“You have chosen the road less travelled by, to work with those who need your services rather than opting for jobs, which would fetch you rewards, but I must warn you that you will face disillusionment and opposition at every step. I urge you to face every day with courage, patience and humility. If you persevere, you will make a difference to the rural masses and it is this difference upon which the future of our nation rests.”

IRMA has been the bastion for top-quality rural management education for 40 years. The legacy of its founder Dr. Verghese Kurien lives on in the ethos and values that the Institute stands by proudly.
The tenets of academic excellence that the Institute has pursued for nearly four decades have resulted in a vibrant alumni base that IRMA cherishes. Illustrious IRMA alumni have made an impact in different sectors across the world.
The flagship Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Management (PGDRM) offered by IRMA is a unique management programme owing to the way it integrates classroom terms with outdoor segments that augment and enrich the knowledge of the students of the programme.
Students undergo an Induction Fieldwork Segment (IFS) in villages across Gujarat before the start of the first term. In the first classroom term, they are introduced to foundation courses like Microeconomics, Financial Accounting, Managerial Analysis & Communication, Business Statistics & Analytics, among others. The term is followed by the Village Fieldwork Segment (VFS) that introduces the students to the ground realities of rural life throughout its duration of two months. Courses like Financial Management, Marketing Management, Written & Oral Communication and Cost & Management Accounting further contribute to the knowledge base of the students throughout Classroom Terms II and III.
It gives me immense pleasure to invite you to be a part of our journey towards sustainable and equitable development of society. It would be a privilege to have our 39th batch of PGDRM students engage with your organization during their Summer Internship Segment (SIS).
Welcome to IRMA.Prof. Hitesh V. Bhatt

VILLAGE FIELDWORK SEGMENT (October 11, 2018 – November 28, 2018)
The Village Fieldwork Segment is one of the main components of the flagship academic activity of IRMA. Apart from providing students first-hand experience of spending seven weeks in the villages to understand rural life and society, the VFS also involves them in an action-oriented task at grassroots level with the host organizations. The Village Development Study is designed to give students a deeper understanding of the broad themes important for rural development. Extensive surveys undertaken at village and household level by the students are further analysed by them to be utilized by government agencies and institutions.

About IRMAThe Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) is a pioneering academic institution in rural management, education, and research. IRMA was established in 1979 at Anand, Gujarat by the Father of the White Revolution, Dr. Verghese Kurien. He started this institute with the belief that the key to effective rural development lay in professional management. IRMA’s unique strength of integrating development with management sets it apart from most other management schools. Today, IRMA is at the forefront of professionalizing the development of India’s rural sector and is known for its excellence in teaching and research.
Apart from regular Training and Management Development Programmes, IRMA offers Postgraduate Diploma in Rural Management (PGDRM), One Year Executive Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Management [PGDMX (R)] and a Doctoral-level Fellow Programme in Rural Management (FPRM).
The MissionThe mission of IRMA is to promote sustainable, ecologically-friendly, and equitable socio-economic development of rural people through professional management
About PGDRMIRMA’s flagship programme, Postgraduate Diploma in Rural Management (PGDRM), equips young men and women with both development perspectives and business acumen. The curriculum of IRMA’s programme in rural management includes six classroom terms with courses in different domains like Agribusiness Management, Marketing, Finance, Operations, Rural Development, among others. Besides this, the course offers advanced electives such as Strategic Commodity Sourcing, Agri-input Marketing, and Digital Marketing. The interactive classroom sessions act as cultivating grounds for ideas and initiatives that add to the students’ overall development as management professionals.
IRMA believes more in action and, therefore, the programme is designed with an emphasis on experiential learning through two internship segments, which provide four months of on-field learning. The Village Fieldwork Segment (VFS) and Summer Internship Segment (SIS) allow the students to learn and work in both complex rural scenarios as well as corporate organizations with their different sets of challenges.
5
ACTIVITIES AND EVENTSPRM students, apart from their routine classroom sessions, also engage in various
student-run club activities in the domains of Marketing, Finance, Developmental
and Public Policy, and Social Entrepreneurship, among others. These clubs also
enable the students to enhance their leadership skills while serving as platforms for
students to interact with alumni and professionals in their fields of interest.
6 Institute of Rural Management Anand
SUMMER INTERNSHIP SEGMENT (SIS)SIS is a nine-week long internship programme scheduled during the months of June through August after the completion of Term-III of the PGDRM programme. The SIS aims to provide students with an opportunity of working closely with experienced managers in an organizational setting as well as with grassroots’ organizations. Students develop practical skills and gain a realistic idea of the managerial functions of rural organizations and development interventions. The SIS also offers scope for application and appreciation of theories and tools and techniques learned in the classroom as well as Village Fieldwork Segments. Hence, SIS acts as a prelude to what the students are likely to encounter in their careers as rural managers.
This year, 235 students of the 39th batch shall undertake the SIS beginning from May 30, 2019.

Pre Internship 1. Interested organizations, on receiving the
participation form (PF) along with the SIS brochure, are requested to forward their project proposals to IRMA. The PF must be complete in all details, specifically with respect to:
a. Description of the project and the role of students
b. Clearly defined outcomes/deliverables c. Project location(s) during the SIS period d. Allowances/stipend payable
2. The proposals are then reviewed for their importance, learning opportunities available for the students, conformance with the SIS objectives, and feasibility.
3. IRMA encourages its students to choose organizations from a wide pool in order to ensure an even spread of projects and organizations. Students exercise their choices and select projects through a well-defined procedure.
4. Organizations are encouraged to conduct Campus / Telephonic / Skype interviews to determine the suitability of candidates.
5. Once the organizations conclude the selection process, a faculty guide from IRMA is allotted to each project.
6. We accept requests for maximum 6 interns per project. However, there can be multiple projects from an organization.
During Internship1. The students will require assistance to adapt to the
place of internship and know the host organizations’ processes. We recommend an induction programme for the students in order to achieve the project objectives.
2. It is expected that the host organization will not make substantial changes to the submitted project proposal or change the location of the project. The organization will also not assign any new project. The organization must not provide any additional work to students.
3. A senior functionary in the organization, who can effectively play the role of a mentor, should be assigned as Reporting Officer for the students. Students shall rely on the Reporting Officer for
guidance while keeping the faculty guide informed about the progress. Regular communication and consultation between the students, Reporting Officer, and faculty guide is recommended during the internship.
4. It should be ensured that the students complete the project within the stipulated timeframe. The design of the post graduate program at IRMA does not offer scope to extend or reduce the time allotted for the SIS.
5. Students are not entitled to leave during the internship period, except on statutory holidays. Any leave other than these availed should be reported immediately to the SIS Office ([email protected]) at IRMA by the Reporting Officer.
6. Host organizations are encouraged to make Pre Placement Offers (PPOs) to the students at the end of the internship, acceptance of which will be formally communicated to the organizations prior to Final Placements 2020.
7. Allowances/reimbursement – During the internship period, the host organization is expected to reimburse the following expenses:
a. Travel expenses (as promised in the participation form) from the home/IRMA of the students to the organization location and back to home / IRMA
b. Boarding and lodging allowances c. All related expenses for intercity transport
including reporting location to field as well as transport among various locations on field
d. All incidental expenses related to the project such as survey expenses and local conveyance.
e. Costs incurred on availing services such as photocopying and printing while preparing the SIS report
The students should be advised clearly about the rules of the organization, permissible expenses, and procedures involved while settling claims. All accounts/reimbursements should be settled before the students return to the campus. The organization must not reduce or hold back any allowances/reimbursement/stipend that was promised in the SIS participation form.
