ALL FLARED UPBRINGING BACK THE 70S

IT’S ALWAYS A GOOD DAY TO GET PAID!

NO BROKE DAYS

To say this last few days have been full of tension is putting it mildly. To say one has not learnt plenty about the intrigues of our politically climate is to do Arise TV

a great injustice. Some of us were glued to our telly for over 72 hours straight because of the elections and if l were to give the performance of INEC and the way the elections were handled all over the country a rating, it will in no way be correct to give them a pass mark considering how much time they had to prepare not to mention the mind blowing amount (too many zeroes in the numbers l might add) that they had at their disposal to make the process seamless. The

irregularities with numbers, the lack of card readers, compounded with various violent acts and also lateness of arrival to polling units coupled with

claims of already thumb-printed ballots papers seen on social media leaves a lot to be desired in terms of performance and the results presented. lt was a very

sad reminder of how far we still have to go in terms of getting it right when it comes to a free and fair election. l saw how determined Nigerians were, against all odds, to go out and be counted as playing a part in who we want to rule us. The declared winner has been announced. l just wish everything was done by the book where all the Ts were crossed and Is dotted to ensure it was a fair playing field for all candidates. Until we can get that process right, we will never feel truly fulfilled...depending on what side of the fence you are sitting on. And it should not be so. Whether your preferred candidate wins or loses, in advanced countries where things work properly, the loss is accepted while you lick your wounds in silence. That way, the win will be accepted without rancor. l pray for our country Nigeria and hope that in my lifetime, the time will come when we do get it right. A time that we will we go out to vote and believe beyond any reasonable doubt that the final results are correct and are a reflection of our votes. It is also not a good idea to create enemies because of politics. At best, agree to disagree and leave it at that. The only time to get ALL FLARED UP is only when it comes to fashion and not politics!

Recently, the matriarch of the Osime family, Ma Grace, turned 80. Her children, Ruth, Grace and Omome threw a lavish party for her to mark the special occasion. The Church service was held at Holy Cross Cathedral followed by a fabulous reception at Harbour Point. Friends and family all turned up in their Sunday best to join in the celebration which was full of fun and fanfare.

The celebrant, still spritely for her age, danced the night away full of smiles and radiating happiness for all the love and well wishes expressed to her. The MC of the evening was Efex the comedian while speeches were made by her children and a few relatives and long standing friends. Veentage band was on ground to provide scintillating music which got everyone on their feet and was followed by Bola DG who played a retinue of oldies.

It was an intimate evening shared by all those who hold the celebrant dear to their hearts.

We wish Ma Grace Osime many more happy years to come and look forward to celebrating her 90th God-willing, in the same manner.

The luxury lifestyle market (TLLM) hosted its annual two-day shopping event at Wings Tower last weekend, it was a shopper’s haven for the best local and international luxury brands offering discounted prices. The theme for this year’s event was “Modern Day Africa” - an ode to the rich cultural landscape of the African luxury industry.

TLLM’s founder Abisola Kola-Daisi designed this year’s event to encapsulate the essence of luxury in Africa by showcasing a carefully curated selection of over 30 beauty, fashion and lifestyle brands, displayed against a backdrop of African-themed décor.

On day two, Odio Mimonet displayed a stellar fashion presentation, closing off the event in style.

TLLM is positioning itself to fill the gap in the market for a growing demand for luxury within the continent, empower local luxury brands and challenge negative stereotypes about the potential for a formidable African luxury market.

TLLM was powered by Florence H Luxury and sponsored by Moët & Chandon and Wings Tower

We love teaching you our favorite tips and tricks for how to make getting dressed in the morning just a little bit easier and maybe, even fun. Want to

know what’s not fun? Annoying rules that you’ve heard your entire life about fashion: “Don’t pair this with that.” “Don’t wear this color with that colorWell, it’s 2019, and we think those rules are ridiculous. Having a laundry

list of do’s and don’ts is dated and will get in the way of you showing off your personal style. Here are ten of the biggest rules you should immediately erase

from your memory.

We’ve seen this rule continually being broken by models, bloggers, and street style stars who regularly step out in slim fitting denim overalls and pairing them with sleek staples like blouses and classic pumps.

Overalls can’t ever be chic

Head to toe denim can look very chic. Pair pieces of varying washes together, such as a light denim shirt with dark denim jeans, or a dark denim jacket with a light-wash pair of denim shorts.

Denim on denim is a fashion faux pas

Of course, we don’t want you running around the city wearing nothing but your bra and undies, but finding an understated way to wear lingerie outside of the house, is a street style go-to.

