Create Floppy Diskette on a Local Computer

Note – To extract the .zip file in this procedure, Sun recommends that you use a third-party extractor, such as Winzip.

To create the floppy diskette with the Broadcom driver:

1. On your local computer, create a directory called C:\nsv.

2. Download the ReadMe and the file nsv-win2003_V2_0_0_6.zip to the C:\nsv directory.

The .zip file contains a large hierarchy of directories and files.

3. Unzip the file c:\nsv\nsv-win2003_V2_0_0_6.zip.

4. Copy all the files in the following Broadcom driver directory onto a floppy diskette:

C:\nsv\sw_images\platform\32bit\windows2003\broadcom\7.86\

5. Label this diskette as “Windows Server 2003 Broadcom driver”.

Install Windows Server 2003 OS on Server

Note – The Sun Fire V20z server ships with a CD-ROM drive; the Sun Fire V40z server ships with a DVD-ROM drive. For the sake of brevity, this procedure will refer only to a “CD-ROM” drive.

To install the Windows Server 2003 OS:

1. Power on the server.

Note – If the server is already powered on, power it off, then on.

2. Optional Step: To speed the installation process, enable the QuickBoot mode and disable Console Redirection in the BIOS on the server.

■ You will need to reboot the server several times during the OS installation. To save some time, you can enable the QuickBoot mode in the BIOS on the server. QuickBoot mode allows the server to skip the memory test during the bootup process.

■ The servers have Console Redirection enabled at “9600 baud” by default. The Windows Setup program automatically detects the Console Redirection and adapts the Keyboard and Video input/output to match the Console Redirection speed. As a consequence, the installation process becomes drastically slower. This affects only the installation process. We recommend disabling Console Redirection during the installation of the Windows OS.

To modify the BIOS settings:

a. During bootup, press F2 to launch the BIOS setup utility.

b. After the "PhoenixBIOS Setup Utility" loads, press the Right Arrow key to move to the "Advanced" screen.

c. Press the Down Arrow key until you highlight “QuickBoot Mode”.

d. Press Enter and then the Down Arrow key to select “Enabled”.

e. Press Enter.

f. Press the Down Arrow key until you highlight “Console Redirection”.

g. Press Enter.

A menu opens with the option “COM Port Address” set to “On-board COM A”.

Chapter 2 Drivers for the Windows Server 2003 (32-bit) Operating System 5

Page 12: Sun Fire V20z and Sun Fire V40z Servers—Windows Driver ... · Install Windows 2000 Server OS and LSI Device Driver on Server 17 Install Broadcom Device Driver on Server 20 Install

h. Press Enter.

i. Press the Up Arrow key to select "Disabled" and press Enter.

j. Press F10 to save and exit.

The boot process will now be much faster.

Note – You can disable QuickBoot mode and re-enable Console Redirection after the OS installation completes.

3. Insert the Windows Server 2003 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.

After the BIOS memory test completes, if the system asks you to press any key to boot the server from the CD-ROM drive, do so.

Note – This prompt remains on screen for a very short time only, usually about 15 seconds. Ensure that you are watching the boot screens for this prompt.

4. At the prompt, press any key to boot the server from the CD-ROM drive.

5. After the server boots from the CD-ROM, follow the onscreen instructions to install the Windows Server 2003 (32-bit) OS.

Note – If you already have an OS installed on your server (for example, a pre-installed version of the Solaris™ 10 OS), when the screen relating to partitions appears, choose the option to delete all partitions.

After the OS installation completes, Setup reboots the server automatically. The server now boots up from the hard disk drive (HDD).

6. After the login screen appears, log in with the Administrator password that you entered in the Setup Wizard.

CHAPTER 3

Drivers for the Windows 2000 Server Operating System

Overview This chapter lists the steps required to install the device drivers for Windows 2000 Server or Windows 2000 Advanced Server OS onto a Sun Fire™ V20z or Sun Fire V40z server.

Note – This chapter shows only the installation screens required to install the device drivers during Windows 2000 installation.

Briefly, you will:

■ Download the file nsv-win2000_V2_2_0_6.zip containing the device drivers.

■ Copy the drivers to two separate floppy diskettes.

■ Install the Windows 2000 Server OS on the server, using the floppy diskette containing the drivers.

Download LocationsA .zip file containing the Windows device drivers is available at:

■ http://www.sun.com/servers/entry/v20z/downloads.html■ http://www.sun.com/servers/entry/v40z/downloads.html

The file name is: nsv-win2003_V2_2_0_6.zip

Create Floppy Diskettes on a Local Computer

Note – You will need two floppy diskettes for this procedure.

Note – To extract the .zip file in this procedure, Sun recommends that you use a third-party extractor, such as WinZip.

To create the floppy diskettes with the drivers:

1. On your local computer, create a directory called C:\nsv.

2. Download the ReadMe and the file nsv-win2000_V2_2_0_6.zip to the C:\nsv directory.

The .zip file contains a large hierarchy of directories and files.

3. Unzip the file c:\nsv\nsv-win2000_V2_2_0_6.zip.

4. Copy all the files in the following LSI driver directory onto a floppy diskette:

C:\nsv\sw_images\platform\32bit\windows2000\lsi\1.10.02\

5. Label this diskette as “Windows 2000 Server LSI driver”.

6. Copy all the files in the following Broadcom driver directory onto a floppy diskette:

C:\nsv\sw_images\platform\32bit\windows2000\broadcom\7.86\

7. Label this diskette as “Windows 2000 Server Broadcom driver”.

Install Windows 2000 Server OS and LSI Device Driver on Server

Note – The Sun Fire V20z server ships with a CD-ROM drive; the Sun Fire V40z server ships with a DVD-ROM drive. For the sake of brevity, this procedure will refer only to a “CD-ROM” drive.

To install the Windows 2000 Server OS and the LSI device driver:

1. Power on the server.

Note – If the server is already powered on, power it off.

To modify the BIOS settings:

a. During bootup, press F2 to launch the BIOS setup utility.

b. After the "PhoenixBIOS Setup Utility" loads, press the Right Arrow key to move into the "Advanced" screen.

The boot process will now be much faster. You can disable QuickBoot mode and re-enable Console Redirection after the OS installation completes.

3. Insert the Windows 2000 Server CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.

After the BIOS memory test completes, if the system asks you to press any key to boot the server from the CD-ROM drive, do so now.

Note – This prompt remains on screen for a very short time only, usually about 15 seconds. Ensure that you are watching the boot screens for this prompt.

4. At the prompt, press any key to boot the server from the CD-ROM drive.

5. After the server boots from the CD-ROM, a blue Setup screen appears.

6. In order to load additional device drivers, press F6 when the message below appears onscreen:
