All Saints celebrates the baptized people of God, living and dead, who are the body of Christ. As November heralds the dying of the landscape in many northern regions, the readings and liturgy callus to remember all who have died in Christ and whose baptism is complete. At the Lord's table we gather with the faithful of every time and place, trusting that the promises of God will be fulfilled and

that all tears will be wiped away in the new Jerusalem.

moved over the watersand by your Word you created the world,calling forth life in which you took delight.

Through the waters of the flood you delivered Noah and his family.Through the sea you led your people Israelfrom slavery into freedom.

At the river your Son was baptized by John andanointed with the Holy Spirit.By water and your Word you claim usas daughters and sons, making us heirs of yourpromise and servants of all.

We praise you for the gift of water that sustainslife, and above all we praise you for the giftof new life in Jesus Christ.Shower us with your Spirit,and renew our lives

with your forgiveness, grace, and love.

To you be given honor and praisethrough Jesus Christ our Lordin the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and forever.

The FIRST READING Revelation 7:9–17The book of Revelation is written to seven churches in western Asia Minor during a time of great

oppression. Today's reading is a response to the question asked in 6:17: "Who is able to stand?" Thewriter gives the faithful the assurance of God's protection and a vision of victory.9 After this I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count,from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing beforethe throne and before the Lamb, robed in white, with palm branches in theirhands. 10They cried out in a loud voice, saying,

"Salvation belongs to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the

Lamb!"11 And all the angels stood around the throne and around the elders and thefour living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and

worshipedGod, 12singing,

"Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdomand thanksgiving and honor

and power and mightbe to our God forever and ever! Amen."

13Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, "Who are these, robed in white,and where have they come from?" 14I said to him, "Sir, you are the one thatknows." Then he said to me, "These are they who have come out of the greatordeal ;they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the

Lamb. 15For this reason they are before the throne of God,and worship him day and night within his temple,




and the one who is seated on the throne will shelter them.16They will hunger no more, and thirst no more;the sun will not strike them,nor any scorching heat;17for the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd,

and he will guide them to springs of the water of life,and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."

1 Using the thumb, the people may make three small signs of the cross, one on the forehead, one on the lips, and one on the breast whilesilently using the traditional prayer, “May the Good News of Jesus Christ be in my mind, and on my lips, and in my heart. Amen”

The CREED With the whole people of God, let us confess our faith. We believe in one God,

the Father, the Almighty,maker of heaven and earth,of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,the only Son of God,eternally begotten of the Father,God from God, Light from Light,true God from true God,begotten, not made,of one Being with the Father.Through him all things were made.For us and for our salvation

he came down from heaven;

by the power of the Holy Spirithe became incarnate

2 from the virgin Mary, and was

made man.For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;

he suffered death and was buried.On the third day he rose again

in accordance with the Scriptures;

he ascended into heavenand is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son.

With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.He has spoken through the prophets.

portion of the Creed until “For our sake…” because “the Divine Majesty abased Himself and became like us poor bags of worms, and

to thank God for the ineffable mercy and compassion reflected in the incarnation.” (Luther’s Works, Vol. 22, pp. 102, 105)

The BREAKING OF THE BREAD This is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Happy are we whoare called to his supper.Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word and I shall behealed.

The DISTRIBUTION OF THE HOLY SACRAMENT Access to the Lord’s Table is by invitation of the Lord himself. All baptized believers who trust that Christ is presented in the celebration of the Holy Eucharist are invited to come forward and receive Christ in the BlessedSacrament. Communion is distributed by coming up the center aisle at the direction of the usher and returningalong the side aisle. Those who do not wish to receive the Sacrament may come forward with their arms crossed

and receive a blessing. Those who, for any reason, cannot receive the wine may receive the Sacrament under the form of bread alone. In doing so, a communicant still receives the whole Christ.

The POST-COMMUNION BLESSINGThe Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen you and keep you in hisgrace.

The POST-COMMUNION PRAYER Let us pray…Lord, in this sacrament you give us your crucified and risen Son.Bring to the glory of the resurrection our departed brothers and sisters, whoseBaptism is now complete. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.

COMMEMORATIONS FOR THE W EEK

Monday, November 3, 2014Martín de Porres, renewer of society, died 1639

Martín was the son of a Spanish knight and a freed black slave from Panama. As a laybrother in the Order of Preachers (Dominicans), he engaged in many charitable works inLima, Peru. He founded an orphanage, a hospital, and a clinic for cats and dogs.

Friday, November 7 John Christian Frederick Heyer, died 1873; Bartholomaeus Ziegenbalg, died 1719;

Ludwig Nommensen, died 1918; missionaries

Heyer was the first missionary sent out by American Lutherans. After teaching atGettysburg College and Seminary he was assigned to the Andhra region of India. A workeramong the Tamil people on the southeast coast of India, Ziegenbalg was opposed both bylocal Hindus and by Danish authorities who favored a different missionary style. He wasknown for caring about the welfare of the whole person. Nommensen was born in

northern Germany and was sent to Sumatra as a Lutheran missionary. Working among theBatak people, he translated the scriptures into their language, and honored their nativeculture.

HEALING IN GRIEF SUNDAY SCHOOL TIME
