back. They buried my bodyand they thought I’d gone;but I am the Danceand I still go on:

Dance, then, wherever you may be,I am the Lord of the Dance, said he,and I’ll lead you all, wherever you may be,and I’ll lead you all in the Dance, said he.

They cut me downand I leapt up high;I am the lifethat’ll never, never die;

I’ll live in youif you’ll live in me -I am the Lordof the Dance, said he!

Dance, then, wherever you may be,I am the Lord of the Dance, said he,and I’ll lead you all, wherever you may be,and I’ll lead you all in the Dance, said he.

FIRST READING AT 7:00 AM

Hosea 11:1-11 When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son. The more I called them, the more they went from me; they kept sacrificing to the Baals, and offering incense to idols. Yet it was I who taught Ephraim to walk, I took them up in my arms; but they did not know that I healed them. I led them with cords of human kindness, with bands of love. I was to them like those who lift infants to their cheeks. I bent down to them and fed them. They shall return to the land of Egypt, and Assyria shall be their king, because they have refused to return to me. The sword rages in their cities, it consumes their oracle-priests, and devours because of their schemes. My people are bent on turning away from me. To the Most High they call, but he does not raise them up at all. How can I give you up, Ephraim? How can I hand you over, O Israel? How can I make you like Admah? How can I treat you like Zeboiim? My heart recoils within me; my compassion grows warm and tender. I will not execute my fierce anger; I will not again destroy Ephraim; for I am God and no mortal, the Holy One in your midst, and I will not come in wrath. They shall go after the LORD, who roars like a lion; when he roars, his children shall come trembling from the west. They shall come trembling like birds from Egypt, and like doves from the land of Assyria; and I will return them to their homes, says the LORD.

FIRST READING AT 9:15 AM

Exodus 6:2-13 God also spoke to Moses and said to him: "I am the LORD. I appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name 'The LORD' I did not make myself known to them. I also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land in which they resided as aliens. I have also heard the groaning of the Israelites whom the Egyptians are holding as slaves, and I have remembered my covenant. Say therefore to the Israelites, 'I am the LORD, and I will free you from the burdens of the Egyptians and deliver you from slavery to them. I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. I will take you as my

people, and I will be your God. You shall know that I am the LORD your God, who has freed you from the burdens of the Egyptians. I will bring you into the land that I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; I will give it to you for a possession. I am the LORD.'" Moses told this to the Israelites; but they would not listen to Moses, because of their broken spirit and their cruel slavery. Then the LORD spoke to Moses, "Go and tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the Israelites go out of his land." But Moses spoke to the LORD, "The Israelites have not listened to me; how then shall Pharaoh listen to me, poor speaker that I am?" Thus the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, and gave them orders regarding the Israelites and Pharaoh king of Egypt, charging them to free the Israelites from the land of Egypt.

PSALM AT 7:00 AM

Psalm 107:1-9,43 - BOCP

1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, * and his mercy endures for ever.

2 Let all those whom the LORD has redeemed proclaim * that he redeemed them from the hand of the foe.

3 He gathered them out of the lands; * from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south.

4 Some wandered in desert wastes; * they found no way to a city where they might dwell.

5 They were hungry and thirsty; * their spirits languished within them.

6 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, * and he delivered them from their distress.

7 He put their feet on a straight path * to go to a city where they might dwell.

8 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his mercy * and the wonders he does for his children.

9 For he satisfies the thirsty * and fills the hungry with good things.

43 Whoever is wise will ponder these things, * and consider well the mercies of the LORD.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son: and to the Holy Spirit; As it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be forever. Amen.

PSALM AT 9:15 AM

Psalm 78:19-30 - Parish Psalter

19. They tempted God in their hearts : and required meat for their lust.

20. They spake against God also, saying : Shall God prepare a table in the wilderness?

21. He smote the stony rock indeed, that the waters gushed out, and the streams flowed withal : but can he give bread also, or provide flesh for his people?

22. When the Lord heard this, he was wroth : so the fire was kindled in Jacob, and there came up heavy displeasure against Israel;

23. Because they believed not in God : and put not their trust in his help.

24. So he commanded the clouds above : and opened the doors of heaven.

25. He rained down manna also upon them for to eat : and gave them food from heaven.

26. So man did eat angels' food : for he sent them meat enough.

27. He caused the east-wind to blow under heaven : and through his power he brought in the south-west-wind.

28. He rained flesh upon them as thick as dust : and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea.

29. He let it fall among their tents : even round about their habitation.

30. So they did eat and were well filled, for he gave them their own desire : they were not disappointed of their lust.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son: and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be: world without end.

SECOND READING AT 7:00 AM

Colossians 3:1-11 So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth, for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory. Put to death, therefore, whatever in you is earthly: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry). On account of these the wrath of God is coming on those who are disobedient. These are the ways you also once followed, when you were living that life. But now you must get rid of all such things—anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive language from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have stripped off the old self with its practices and have clothed yourselves with the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge according to the image of its creator. In that renewal there is no longer Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and free; but Christ is all and in all!

