Do I need to take an English TestThe language of instruction of our summer school is Eng-lish Therefore it is very important that participants speak and understand English on a high level Thus a proof of English proficiency (minimum Level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languag-es - CEFR) needs to be sent with the application If you are in any doubt about your English language proficiency please contact us before applying

When do I pay the feesUpon acceptance to the summer program please transfer the full amount as indicated in the invoice (that you will receive by e-mail) after the application deadline (May 15th 2018) The amount has to be paid within 14 days after the receipt of the invoice at the latest by 30th May 2018 Your registration will only be valid upon receipt of payment All bank fees have to be paid by the applicant

How can I cancel my participationYou have the right to cancel your participation at no charge within a 14 day period commencing the day of re-ceiving the confirmation After this period your registration becomes binding and fees have to be paid upon receipt of the invoice after the application deadline For cancelations after the payment deadline on 15th May 2018 please note the following conditions bull Cancelation until June 1st 2018 50 refund of the feebull Cancelation after June 1st 2018 no fees are refundable

Cancelation caused by unforeseeable circumstances of the applicant will be subject to individual examination All bank fees have to be paid by the applicant

Terms amp Conditionsbull Participants need to be at least 18 years of age and

need to be enrolled as a student at a university for the entire duration of the summer school

bull Hochschule Fresenius University of Applied Sciences reserves the right to cancel the summer program due to unforeseeable circumstances or if there are less than 10 participants by 15th May 2018 In case of cancelation the affected participants will be notified (at the latest four weeks prior to the start of the program) and will receive a full refund of all fees paid up until that point Hoch-schule Fresenius University of Applied Sciences will not compensate for any further costs which have not been invoiced by Hochschule Fresenius University of Applied Sciences such as flight tickets visa accommodation etc

bull Cancelation of lectures or other parts of our summer school program as a result of illness unforeseeable events or developments may occur In such a case par-ticipants are not entitled to have such lectures or other parts taken place or carried out

bull A change of teaching staff and changes in the course content do not entitle the participant to a resignation from the contract or to a reduction of the course fees

bull Hochschule Fresenius is not liable for any accidents occurring while traveling to and from Berlin and Munich The liability of Hochschule Fresenius University of Applied Sciences for any damage occurring during the program (including excursions social activities etc) is limited to the extent legally possible

bull The place of jurisdiction is Germany thus German law applies

bull For the official program of our summer school the atten-dance is compulsory Only with an attendance of at least 80 we can award credit points (find more information on credit points in this document)

bull In the interest of all respectful and orderly conduct is generally expected from everybody Severe infringement of such conduct may lead to exclusion from the summer program Students are expected to be on time for classes

For the successful participation in our summer school we award 5 ECTS Students are advised to check accredita-tion with their home institution in advance The certificate of attendance and grades will be sent to your home address

Will there be exams and will I receive gradesIn order to receive a grade (and thus receive credits) participants need to pass exam(s) (presentation assignment) Grades will be based on participation and regular attendance in class and class excursions and on the examinations If students attend less than 80 of the official program (without cause) they will not receive grades credits nor a certificate of attendance Students are expected to be on time for classes

What happens if I am illIn case of absence from class due to illness you will have to provide a certificate from a doctor We will provide you with a list of doctors who speak English on the first day of class All participants receive a health accident and personal liability insurance (mandatory) for the duration of their pro-gram Usually students have to pay first for treatment and get reimbursed by the insurance later

Are there scholarships availableWe are very sorry to say that we do not award scholar-ships Please ask the International Office of your home university for further advice

When and how do I obtain reading material for the summer programAll material needed will be handed out during classes No advance reading is necessary

General InformationDo I need a visaPlease contact a German consulate in your home country about visa requirements as early as possible (at least 8 weeks prior to the trip) Students from certain countries may enter Germany with a passport only and remain for up to three months without a visa If your home country does not have such an agreement with Germany you must procure a tourist visa which covers the period of the Summer School you should apply for such a visa at the German embassy or consulate in your home country It is also recommended to bring along a document (ie from your parents or funding agency) that certifies that you can cover the costs eg of living expenses Sometimes an embassy wants to see the insurance package In this case please contact us as early as possible so we can send it to you

If you plan to travel beforeduringafter the International Summer School to other countries please make sure to apply for a multiple entry visa for Germany

Do I need insurancesEach participant will automatically be insured with a travel health accident and personal liability insurance (mandato-ry) Please be aware however that the insurance package only covers the official period of the Summer School program

Thus you are insured from August 5th ndash 24th 2018 This also corresponds with the general move-in and move-out dates The insurance package covers your stay in Germa-ny and in any other EU-country as well as Switzerland and Liechtenstein

