INVOCATION Wisdom Overflowing, we are glad to be here today, praying together as a United Church of Christ.Encounter us here at the Chesapeake shoreand immerse us in your grace;Stir up the pool of healing challenge so that we may know how much you love us,and long to empower usto become agents of abundant life in the world you love.We pray in the name of Jesus, who waits at this and every shore to call us into mission.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION How good it is to be together! In this rare and precious moment, Let us together search our hearts—our individual hearts, our community heart and set aside all fear, all burdens, all sin which keeps us from God and one another.

SONG A Future with Hope, verse 1 Mark Miller

Oh God, you call us to seek you in all times and places, and work with courage to prepare the way for your Kin-dom,but our resolve too often fails and we give up too soon.

Holy One, have mercy.

Oh God, you call us to create community with friends and strangersto prepare the way your Kin-dom, but fear too often keeps us sheltered, cut-off, safe.

Christ, have mercy.

Oh God, you call us to be full of joyful confidence to prepare the way for your Kin-dom, but anxious doubt often burdens us and blocks our witness to your good news.Holy One, have mercy.

(a moment of silent prayer)

Forgive us, O God, and lead us in the ways of courage, community and joy.

HOLY COMMUNIONBlessed be the Faithful who are coming in your name!

INVITATIONBeloved in Christ, the Gospel tells us that on the first day of the week Jesus Christ was raised from death and encountered two disciples on the road. They recognized him at table, in the breaking of the bread.

This is the joyful feast of the people of God. All God’s beloved, diverse and beautiful, come from east and west, north and south, and gather about Christ’s table:One table, yet many tables.

SANCTUS reprise

COMMUNION PROCESSION Communion elements are brought to the people

We come in your name, O Holy One, hungry, humble, hopeful.Let us know your presence in community around these tables.

Friends, we invite you to stay seated, but look around and find the bread and cup nearest you.The servers who have brought the communion elements to you may call on you to help break the bread or lift the cup.

May God be with you. And also with you.

Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to our God.

Let us give thanks to our good God. It is right to give God thanks and praise!

O Holy One, You are our lover, our longing, our flowing stream of gladness throughout creation, leading us in your dance of love.

We thank you and praise you for giving us life, and immersing us in the life story of this people who are

blessed by your faithfulness, challenged by your prophets, forgiven by your mercy, and ever surprised by your power to do more, working in us, than we can ask or imagine.

We thank you for Jesus, your Word of life, --Bone of our bone and flesh of our flesh--Whose life, death and resurrection fully reveal

your desire for reconciliation, wholenessin a just world for all.

Jesus showed this loveWhen he gathered at table with his friends in a time of struggle and fear, and took bread, blessed and broke it and gave it to them saying “Take and eat: for this is my body.”(Servers may invite helpers to break and lift up the bread)

And after supper, as Jesus looked forward to your day of joy and power; he took the cup of wine, again gave you thanks and praise and said“Take this, all of you, and drink. This is the cup of the new covenant: my life poured out for you. I will share this with you again in the reign of God.(Servers may invite helpers to lift the cup)

Share this bread and this cup in memory of me.”

Friends, extend your hands in blessing over the bread and cup on your table, and we will invoke the Spirit together in call and response fashion:

Come now, Holy Spirit of God—Come now, Holy Spirit of God—

let these gifts of bread and cup let these gifts of bread and cup

become for us bread of life, cup of blessing.become for us bread of life, cup of blessing.

As we share this meal, transform us,

As we share this meal, transform us,Make us one body in Christ.

Make us one body in Christ.Amen! Amen!

Friends, the tables are ready! If you are seated at one of the tables up front, let the persons closest to the bread and cup start serving. If you are seated in the theatre section, let the servers guide the process. The cups are filled with grape juice; the bread is all gluten-free.Share the gifts of God with the People of God!

Communion bread is free of gluten, dairy, egg, peanuts and tree nuts, but it contains soy protein.