Lingerie Should Stay In Your Bedroom

Why? As fabulous women like Iris Apfel have proven time and time again, piling on the bling can be fabulous and totally idiosyncratic.

Take off one accessory before leaving the house

Actually, mixed prints can look extremely fresh, and elevate your look from ordinary to street-style ready in no time. Street style pros know that anything goes when it comes to mixing prints.

Mixed prints are too busy

As recent trends have proven, the right pair of sneakers can take you way beyond the gym. Between wedge sneakers, slip-on sneakers, and the rise of top bloggers and fashion insiders rocking sporty Nikes, New Balance, and Adidas kicks with everything from sleek skirts to leather pants, it’s clear that when styled with dressier pieces, sneakers can add a modern twist to an outfit that’s not comprised solely of sweats.

Sneakers are only for the gym

There’s this myth that if you’re above a size 6, you should wear flowy, oversized clothes. But truth be told, that tends to make you look bigger. Plus, you lose out on being able to try some of the best trends.

Somewhere along the way, these two shades got a bad reputation, but when paired purposefully, they can actually look quite modern and eye-catching. To break this fashion rule, keep the red true, and add any shade of pink, from pastel to fuchsia.

This is one trick that can make you look like the most effortlessly stylish girl on the street. Try wearing sequin pants with casual staples like a white shirt or a standout dress.

Matching your shoes to your bag can offer a delightfully monochromatic look. But it’s an old-school concept and definitely not a rule that needs to be followed. Mixing patterns, textures, and colors is the fastest way to make your outfit more interesting.

BRINGING BACK THE 70S

FLARED PANTSCURVY

PETITE

We’ve hardly tried to hide that we’re obsessed with ‘70s-inspired style. There’s a reason this decade outdid all the others in terms of its sartorial staying power, and it has a lot to do with bohemian-inflected styles like luxurious suede and neutral earth tones. What does this mean in terms of pants? That, yes, retro flare pants are making a decided comeback, making the ‘70s more relevant than ever. And we’re taking cues from our favourite celebrities when it comes to styling them. For a while there, we were certain the wide-legged pants would never again see the light of day. But

lately we’ve been seeing a handful of celebrities in outfits that have us reconsidering this look. So whether you’re emotionally attached to your skinny jeans or have thought that the flare style never left, prepare to get on board with the retro revival. The key to making the ‘70s style feel current? A high-waisted fit and a great heel. Wearing heels with full-length flare jeans is particularly essential, as the added height will balance out the jeans’ volume. If you’re still feeling flats, opt for a pair of cropped flare instead. Ready to try flares but not sure which ones will look best on you? Trial and error in the dressing room

is always the best method. But, knowing the general fits that flatter your shape’s proportions will save you a ton of time. Below, we’re featuring common shapes and fit tidbits to help spark your imagination when it comes to your next pair.

Yes, you can absolutely wear wide leg pants if you are curvy! The important thing here is to create balance. Your math’s skills will come in handy here ladies! Choose a style that starts to flare right at your hips and goes straight down from there.

Do wear wide leg pants with structured, tailored and cropped jackets to accentuate your hourglass figure.

• Don’t wear wide leg pants with pocket detailing. This will only make your hips appear wider than they actually are.

• Do wear high waisted wide leg pants. This will draw the eye away from your widest part, to your small waist and perfectly shows off your curves.

• Don’t wear low waisted styles. If you have a bit of a tummy (who doesn’t?), this shape just highlights it.

• Do wear fitted tops with shoulder detailing. A fitted top will show off your waist and the shoulder detailing will balance out the bulk of the wide leg pants.

• Don’t wear cropped (or culottes) styles. The best thing about wide leg pants is how they elongate and balance. Culottes will make you look shorter and wider.

Petite women look best in bootcuts because large flares or bell-bottoms

tend to overwhelm smaller frames. If this is your body shape and you still want to rock this trend, take note of these do and don’ts.

• Do tuck your top into your pants. This will define your tiny waist and show off your best features.• Don’t wear big baggy tops. This will leave you looking like you are drowning in fabric.• Do go for striped pants. These will elongate your legs making you appear taller.• Don’t wear wide leg pants with flats. This can make you look shorter.• Do bring out your highest heels. The best part about this is you won’t even need to alter your pants!

TALL AND SLENDER FUN REASONSWomen who have a tall and slender body shape, look fantastic in flares. If you’re tall and lean, wide-legged pants or super bell-bottoms look incredible because your legs are long and can carry the volume. Regardless of this plus, you should also be aware of a few dos and don’ts.