If you plan to arrive earlier or plan to stay on after the course you need to buy further insurance individually More information on the mandatory insurance package is available in the pre-departure info package and upon arrival

Please notice Hochschule Fresenius University of Applied Sciences is not liable for any medical expenses or acci-dents All students will receive a list of English speaking general practitioners as well as a list of general emergency numbers upon arrival

When and where do I need to arrive in BerlinThe official arrival day for participants is Sunday August 5th 2018 As Berlin has a very good public transportation system you should easily find your way to your accommo-dation Berlin has two big airports Berlin-Tegel Airport (TXL) and Berlin-Schoumlnefeld (SXF)

Berlin also has a central bus station (ZOB) and a central train station (Berlin Hauptbahnhof) For directions please see the section on accommodation

The program will end in Munich on Friday evening August 24th 2018

To support you we have reserved appropriate off-campus accommodation at student hostels in Berlin and Munich for the duration of the program Students can choose between staying in a 2 or 4-bed-dorm or a single room (limited availability) Both types of rooms include breakfast Please let us know in your application if you would like to stay in one of these reserved rooms or if you will arrange for your own accommodation Rooms have been reserved for the following datesbull Move-in date Sunday August 5thbull Move-out date Saturday August 24th

Do I have access to the libraryAs a registered Summer School student you will be able to use the universityrsquos library Unfortunately your status will not allow you to take out any books for use outside the reading rooms during your stay in cities of Berlin and Mu-nich Anyway our library is rather small and most sources can be accessed online

Is there computerinternet access Can I bring my laptopYou will have free access to the PC terminals in the university and free Internet access Hochschule Fresenius University of Applied Sciences does not offer EDUROAM internet access

Given the limited hours and terminals though it does make sense to bring your personal laptop Please be aware that you will need a European plug-in adapter and that the voltage might differ from country to country (Electricity in Germany is 220 Volts) In the main building you will have access to Wireless LAN (WLAN) Berlin has plenty of Internet cafeacutes all over the city There is also a Wi-Fi possibility at most of the accommodations

Can I use public transport in Berlin and MunichTickets for the center of Berlin and Munich are included in the course fee Tickets will be handed out to you on the first Monday of the program

For the successful participation in our summer school we award 5 ECTS Students are advised to check accredita-tion with their home institution in advance The certificate of attendance and grades will be sent to your home address

Will there be exams and will I receive gradesIn order to receive a grade (and thus receive credits) participants need to pass exam(s) (presentation assignment) Grades will be based on participation and regular attendance in class and class excursions and on the examinations If students attend less than 80 of the official program (without cause) they will not receive grades credits nor a certificate of attendance Students are expected to be on time for classes

Is attendance compulsoryYes attendance is compulsory for the entire official pro-gram Absence is only excused in cases of illness or emer-gency Students with less than 80 attendance will not receive credits nor a certificate of attendance Students are expected to be present on the first day of class

What happens if I am illIn case of absence from class due to illness you will have to provide a certificate from a doctor We will provide you with a list of doctors who speak English on the first day of class All participants receive a health accident and personal liability insurance (mandatory) for the duration of their pro-gram Usually students have to pay first for treatment and get reimbursed by the insurance later

Are there scholarships availableWe are very sorry to say that we do not award scholar-ships Please ask the International Office of your home university for further advice

When and how do I obtain reading material for the summer programAll material needed will be handed out during classes No advance reading is necessary

General InformationDo I need a visaPlease contact a German consulate in your home country about visa requirements as early as possible (at least 8 weeks prior to the trip) Students from certain countries may enter Germany with a passport only and remain for up to three months without a visa If your home country does not have such an agreement with Germany you must procure a tourist visa which covers the period of the Summer School you should apply for such a visa at the German embassy or consulate in your home country It is also recommended to bring along a document (ie from your parents or funding agency) that certifies that you can cover the costs eg of living expenses Sometimes an embassy wants to see the insurance package In this case please contact us as early as possible so we can send it to you

Thus you are insured from August 5th ndash 24th 2018 This also corresponds with the general move-in and move-out dates The insurance package covers your stay in Germa-ny and in any other EU-country as well as Switzerland and Liechtenstein

If you plan to arrive earlier or plan to stay on after the course you need to buy further insurance individually More information on the mandatory insurance package is available in the pre-departure info package and upon arrival

When and where do I need to arrive in BerlinThe official arrival day for participants is Sunday August 5th 2018 As Berlin has a very good public transportation system you should easily find your way to your accommo-dation Berlin has two big airports Berlin-Tegel Airport (TXL) and Berlin-Schoumlnefeld (SXF)

Berlin also has a central bus station (ZOB) and a central train station (Berlin Hauptbahnhof) For directions please see the section on accommodation