SECOND READING AT 9:15 AM

Philemon 1:8-21 For this reason, though I am bold enough in Christ to command you to do your duty, yet I would rather appeal to you on the basis of love—and I, Paul, do this as an old man, and now also as a prisoner of Christ Jesus. I am appealing to you for my child, Onesimus, whose father I have become during my imprisonment. Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful both to you and to me. I am sending him, that is, my own heart, back to you. I wanted to keep him with me, so that he might be of service to me in your place during my imprisonment for the gospel; but I preferred to do nothing without your consent, in order that your good deed might be voluntary and not something forced. Perhaps this is the reason he was separated from you for a while, so that you might have him back forever, no longer as a slave but more than a slave, a

beloved brother—especially to me but how much more to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord. So if you consider me your partner, welcome him as you would welcome me. If he has wronged you in any way, or owes you anything, charge that to my account. I, Paul, am writing this with my own hand: I will repay it. I say nothing about your owing me even your own self. Yes, brother, let me have this benefit from you in the Lord! Refresh my heart in Christ. Confident of your obedience, I am writing to you, knowing that you will do even more than I say.

Gradual Hymn Omitted at 7:00AM

GRADUAL HYMN AT 9:15 AM

Hymn 548

When Israel was in Egypt’s land, let my people go;oppressed so hard they could not stand, let my people go.

Go down, Moses, way down in Egypt’s land;tell ole Pharaoh to let my people go.

The Lord told Moses what to do, let my people go;to lead the children of Israel through, let my people go.

Go down, Moses, way down in Egypt’s land;tell ole Pharaoh to let my people go.

They journeyed on at his command, let my people go;and came at length to Canaan’s land, let my people go.

Go down, Moses, way down in Egypt’s land;tell ole Pharaoh to let my people go.

Oh, let us all from bondage flee, let my people go;and let us all in Christ be free, let my people go.

Go down, Moses, way down in Egypt’s land;

tell ole Pharaoh to let my people go.

GOSPEL AT 7:00AM

Luke 12:13-21 Someone in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me." But he said to him, "Friend, who set me to be a judge or arbitrator over you?" And he said to them, "Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one's life does not consist in the abundance of possessions." Then he told them a parable: "The land of a rich man produced abundantly. And he thought to himself, 'What should I do, for I have no place to store my crops?' Then he said, 'I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.' But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life is being demanded of you. And the things you have prepared, whose will they be?' So it is with those who store up treasures for themselves but are not rich toward God."

GOSPEL AT 9:15 AM

Luke 4:16-19 When he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, he went to the synagogue on the sabbath day, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written: "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favour."

Emancipation Hymn – Deliverance is What God Gives

Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen or unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father. Through Him all things were made. For us and for our salvation He came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit He was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered, died and was buried. On the third day He rose again in fulfilment of the Scriptures; He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end.We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father. With the Father and the Son He is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.We look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.ALL: Amen.

OFFERTORY HYMNS AT 9:15 AM

Hymn 374

O praise our great and gracious Lord, and call upon his name; to strains of joy tune every chord, his mighty acts proclaim; tell how he led his chosen race to Canaan’s promised land; tell how his covenant of grace unchanged shall ever stand.

He gave the shadowing cloud by day, the moving fire by night;to guide his Israel on their way, he made their darkness light;and have not we a sure retreat, a Saviour ever nigh, the same clear light to guide our feet, the day-spring from on high?

We too have manna from above, the bread that came from heaven;to us the same kind hand of love hath living waters given;

a rock we have, from whence the spring in rich abundance flows;that rock is Christ, our Priest, our King, who life and health bestows.

O may we praise this blessed food, and trust our heavenly Guide; so shall we find death’s fearful flood serene as Jordan’s tide, and safely reach that happy shore, the land of peace and rest, where angels worship and adore in God’s own presence blest.

Hymn 376

O praise ye the Lord, O praise ye the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary: O praise ye the Lord! O praise ye the Lord! O praise ye the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary: O praise ye the Lord.

In the firmament of his power, praise him! For his might acts, let us praise him!For his excellent greatness, praise him! O praise ye the Lord.

O praise ye the Lord, O praise ye the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary: O praise ye the Lord! O praise ye the Lord! O praise ye the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary: O praise ye the Lord.

With the sound of the trumpet, praise him! With the psaltery and harp, O praise him! With the dance and the timbrel, praise him! O praise ye the Lord.

O praise ye the Lord, O praise ye the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary: O praise ye the Lord! O praise ye the Lord! O praise ye the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary: O praise ye the Lord.

With stringed instruments, let us praise him! And with organs, O let us praise him!

With the high and loud cymbals, praise him! O praise ye the Lord.

Holy and gracious Father, all creation rightly gives you praise. All life, all holiness, comes from you through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, whom you sent to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all.

We therefore bring you these gifts,

and we ask you to make them holy by the power of your Spirit, that they may become the Body and Blood of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ, who offered Himself in obedience to your will, the Perfect Sacrifice for all mankind.

