SUNBELT PUBLICATIONS has over 30 years of experience in the publishing business. The goal for all of our programs

is to contribute to the body of knowledge on the topics of natural science, outdoor adventure, regional histories, and stories that celebrate the land and its people. Sunbelt books encourage discovery and conservation of the natural, historical, and cultural heritage of unique regions including California, the desert southwest, and Baja California.

PublishingFor works of outstanding merit that advance our mission, we develop quality publications. Our Publishing Program takes

projects through development, editing, layout, production, sales, and marketing. We have won numerous awards for individual publications as well as for overall contributions to the trade and region.

DistributionFor titles published by similarly talented publishers that fall within our niche, we offer exclusive distribution that broadly expands markets for most small publishers. By providing access to specialized book trade channels, including sources like Ingram, Baker and Taylor, and Barnes and Noble, as well as to a broad spectrum of loyal retailers including museum shops, specialty stores, and non-profit organizations, Sunbelt’s Distribution Program expands sales coverage and simplifies fullfilment.

WholesaleIn order to meet and exceed the demands of our many specialty retail customers, we cater to stock preferences by carrying a selection of favorite titles from various publishing houses including Wilderness Press, Globe Pequot, Tom Harrison Maps, and many others. Visit the “Specialty Catalog” page of our website for information on these titles.

Custom PublishingThrough Sunbelt’s Custom Publishing Program, clients receive face-to-face service that provides their work with the quality editing, layout, and production standards that we ensure for our own publications, free from the confines of editorial board objectives. If the subject of a custom publishing project falls within our niche, it may also be eligible for our Distribution Program. See page 11 for details.

DIANA LINDSAY | 3

DIANA LINDSAY is the author, co-author, or editor of many books that delve into the cultural and

natural history of San Diego County. Her master’s thesis was published by Copley Books in 1973 as Our Historic Desert. Since then, she’s developed award-winning books that include Anza-Borrego Desert Region, Anza-Borrego A to Z, Marshal South and the Ghost Mountain Chronicles, and Ricardo Breceda: Accidental Artist. She was the managing editor of Coast to Cactus: The Canyoneer Trail Guide to San Diego Outdoors written by the San Diego Natural History Museum Canyoneers and is also the founder and president of Sunbelt Publications.

Coast to Cactus is more than a hiking guide to San Diego County. It is a trail guide designed to teach appreciation and understanding of the region, considered one of 35

biodiversity hotspots in the world. It is like having a trail naturalist—a

“Virtual Canyoneer”—with you who will introduce habitats and species, as well as cultural and geographical features, found on each exploration.

4 | NICHOLAS CLAPP

Award-winning documentary filmmaker and author Nicholas Clapp has studied, filmed, and written about the deserts of the

world. As an author, prior publications include The Road to Ubar: Finding the Atlantis of the Sands, Sheba: Through the Desert in Search of the Legendary Queen, and Who Killed Chester Pray? Now, with the detailed eye of a cinematographer, he has compiled three books chronicling the rise and fall of rowdy mining towns of the desert West and another on the ancient and mysterious lives of southwest desert shamans.

Called “handsome, compellingly written, and superbly illustrated volumes that both entertain and inform,” by Nevada In the West, Clapp’s series on mining town brings to life the the lusterous history and nostolgic present of some of the most important gold and silver mines in the American West.

TOM HARRISON MAPSMap design is more than just putting a bunch of lines and symbols on a piece of paper. It involves decisions on what to leave off the map, what kind of typeface to use, what size lines and symbols to use. Tom Harrison Maps recognizes that maps are difficult to read for most people, and we design them so you don’t have to know how to read a map, or even use a compass. They research each area, hike trails with a measuring wheel when needed,

obtain aerial photography, coordinate with Park Service and Forest Service administrators, digitize government maps, and produce a product that is unique in the mapping industry—a full-color, shaded-relief, easy-to-use topographic map.*

The Waterford Press Pocket Naturalist Series covers a range of subjects, including wildlife, birds, science, and natural history and are laminated for durability. Sunbelt carries a wide selection of Pocket Naturalist southwest desert guides.
