Appalachia Corner 2017 We are now accepting donations for Appalachia 2017. The trip is different this year. We are collaborating with the Center for Faithjustice to work with Habitat for Humanity in West Virginia. Our students will join students from other parishes for a greater sense of church in service to the poor. While we won't be directly purchasing our materials, paying for housing, rental vehicles and the like, the cost for our students has more than doubled to pay for these items. Over the past few years our students paid $350.00 to attend Appalachia. This year the cost through CFJ is $750.00. That cost is far beyond the breaking point for our families, so we plan to reduce that cost to $350.00 per student with your donations.

There is another component to this where I need your help. As you know my position is no longer full time at the parish. Our students are experiencing some fear with this Appalachia transition. I want to prove to them that change is good, and that nobody is more generous than Christ. Your donations will enable us to get this trip, the first of a new era, off the ground. I am excited for the day where these pioneers come back with amazing stories and encouragement for the next generation of students to say yes to this trip. Please consider helping our students be the hands of Christ for the poor in America, and be fundamentally changed in the process.

As always, checks can be made out to St. John Vianney Youth Ministry, and sent care of John Cook to St. John Vianney Church at 420 Inman Avenue in Colonia NJ. 07067. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of the donations you have made in the past, it is because of you that we have had such long term success in this ministry. God Bless.

Society of St. Vincent de Paul

“The stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.” 1 PETER 2:7 Everyone is given unique gifts. Many people are able to recognize their talents and abilities, but there are many people

who are unsure of their gifts. This may make them feel worthless. If you know someone who is struggling for a direction

in life, give them a little encouragement. Help them discern how they might use their skills. No gift is too small or

insignificant.
