Praise & Worship
Doxology: “Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow”
The Call to Worship
Leader: I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of the Lord, our feet
shall stand within Thy gates O Jerusalem! (Psalm 122:1)
People: For a day in Thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in
the house of my God than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. (Psalm 84:10)
Leader: Because of the house ofthe Lord our God, I will seek Thy good. (Psalm 122:9)
People: Those that be planted in the house of the Lord, shall flourish in the courts of our
God. (Psalm 92:13)
Leader: Blessed are they that dwell in Thy house. Lord, I have loved Thy habitation, the
place where Thy honor dwelleth. (Psalm 26:8)
People: For the Lord is in His holy temple; let all the earth keep silence before Him.
(Habakkuk 2:20).
Leader: Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in Thy
sight, O Lord my strength and my redeemer. (Psalm 19:14)
Unison: O Sing unto the Lord a new song, for He has done marvelous things. Make a
joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth, sing His praises. (Psalm 98:1, 4)

The Hymn of Praise African American Heritage Hymnal #291
O How I Love Jesus
There is a name I love to hear,
I love to sing its worth;
It sounds like music in my ear,
The sweetest name on earth.
Refrain:
O how I love Jesus,
O how I love Jesus,
O how I love Jesus,
Because he first loved me!
It tells me of a Savior's love,
Who died to set me free;
It tells me of his precious blood,
The sinner's perfect plea.
[Refrain]
It tells me what my Father hath
In store for every day,
And though I tread a darksome path,
Yields sunshine all the way.
[Refrain]
It tells of one whose loving heart
can feel my deepest woe;
who in each sorrow bears a part
that none can bear below.
[Refrain]

Ministry of Music The Male Chorus
Scripture Lesson (Please Stand for the Reading of God’s Words)
Responsive: Isaiah 41:1-10 (New Living Translation) – Don’t Be Afraid
Leader: God says, ―Listen in silence before me, you lands beyond the sea.Bring your
strongest arguments.Come now and speak. The court is ready for your case.
People: ―Who has stirred up this king from the east, rightly calling him to God’s
service?Who gives this man victory over many nationsand permits him to
trample their kingsunderfoot? With his sword, he reduces armies to dust.
With his bow, he scatters themlike chaff before the wind.
Leader: He chases them away and goes on safely, though he is walking over unfamiliar
ground.
People: Who has done such mighty deeds, summoning each new generation from the
beginning of time?It is I the Lord, the First and the Last.I alone am he.‖
Leader: The lands beyond the sea watch in fear.Remote lands tremble and mobilize for
war.
People: The idol makers encourage one another, saying to each other, ―Be strong!‖
The carver encourages the goldsmith, and the molder helps at the anvil.
Good,‖ they say.―It’s coming along fine.‖Carefully they join the parts
together, then fasten the thingin place so it won’t fall over.
Leader: ―But as for you, Israel my servant,Jacob my chosen one, descended from Abraham
my friend, I have called you back from the ends of the earth, saying, ‗You are my
servant.‘For I have chosen youand will not throw you away.
ALL: Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.I will
strengthen you and help you.I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
New Testament
Unison: 2 Timothy 1:6-7 (New King James Version) – Don’t Be Afraid.
Therefore, I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my
hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

The Summary of the Decalogue
LEADER: From all that dwell below the skies…
SUNG:From all that dwell below the skies, Let the Creator‘s praise arise; Let the
Redeemer‘s Name be sung, through every land, by every tongue.
LEADER: Hear what Christ our Savior saith, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all
thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great
commandment. And the second is like unto it: Thou shalt love thy neighbor
as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
SUNG: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the
beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. A~Men

SUMMERTIME GIVING
The season of summer vacation is upon us. Before you head out of town, ensure your generous
giving continues throughout the summer months. The free Givelify donation app is available,
just Tap. Give. Done. Give anywhere, anytime with three taps on your smartphone or
tablet. Mobile giving is a viable benevolent option through a Givelify mobile app on your
mobile devices (phone or tablet). The Givelify mobile giving app is faster than online giving,
and lets supporters make donations right from mobile devices (phone or tablet). Anytime of the
day or night, vacation, holiday, etc. The free Givelify donation app makes giving and tracking
donations easier and more beautiful. However, it‘s NOT for everyone. You may choose to
continue your conventional giving, checks, cash, money order. The choice is still yours!