• Do try culottes. With your height, you can definitely pull off this look. Go ultra modern with a great pair of flat forms.

• Don’t wear wide leg pants with baggy tops. This really isn’t flattering for most people.

• Do layer up. Wear wide leg pants with tunic tops and dresses. This look is ultra-chic, and will give your look an instant edge.

• Don’t pair wide leg pants with chunky jackets or tops. This will only

hide your long and lean look.• Do be creative and experiment.

Your height is an advantage with this trend, so go

on and try something different.

From all indications, the flared pants are making a big comeback. And while these billowy bottomed pants have pranced their way on and off of fashion’s in-style radar a few times since their huge popularity in the ‘60s and ‘70s, we still liken them to the unicorns of pants — rare, beautiful creatures, heralding magical moments of fun.

There’s a reason this classic look keeps resurfacing, and it has everything to do with clean, well-defined lines, and a visually appealing shape. We humans love balance, and although our bodies are actually a bit asymmetrical, flares lend us a more symmetrical shape, adding visual weight to our feet to balance out the width of our shoulders.

But the appeal of flared pants goes beyond logic to a more emotional appeal. Flares evoke a sense of playful nostalgia, and from playing dress up in

our parent’s clothes, to actually remembering the various moments in history when flares have been popular, the

resurgence of these magical pant have some of us more than a little giddy with excitement. Here are just a few reasons why it’s worthwhile to embrace fashion’s flashback to flares

biggest 80’s trendto your wardrobe

Daring doesn’t even begin to describe the big, bad trends of the ’80s. Whether you’re testing the waters or taking the plunge,

Miniskirts While Mary Quant popularised

the miniskirt in the 1960s, it was in the ’80s that they re-emerged, in

glamorised versions of the original silhouette, but most notably in the form of the “rah- rah” skirts that took

after cheerleader uniforms. Ever since, there’s barely no season or label that doesn’t feature some iteration. You can be vulgar wearing a long skirt and chic wearing

a miniskirt. It’s all about beauty, culture and personality. A woman today takes care of her

skin and body! Why cover the legs if they are so beautiful?

Neon - Nothing screams 80s like neon clothing. The number one tip on how to rock this trend is to never pair with normal colour tones, as the neon washes them out and it looks mismatched. Can neon be for everybody and everywhere? Well, neon is certainly ageless - if it makes you happy, then do it! And yes, neon is definitely fit for all occasions especially if you want to stand out.

Punk - Few subcultures have had as enduring an impact on fashion as ’80s punk. Recall the pieces that constituted a means of expression then - leather biker jackets, studs and spikes, plaid flannel, rock tees and ripped jeans - and you’ll know they’ve somehow worked their way to your wardrobe. How does one incorporate punk into today’s everyday wear? Embellishments, accessories, makeup but also iconic elements of punk inspired fashion, such as tartan, black, fishnet socks and ripped clothing.

Sequins Where would we be without

sequins? Those little disco balls of life and raucousness that we wear and carry everywhere. They were a significant ele-

ment of the go-all-out aesthetic of the ’80s, personified by the then fashion crowd. Today this trend is still very much alive

and can be worn with almost every piece of clothing

How Can I Dress Laid-Back but Fashion-Forward?Question Hi, I work in the fashion industry where our work wear outfits are not strictly regimented. It is more often than not a casual vibe all through the week but there are times when I see some of my colleagues dressed up to the nines. I love the casual look approach but I’d also love to look like I made an effort. How would you suggest I strike a balance between laid-back but still fashion-forward?Thank you!

Casual Cutie

Answer Dear Casual Cutie,Just because you want to dress casual and laid-back doesn’t mean you have to forgo fashion. All you have to do is invest in some key casual pieces that are also statement-makers. Slouchy pants, easy shorts, eye-catching leggings, rompers, and simple dresses are great for that. Then, just pair these pieces with basics in your wardrobe and standout accessories and you’ll be good to go! Another trick is to make sure to rock heels with your casuals. They add a certain va va voom to your steps and totally switch up your outfit.

Another day, another twinning style moment! While fashionistas have

loads of fashionable clothes and outfit under

the sun to choose from, it’s inevitable

that they’ll from time to time, choose the

same ensemble because of its

fabulousity and they each will channel

their style wearing this ensemble.

One of such outfits is this Rhonkfella collection, the

Drama Queen dress. This frilly number screams Fabulosity and we

absolutely love it! It is so versatile and

fits women of all shapes and sizes. It is also easy to style

and no matter what accessories

you choose to wear with it, the

dress speaks volume. We can categorically

say both ladies look fabulous. Way to go