On the night He was betrayed,

He took bread, and when He had given thanks to you, He broke it and gave it to His disciples and said: “Take this and eat it: This is my Body which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

After supper He took the cup of wine:

and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them and said: “Drink this, all of you:

This is my Blood of the New Covenant, Which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, whenever you drink it, For the remembrance of me.”

One of the following Acclamations shall be said:

ALL

When we eat this Bread and drink this Cup, we proclaim the death of Christ until He comes again.

Christ has died.

Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

or

Christ Jesus is Lord.

He has set us free from the law of sin and death:In His name alone is our salvation.

PRESIDENT

Look with favour on your Church’s offering,

and grant that we who eat and drink these holy gifts may be filled with your Holy Spirit and become one body in Christ, and serve you in unity, constancy and peace.

May He make us a perpetual offering to you and enable us, in communion with blessed Mary and the whole company of heaven, to share in the inheritance of your Saints.

With Him, and in Him, and through Him,

by the power of the Holy Spirit, we worship you, Father Almighty, with all who stand before you in earth and heaven in songs of everlasting praise:

HYMNS AT 9:15 AM

Hymn 554

Lift every voice and sing, till earth and heaven ring, ring with the harmonies of liberty;let our rejoicing rise high as the listening skies; let it resound loud as the rolling sea.Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us; sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us;facing the rising sun of our new day begun, let us march on, till victory is won.

Stony the road we trod, bitter the chastening rod, felt in the days when hope unborn had died;yet, with a steady beat, have not our weary feet come to the place for which our parents sighed? We have come over a way that with tears have been watered; we have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered; out from the gloomy past, till now we stand at last where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.

God of our weary years, God of our silent tears, thou who hast brought us thus far on the way;thou who hast by thy might, led us into the light, keep us for ever in the path, we pray.Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met thee; lest, our hearts drunk with the wine of the world, we forget thee;shadowed beneath thy hand, may we for ever stand, true to our God, true to our native land.

Hymn 308

For the healing of the nations, Lord, we pray with one accord, for a just and equal sharing of the things that earth affords. To a life of love in action help us rise and pledge our word.

Lead us forward into freedom, from despair your world release, that, redeemed from war and hatred, all may come and go in peace.Show us how through care and goodness fear will, die and hope increase.

All that kills abundant living, let it from the earth be banned: pride of status, race or schooling, dogmas that obscure your plan. In our common quest for justice may we hallow life’s brief span.

You, Creator-God, have written your great name on humankind;for our growing in your likeness bring the life of Christ to mind;that by our response and service earth its destiny may find.

Hymn 552

I need thee every hour, most gracious Lord;no tender voice like thine can peace afford.

I need thee, O I need thee! Every hour I need thee;

O bless me now, my Saviour! I come to thee.

I need thee every hour; stay thou near by; temptations lose their power when thou art nigh.

I need thee, O I need thee! Every hour I need thee;O bless me now, my Saviour! I come to thee.

I need thee every hour, in joy or pain;come quickly and abide, or life is vain.

I need thee, O I need thee! Every hour I need thee;O bless me now, my Saviour! I come to thee.

I need thee every hour; teach me thy will, and thy rich promises in me fulfil.

I need thee, O I need thee! Every hour I need thee;O bless me now, my Saviour! I come to thee.

I need thee every hour most Holy OneO make me thine indeed, thou blessed Son.

Hymn 553

You have all our future in your hands, in your hands. We bid you take over all our life, Lord -

our dreams, aspirations, all our best, Jesus Christ. Our all we place in your hands.

In your hands, Lord, we place today, tomorrow; in your hands, Lord, we surrender all.To your hands we commit our joys, our sorrow; in your hands, Lord, we surrender all.

Keep walking beside us every night, every day, and giving us courage for the fray, Lord.We need you to guide us every step of the way; forsake us not, Lord, we pray.

In your hands, Lord, we place today, tomorrow; in your hands, Lord, we surrender all.To your hands we commit our joys, our sorrow; in your hands, Lord, we surrender all.

You place many duties in our hands, in our hands; and shaping our world is our task, Lord.On you we depend, Lord, for the power; this we ask that all make sense in our hands.

In your hands, Lord, we place today, tomorrow; in your hands, Lord, we surrender all.To your hands we commit our joys, our sorrow; in your hands, Lord, we surrender all.

You call us to service in this land, in this land, whose soul is just aching for your touch, Lord;and we too are reaching for your hand, Jesus, Lord redeem us as we take our stand.

In your hands, Lord, we place today, tomorrow; in your hands, Lord, we surrender all.To your hands we commit our joys, our sorrow; in your hands, Lord, we surrender all.

So, Lord, we are trusting everything to your hands, and then we keep praying for our land, Lord,to labour with others for the best, Jesus, Lord. Our all we place in your hands.

In your hands, Lord, we place today, tomorrow;

in your hands, Lord, we surrender all.To your hands we commit our joys, our sorrow; in your hands, Lord, we surrender all.