Scripture of the Day
Overcoming Fear.“When I am afraid, O Lord Almighty, I put my trust in you. I trust in God
and I’m not afraid; I praise him for what he has promised. What can a mere human being do to
me?”Psalms 56:3-4
Quote of the Day
“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is
not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”—Nelson Mandela
Thought of the Week OVERCOMING FEAR WITH FAITH
Courage is having strength in the face of fear. So, to really learn how to have courage, you have to have known fear.
Isaac Stern, the great violinist, observing a nine-year-old playing the violin amazingly well, said, ―You can‘t really
tell how an artist will be until the teen years, for that is when fear comes in. Then and only then can you see if the
person has courage. You can‘t learn courage until you know fear.‖ Fear can paralyze us. Finding the courage to
overcome it is a real key to living life to the fullest.
One day, Jesus‘ disciples were caught at sea in a storm. They were afraid they wouldn‘t make it. Jesus walked out to
them and said, ―Take courage! It is I. Do not be afraid.‖
The key to finding courage in the face of fear comes through faith in Jesus Christ. Fear and faith do not mix –
they‘re like oil and water. When faith kicks in, fear moves out, and when faith disappears, fear moves in like a tidal
wave. The key to finding the courage to overcome fear is faith.
Humor of the Week
Shakey went to a psychiatrist. "Doc," he said, "I've got trouble. Every time I get into bed, I think there's somebody
under it. I get under the bed, I think there's somebody on top of it. Top, under, top, under. "You gotta help me, I'm
going crazy!"
"Just put yourself in my hands for two years," said the shrink. "Come to me three times a week, and I'll cure your
fears."
"How much do you charge?"
"A hundred dollars per visit."
"I'll sleep on it," said Shakey.
Six months later the doctor met Shakey on the street. "Why didn't you ever come to see me again?" asked the
psychiatrist.
"For a hundred buck's a visit? A bartender cured me for ten dollars."
"Is that so! How?"
"He told me to cut the legs off the bed!"

ANNOUNCEMENTS
The beautiful flowers adorning the altar are given in honor of Mr. Raymond Turner's Wedding
Anniversary and Ms. Ellen Ligon's Birthday.
Southern California Lay Organization Shoe Drive The Southern California Conference Lay Organization of the AME Church (SCCLO) is currently conducting
its first shoe drive fundraiser to raise funds for the education and training of its members throughout the
region. SCCLO will earn funds based on the total weight of the pairs of gently worn, used and new shoes
collected, as Funds2Orgs will issue a check for the collected shoes. Those dollars will benefit SCCLO‘s efforts
to train members at churches and increase its community outreach capacity. Anyone can help by donating
gently worn, used and new shoes at regional collection points at designated locations.
All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of small business micro-
enterprise partners. Funds2Orgs works with micro-entrepreneurs in helping them create, maintain and grow
small businesses in developing countries where economic opportunity and jobs are limited. Proceeds from the
sales of the shoes collected in shoe drive fundraisers are used to feed, clothe and house their families. One
budding entrepreneur in Haiti even earned enough to send to her son to law school.
We now have the opportunity to share our gift of shoes to the world community. The SCCLO has embarked on
a Conference-Wide program of collecting gently used or new shoes. The shoes will be distributed around the
world to Micro-Business, operated by persons or families trying to feed themselves or educate their children.
We are happy to see that several of the countries served by the sponsors, Funds2 Organizations, our partners in
this endeavor are on the Continent of Africa, Haiti and the Caribbean.
We need your help. We are asking everyone to bring your new or slightly worn shoes and deposit them
within the designated container located in the fellowship hall by Wednesday, August 31, 2018. The shoes
you donate are not just shoes, they give a chance at a livelihood that someonemay not have had before. The
gently worn, used and new shoes you collectshould be in good condition meaning that the soles are intact, they
have laces (ifnecessary), there are no holes, they are dry and clean, and that they still have life leftin them. If
you wouldn‘t give them to a friend, then they are not worthy to submit withyour collection. We also ask that
you communicate with everyone you know to solicit shoes; other churches, civic and community
organizations, sororities, fraternities, etc.
