Summer Program Application

=Application ChecklistFor acceptance into the program, the following supplementary items must accompany a completed application form. These items can either be mailed with the application form as a single packet, or e-mailed separately to summerprograms@hillsdale.edu:

☐ ESSAY QUESTION: In 100–250 words, describe yourself and tell us what you hope to gain by attending the Liberty & Learning Youth Conference on the Second Amendment and the U.S. Constitution. Please use a separate sheet of paper 8.5" x 11".

☐ PERSONAL LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION: The letter should be written by an individual of no relation. If the letter is e-mailed, please include “Letter of Recommendation for (Applicant’s Name)” in the subject line.

☐ OFFICIAL HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT(S)

☐ TEST SCORES: A copy of your ACT, SAT, PSAT, or PLAN score is required. If you have not taken one of these tests, please include a recent written sample of your academic work. We request that your work be of at least two pages but no more than five. Please send us only an 8.5" x 11" photocopy of the original work along with your teacher’s grades and remarks.

EligibilityHillsdale College welcomes applications for participation from academically talented high school students ages 15-18 with all levels of firearms experience. Time at the firing range will be spent with students of a similar skill level so all may benefit from tailored instruction with experienced coaches. Applications are encouraged no later than April 1, but will be reviewed until the program has reached capacity. Spots are filled as deposits are received.

After ApplyingOnce we receive and review your completed application materials, a letter will generally be sent within three weeks regarding acceptance. Additional information will be provided at that time, and a non-refundable $200 program fee will be required to secure your place in the program. The program fee covers transfers from Detroit Metropolitan Airport (if necessary), three daily meals, residence hall lodging, course instruction and materials, and course activities. An assortment of College firearms will be made available for all events. The use of personal firearms requires the prior authorization of Range Master Bartley Spieth, bspieth@hillsdale.edu.
