Brighter Futures Grants

5TIPSTOP1. Choose your category carefully You can only apply for one Grant each round so read the criteria and enter the category that gives you the best chance of success in Australia or New Zealand.

2. Include a brief budget Most successful applications include a budget detailing the estimated or quoted cost for each expense. For example, an application for a ‘learn yoga’ program at a youth drop-in centre would require a budget with detail such as: weekly teacher fee ($40 per hour x 1.5 hours x 12 weeks), yoga mats ($30 each x 20), yoga blocks ($5 each x 20). Total Grant requested = $1,320. Please note: you shouldn’t apply for the maximum amount unless you need it. Check the Grants Guidelines for budget exclusions e.g. phone or internet services.

3. Get a quote We highly recommend getting a quote for the item or service from the preferred supplier before submitting. Speak to your recipient to be clear about their funding needs. Keep in mind that Grants aren’t deposited into individuals’ personal bank accounts. You can attach quotes to your application along with photos or videos.

4. Be compelling A. Explain what the need is. E.g. Lucy is a teenage girl with severe mobility challenges so is restricted to spending much of her time at home.B. Be clear about what the grant will be spent on. E.g. a stand-up wheelchairC. What impact will it have on the recipient/s lives? E.g. It will enable Lucy to go out to spend time with friends which will greatly improve her quality of life and mental wellbeing. It will also be a great help for Lucy’s parents who are her primary caregivers.D. How long will the Grant provide a benefit? E.g. the wheelchair will grow with Lucy as she matures into an adult and will have a long-term impact on her physical and mental heath.
